  1. "they dont have any problem blowing by you at full speed 50yds away. arrgghh." You see Mark, they are allowed to do that 'cause they are REAL fishermen. Wish I had a glitter boat so I could be a real fisherman too.
  2. Small jigs with power minnows in tight to shore all over the place to the east of Rochester. You have to cull through until you find schools of larger fish, but they are there in abundance. Makes a nice hour or two trip and you can usually come home with a nice fish fry. The power minnows get them and help cut down on the number of gobies. Use anything like live bait and you'll just be spending all day catching gobies. Good Luck. They're out there! Grady
  3. OK, Mark your log, ready the boat and the gear. You fish enough to take something away from any time you spend on the water. Nice thing is, while lots of other guys will be just getting their seasons started, you will be in position and ready to hammer them. Boat ran good - check Tackle all ready and proven - check Electronics all in order - check All you need now is fish. That will come soon enough. Thank God you're not the guy getting towed! Best of Luck, Grady
  4. One of my brothers is notorious for going overboard just about every year up on the river. If not him, then at least one of his rods. Last year, I took an old Zebco rod, glued styrofoam packing peanuts all over it and presented it to him at the campfire. Can't fish with it, but at least it floats! Doesn't matter, he can't fish anyway. He's also one of these guys that hangs over the gunwales when you're coming in to dock the boat so he can grab the dock, thinking this is helpful. I think I have docked a boat about fifty thousand times. Still, he wants to help. Two years ago, as I was bringing the big Grady in at Wellesley, he leaned over and just disappeared over the edge. I'm now just about in the slip, and he's down in the water somewhere between the boat and the dock. That was a little scary. I could not see him, and did not know if he might have hit his head or something and was laying in the water. Fortunately, he was OK, but boy, you do have to give extra guidance to some passengers on your boat. You're a good sport Captain. Sometimes, we just have to do this stuff. Glad you and your crew made it back to tell the tale. Stay Sharp, Be Safe Grady
  5. Chamber of Commerce launch at the north end will do ya'. I drop a big Grady White in there with no trouble. Sampson Park is another good spot on the east side about 10 miles down Grady
  6. I don't exactly know where to post this, so Moderators, feel free to move it if this is an inappropriate place. My brother is moving to Bloomfield and Fish Creek runs right through the property. Looking at the creek, it appears capable of supporting fish. Looks like a trout stream where he is. We are trying to get any information that anyone has about this water There must be someone here that either lives on Fish Creek or grew up near it. Could you share any knowledge? We'd appreciate it very much. Thanks Grady
  7. Do you have a boat? This is just about the time when the panfish bite over on Honeoye should be getting going. Very few fishermen are going to post here that they are "really into the fish" so don't expect that. This is the right time of year though, the conditions are good and one would expect that there will soon be a bonanza of crappies and nice bluegills. Very same small green ice jigs you used in hardwater will get them under a bobber in shallow water. It's usually better first and last light. Try white grubs like waxworms and spikes and also try fatheads. Move quietly! These schools are up in shallow water and will bug out quick if startled. Remember, the crappies have to be 9". They do check your fish there from time to time. Good Luck, Grady
  8. That's what you get for fishing with Viagra! Grady
  9. Yes the perch are still active. Seneca Lake doesn't just give them up though so no guarantees you'll get into them. Search back through the old posts and find info about where to go and what to use. Good luck to you. If you find them, believe me, it's worth all the effort! Grady
  10. Call Ros and Larry at Roy's Marina. She usually has access to them, but they do get sold out. The number is 315 789-3094. Also, the guy that owns Honeoye Lake Bait shop has been carrying them. Don't have the number offhand. Grady

    iceshanty.com

I fixed my problem this way. Went to my "favorites" and deleted the bookmark for Iceshanty. Then I typed in their address in my browser and went to their main page, scrolled to the NY page, got on, logged back in with my name, etc. then bookmarked that. Now I have no problem getting on. I think you just need to give your computer an updated bookmark. Hope this helps. Stay Sharp, Be Safe Grady
  14. Rayo, Look up "Roy's Marina" on your search engine. This is on the west side of Seneca Lake about 3 miles from the north end. There is no place to fish from shore there, but they do have various baits and they have been the port of call for many of the great legends of Seneca Lake fishing history. There are some very knowledgable, nice people there who may be able to get you pointed in the right direction. The owner is named Larry and his wife is Ros. They know what they are doing and what they are talking about. Suggest you include them in your search for information. Good Luck, Grady

    I bay

Did the bay yesterday for a couple hours before sunset looking for a perch bite. Worked the little bays and ended up over by the bouys fishing 8-15'. Tried fatheads, various white grubs and jigs. Can't say it was much like what steinea286 did. He hit it when it was hot, I hit it when it was dead. No remarkable fish, no big creel number. It was pretty dull out there! Same was true with the other boats I spoke to. One guy did manage to boat a nice northern he caught on a fathead with a little perch rod. Watching him do that was the highlight of the evening! Nice night on the water, but the fishing was not what a lot of you probably were hoping to read. There are days like that on I Bay though. Keep at them and hopefully someone is going to post a bonanza here soon! Good Luck to Ya'll Grady
  16. My last big game trip was a Blue Marlin charter on the Big Island of Hawaii. The Captain himself inspected our bags and belongings prior to each days outing. He made no bones about making sure nobody EVER brought bananas out on his boat. Whatever the origin of the "myth" may be, some seasoned master anglers believe it to be true. That's good enough for me. No bananas are allowed on my boats either. Gotta' go with the pros on this one. Grady
  17. Predator, Just curious. What body of water did those perch come out of? Grady
  18. Guys, Thanks for the responses. I have been looking at the websites of some of the various places. Some might work, some can be ruled out due to their pet policy, and some look like seasonal types, but they are up there and they are starting points. I'll be calling some tomorrow. Gene, the dog is coming all the way from Dallas, Texas for this trip! I'm going to find a way to make that work. For this outing, I may have to look at places other than those you suggested, but I very well may revisit your suggestions in the future. Do you ever go up there in the winter for ice fishing? Grady
  19. OK, I'm not really sure where on the board I am supposed to post this. If it is not supposed to be here, maybe a mod could put my post in the right place. From September 16-20 my group of guys always goes up to Wellesley Island State Park, sets up a few trailers and tents, launches a few boats and fishes the heck out of the place for a few days. Apparently due to State cutbacks, the park(s) are closing up almost all the campsites at that time. What they have open is the loop where the big motorhomes etc go. We don't want to go there. We are not loud, destructive or immoral, but we are not choirboys either! We have campfires, we drink bourbon, smoke cigars, burp, fart and stay up late. Our group has a different agenda than the good folks that stay in those areas and we don't want to be a problem. All the State Parks in the area are doing the same thing that time of year, so our trip is getting tough to arrange. I am playing with idea of renting a camp for those few days where we can just have our guys only vacation, launch our boats, have our campfires, clean up after ourselves and leave it as we find it. We are looking for a place around the Wellesley, Clayton, A-Bay area. We have 5 boats, two trailers, several tents and one dog. We fish all day, clean our catches and eat them at night, have our fire, get up and do it again until we have to leave. Many of us are rental property owners ourselves, just not up there. We know how to be good tenants! Does anyone have a place they might consider letting us use, or do you have any suggestions on how to find one? I looked on the internet, but I keep finding these places that look like trophy homes. I mean some of them go so far as to tell you that you can't wear shoes in the house, you can't have a fire, you can't have fishing poles around the house or dock! To each his own I guess. Sure doesn't sound like a vacation home to me though. I need to talk to my fishing brothers. You guys know what we are doing, and what this trip is. We're harmless. We're just a bunch of brothers, fathers, uncles and good friends that like to get together every year and fish. Anybody got a way to find a camp we can use? Appreciate the help, Grady

    I-bay

Jeff, Do you know of the launch over in the Genny? It is back off Lake Rd. right by where the Fast Ferry used to be. There's a fee if the guy is still there!(hint) It think it's less than ten bucks. From here, you can run up the river and fish or shoot over to I bay along the lake. It's a little inconvenient, but if you are dead set against launching at SeaBreeze, it might be an option. I had no idea that the cops there were like that. I've launched at SeaBreeze a million times and never got a ticket. I thought that lot was a public lot. There must be some new rule, or maybe they never enforced the one they had. I can say the cops in the boat are a little over the top sometimes. I had one really get into me one evening while I was staged in the water waiting my turn to pull the boat out. I did not have my 360 light on. It was not dark, I was next to pull out, and this guy was threatening me with a ticket. After he "showed leniency" to me, he then told me to go over to the guy who was pulling his boat out and issue him a warning for not having his lights on. He stayed there until he watched me go up with my boat, tell the guy at the ramp that he was getting a warning through me, and then left us alone. I believe that unless I did this, he was going to write me up. Pretty impressive don't you think? I apologized to the guy after the cop left , but what kind of law enforcement is that? Glad you pounded the fish at least. Grady
  21. I have to laugh a little. That second picture makes you guys looks like you are prisoners in a jail made out of fishing rods for bars! If I ever have to go to jail, I hope my cell looks like that!! Grady
  22. Those of us who fish this #$%^& lake regularly know how great a day like this feels. Seneca can punish you day after day and then all at once, give you something like this. Congratulations! Hope you have many more days like it. This darn lake!! Grady PS How were the weeds?
  23. Mark, You're correct about the kings. That's a Lake Ontario only fish. You're going to find a nice mixed bag in the Finger Lakes. Along with salmonoids, there are bass, northerns, nice perch, and in some there are walleyes. Trolling programs work, vertical jigging will get you lakers if you don't have a set up for deep water trolling. Conventional presentations will get the rest. Seneca Lake should be given it's due respect in the wind. That lake can get very big and very mean in a hurry when the winds come up, especially south and north blows. I've had a few moments out there that my dry cleaner had to get me out of! You can call Roy's Marina there and ask them for conditions before you head out. I Bay, Sodus Bay, and Port Bay may be some other options if it gets a little rough out on the big pond. Best of Luck, Grady
  24. Ros and Larry have a nice selection of minnows and crawlers there at Roy's. They have a good launch there, they sell gas also if your friend need it. Also, as stated in another post, there is a lady on 5&20, just west of Byrne Dairy Store that has a good selection of Arkansas shiners, sawbellies, fatheads and worms. I believe she also has hardshell crabs. I have purchased softshell crabs from her before so I know she gets them from time to time. That's a killer bait for Seneca. Good Luck, Grady
  25. Grady White is my boat of choice as well! The company does not have a recommended preference with respect to trailers. They suggest you make your selection based on whatever your experience and personal comfort dictates. Personally, my Gradys have always been on Eagle bunk trailers Eagle manufactures trailers utilizing CAD CAM technology to fit the bunks precisely to the hull rakes and chines of these boats using Grady White's own specifications. You can't believe how nice it is to have your boat position itself exactly correct every time with such a beautifully designed trailer. I do not like rollers myself. I launch alone a fair amount of the time. These boats are heavy and they will start rolling backwards pretty easily when you are launching with rollers. I prefer to back in and float mine off the bunks. Believe me, I have probably launched a Grady White at every launch you will go to! (kind of a fishing maniac!) I have never encountered an issue or wished for a roller trailer. Whatever you decide, I commend you on your choice of boats. Grady95
