  6. Ok Gentlemen, I will be fishing both of the Niagara Pro/Am’s but will be unable to attend the Captains meeting for the events. That means that I will not be able to facilitate the Calcutta so unless some steps up to take over this task the event will be with out this extra prize. I will be handling this task at the Oak Orchard Open. Bob Songin
  7. I would like to thank everyone who showed up yesterday to receive our fish. We definitely had adverse conditions to work in and everyone did a great job. The job ahead is just as important we need to take care of feeding the fish, with the size we received them it should be no longer than a 3 week job, performed 4 times a day. So please either stop in or call Lake Breeze Marina at 682-3995 to confirm you will take a spot to feed fish. The 3-steelhead pens are the furthest north pens the rest are salmon. The food will be next to the pens if the container is empty there are bags in the barn directly above the pens. The brown bags have the steelhead food tagged #3 size; the #2 size is for the salmon. The will be smaller containers inside the large ones to scoop the food out to feed the fish please only fill as denoted we do not want to over feed the fish, also please make sure you spread food by hand evenly across the pen so all of the fish get the best chance to eat the food before it falls through the pen to the bottom of the river. Thanks Again for your help, Bob Songin
  8. Looks like we are going to get the bad end of the weather tomorrow, but that will not stop the DEC from delivering our fish. The plan to be there at 1:00 so please come out and help us. We will also need people to start help feeding them on Wednesday morning you can sign up for that at the office at Lake Breeze. See you Tuesday Bob Songin
  9. The new report format is video please check it out at the Reel Excitement Face Book page I will be posting it as often as possible.
  10. Fished the pump house to green harbor today on my first trip, limited on browns the biggest a couple 10’s the rest were average spring fish. Mostly muddy water real bad in front of the river and Johnson’s, fished the edge. Our best stick was Thunder Jr’s in Firetiger the second best was Billy Burrou. On the riggers the DW Mixed veggies was good. We also found good green water out in 50-60 on our way back and took a few lakers there. Bucaroo fished east to the flats and also had a good day, he told me their best was the Rapala GFR, makes sense with the muddy water.
  11. Guys the fish will be here on Tuesday the 15th, I have not got a confirmation on the time yet but I will assume 12:30 –1:00 like always if it is different I will get the word out. Hope to see everyone there. We will need fish feeders starting the Wednesday morning so please see if you can make time in your schedules to help with the feeding. Again thanks for everyone’s help. Bob Songin 585-733-5829
  12. The pump motor was not working, but we got it going. Now I have to go out tommarrow and calibrate it.
  13. Today it was shake down time and we did find a few problems, which have been resolved. John Polandick and I fished from the point to Lakeside park bluffs 8-10ft a lot of muddy water with some just stained areas. We only got our riggers to work 5 down 50 back hot spoon was the DW SS Mixed veggies we also had the old style Yek small candy corn take shots, all medium browns. Made one pass then went in to fix the problems, one was the Auto Pilot so it was very important to get that resolved before my first trip this weekend. I will be posting reports both on LOU and my Reel Excitement Face Book page so you can find them either place.
  14. I would like to thank everyone who showed up today to put the pens together in very adverse conditions. Do to the high level of participation it made short work of the project, which I am sure everyone was very happy about. It shows the people that participated care about the success of our fishery. As soon as I get confirmation on the delivery date of our fish I will forward it on to everyone. Again thanks for the your help today. Bob Songin Oak Orchard Pen Rearing Coordinator
  15. Just a reminder we will be putting our pens together tomorrow at 8:00 AM at Lake Breeze marina, whatever the weather, we must get them done since there is a good chance we will be receiving fish next week. Don’t forget your side cutters. See you there Bob Songin 585-733-5829
  16. Yes spring is coming in one day that means our salmon will be coming soon also. I would like to set the date for putting our pens together for April 5th it is a Saturday at 8:00 AM at Lake Breeze Marina. Please bring your side cutters. It looks like the fish delivery date should be before the 11th of April that is the earliest we have gotten them in a number of years.
  17. The plan for Pen Rearing this spring will be to put the pens together on Saturday April 5th unless I get some updated information from the DEC on a earlier delivery date than the 5th.
  18. Some good news from the meeting with the DEC Monday night. The Salmon designated for the pen rearing projects will be ready for delivery in early April. I asked if it would be before the 10th and the answer was it was very possible. I would like to congratulate the hatchery manager Andy and is guys for a job well done to this point in time, under very adverse conditions with the weather they had to deal with this year Now all we need is the ice to get out in time!!!!
  19. The "At the Oak" web site is gone! Due to issues out of my control I was not able to secure the "attheoak.com" domain name when Joe and Shirley's registration ran out. So it has been put to rest. I will continue to post as often as possible the fishing reports for the Oak Orchard/Point Breeze area on my face book page "Reel Excitement Charters" and on the "Lake Ontario United" site using the Post topic byline of "At the Oak". So look for it for this coming year only while I am fishing out of the Oak. Unlike in years past while I was fishing up at the Niagara Bar in May and did not pass along that info to the "At the Oak" site I will be doing that this year at both the "Reel Excitement Charters" page and on LOU with the Post topic "At the Bar".
  20. lets try again here is the PDF 2013_LOU_Highlights_Website.pdf
  21. Rolmops were you able to reach Steve Lapan and if you did how did the the conversation go?
  22. Since you feel strongly about the Powder Mills Hatchery, please pursue this avenue and keep us informed on your progress. The best starting point would be Steve Lapan at Cape Vincent he is the unit leader of Lake Ontario (315)-654-2147. If it looks like a possibility of it becoming a viable option we will gladly support it. But since Caledonia has a proven track record and has the space we will still try to purse it as an option. Good Luck and please keep us up to date.
  23. The problem is not water volume it is water “Temperatureâ€. The pumps that were replaced at SRH were to reuse water that had been circulated through rearing house to the ponds outside. Stocking fish in the state It is illegal unless permitted and controlled by the DEC. Although the browns that are released from Powder Mills can go to the lake they are really intended for opportunities in the creek. The DEC is against anyone raising kings and stocking them in the lake because the feel they lose control. We have suggested this in the past with little success. Guys, that is some great out of the box thinking now how do we convince the DEC to look into these opportunities. Raising other spices at the Powder Mill park hatchery would and could provide opportunities for all anglers. I am sure we will hear some excuse as to why they can’t do it, most likely space.
