  1. Thanks for the tips Mark. I ran spoons (Michigan Stinger and NK) 50-75' back to start and then tried them back 100 - 150'. They seemed to stay down at first out further, but then surfaced again. I was trolling at 2.2mph for the most part with the boards out. There was some floating "gunk" in the water but I managed to avoid collecting any. If I bother to try for BT again, I will try the split shot idea. But as fun as the steelhead are, I doubt I will LTtroller (Bob) P.S. - In regards to you SLIME post... there was some I noticed while fish for the BT in close to shore, but I did not come across any out in the deeper water. Good luck!

Boat Depth: 140 - 180FOW Lure Depth: 25 - 75' ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ==================== Did solo trip this morning. Thought I would focus on BT to start with boards in 10-30 FOW. I couldn't seem to keep my spoons down and after several attempts and wasting an hour+ of fishing time I gave up and headed to deeper water. (Any suggestions as to why my lures were surfacing of the boards would be appreciated ... new to boards) Started to set up in 125FOW off the pumphouse and immediately had marks and bait down 50-60'. Had riggers set at 25' and 45' and SD/fly out 200 on #3. Worked the area most the morning picking up 6 sthd and 1 LT. Most action was in the 155 - 180FOW and all rods took fish at depths mentioned above. Did double up with sthd in 177' FOW, 1 was a jumper, the other was ripping line like a king. Both in the 6-8lb range. Fun stuff solo . Fish were caught on Stingers in bummble bee & die hard patterns. And the Hammertime SD/Fly. GOOD LUCK to all! LTtroller (Bob)
  3. Hi reddog20fan. Wait till he experiences a screaming king, you'll never get him out of the boat! Nice job LTtroller (Bob)
  4. Thanks Brian, I guess that makes me feel a little better. It was frustrating as hell though. You guys still use channel 72 out of Sandy? I only have a handheld and didn't hear a peep Friday morning. I figured everyone was using cell phones Take care. LTtroller (Bob)

Not sure what my issue was today but have never dropped so many fish . Hooks seemed sharp, but I will be changing it out on my Hammer fly b4 I go out again. The Hammer time combo took 6 of the 9 hits (landing 1 6# king). Most action was in the 160 - 190FOW on wire out 210 on #3 setting. A mag 42nd spoon on rigger set at 75 took 2 hits (landing 1 8# laker). A glow NBK took the other hit on rigger set at 60'. GOOD LUCK to all this weekend! LTtroller (Bob)
  6. Thanks tcon. Ya it was a nice morning on the water. She really wanted that bow picture though ... it was a beauty! Always good when the motors and gear cooperate , the fish were a bonus at that point. LTtroller (Bob)
  7. Did the shakedown trip this a.m. with my daughter. She got her 1st rainbow (~7#) at the boat within the 1st 20min. of fishing, but we dropped it while getting the camera out . Did a few more fish off the boards with stickbaits, including a nice fat smallie about 4#. Ran the seth green rig for a short time picking up a 5# laker. Did nothing on the rigger with spoons and never did get the dipseys in. Spent most time in 70fow or less, till I ran the rig in 100-130fow. All on the east shore out of Woodville. Surface temp was 44. Turned out there was a nice mud line extending down the middle of the lake over deeper water which I did not see until we were out of time.... 2 other boats seemed to be working it when we left. Awesome March day to be on the water, boat ran good & got some fish. Definetly beats going to work LTtroller (Bob)
  8. Thanks for the replies guys. Tcon- Ya I would love to run up to the north, but with the daughter aboard I just assume start fishing ASAP for her sake as well as mine . Plus, 1st time out I like to stay semi close to my launch area, just in case . Smaltcody- Thanks for the tips. I think I might start fairly shallow with the boards and shallow riggers, then if nothings happening head out to the 120 - 150 depth with dipseys and riggers down deep. And then to the "trusty" seth green rig if all else fails. I'll report back tomorrow. LTtroller (Bob)
  9. Hi all! Headed to Woodville tomorrow a.m. for shakedown trip and to see if I can get my daughter her 1st trout. I'm sure I could scrape a LT of the bottom with the Seth Green rig, but I would prefer to get her something off the wires or riggers. I normally fish the north end this time of year but with the ramp closed I am forced to head south. I am not too familiar with the south end so any suggestions as to the depth &/or general area to start looking would be appreciated. THANKS! LTtroller (Bob)
  10. Well it sounds as though I might as well keep the roller rod and give it a try. Even though I like matching gear .... Mower - The only reason I had to purchase 2 new dipsy rods is my boy broke 2 Daiwa Heartlands at the tip last summer "flicking" off fleas Probably human error, not faulty rods. I've had the rods 3 or 4 years without issue. Irish56 - I actually like the longer rods on my smaller (17') boat just to give me a few extra feet of spread. Can be awkward landing fish solo, but when I have a partner I just walk towards the bow and have my partner net the fish at the transom.... of course doesn't always work like that! LTtroller (Bob)
  11. Thanks for the reply Mortigan. The new rod has rollers all the way up the shaft though, just not a roller tip.
  12. Hi all. I just ordered 2 Okuma Blue Diamond dipsy rods, but Fish USA sent me only 1 - 10'mh dipsy rod that I ordered and then 1 - 10' mh wire roller rod that I did not. My question is does anyone use the roller rods with wire for salmonids, or is it designed for salt water applicatiions and would I only be creating proplems for myself by trying to use it with a wire/dipsy set-up.? It costs considerably more, but I guess if it is not adviseable to use I will call them and exchange it for the proper 1. Thanks for any suggestions. LTtroller (Bob)
  13. Well it is time to give up on the Big-O and concentrate on the fantastic fall fishery on Canandaigua Lake. The north end is where I usually set up shop, but with the ramp closed I was "forced" to head south. Actually woodville is not much further than the north end from home, but just never seem to fish down there. I ran a 3 rod spread with 2 riggers and 1 wire rod. Headed out first light and set up headed towards the white rock in 130FOW. Barely had all 3 in the water when a 4# rainbow hits the glow fire frog stinger parked at 45'. Past the white rock and "BAM" the wire starts screaming like a Lake O king. After a nice battle I land a beautiful, fat 10# bow . It took a green & white SD w/ a hammer fly out 125 on 3 setting. While battling that "beast" my rigger rod down 55' with a shrimp stinger starting thumping but I wasn't about to even touch that rod when I knew I had a good fish in hand. Did 2 other decent bows 1 on the same wire and another on the shrimp stinger before swithing up to the Seth Green rig for the last 1/2 hour. Did 1 small laker on a sutton35 down 90'. Also lost 2 others, 1 on a dalmation SD w/ mirage fly of rigger down 55', and the other on a diehard stinger down 45'. Spent most time in 85-140FOW on the east side. GPS speed was 2.2-2.7. Surface temp was 68. Overcast to start then bright sun. Lake was calm and was pea soup green and murky. Had some issues with mats of weeds. Leaves are turning so get out there and enjoy the scenery and the awesome Canandaigua Lake fall fishing! SUMMARY- 5 for 8 w/ 4 Bows & 1 Laker. Fished 3.5hrs. South end, east shore. LTtroller (Bob)

Several hits came as soon as the rod was set, and one before. That set up took the first 6 fish and not a thing on the other rigger. About 7pm we put on a Stinger diehard on the "quite" rigger, set at 33, and all of a sudden that rigger took all the fish . All steelies were in the 4-8lb. range, and most put on a nice show , but also caused havoc with the dipsey lines a few times. The kings came on Dalmation SD w/ mirage fly out 300 and a Hammer SD/ fly combo out 270, both on 3 setting. Both kings were in the 12-15lb. range and the boy had fun with them. Besides a broken rod tip (thanks again son) it was a good evening on the water and fishing was good. Did not mark much, but the fish were there. Have a great weekend all, I'm working, but can't wait to get out there again. GOOD LUCK! LTtroller (Bob)
  15. Nice job! Matt must have lost the big 1. Well, hopefully you didn't lose track of any in the bottom of the boat this time Did decent in the p.m. in the same vacinity. Have a good trip camping up north. See ya.

Dropped speed to 1 - 1.4mph and got a small laker. I have always heard how effective this set-up was but had never tried it, I guess it works. I wasn't out for lakers though, so I gave a quick shout-out on the radio for help with down temp. Thank you to TOMAHAWK for the info. Ran out to 175FOW and put gear down in the 90-110 range. Wasn't too long after the wire out 330 fires, nice 14# king. While re-setting that line (out ~315) something grabbed it, but was gone before the boy realized a fish was on, just glad he had a decent hold on the rod . Did a double to end the trip in about 130 FOW on the wire out 330 again, a 10#+ laker, and a beautiful 16# king on the rigger down 75. Both green flasher/ fly combos, at 2.4mph . All the fish were caught (or missed) on a SE troll. GOOD LUCK TO ALL! LTtroller (Bob)

Boat Depth: 50-100' Lure Depth: 45-95' ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ==================== Made my first trip to the Big O this year. A bit rough for my 17' Tracker, but after a slow & wet ride to the park, into the waves, I trolled in and out riding the waves back towards the creek. All fish came within 10' of bottom in 50-100FOW. Spoons off riggers took the fish. Color didn't seem to matter = glow frog, red frog, bumble bee, and die-hard. Wish I could have stuck it out longer than 3 hours but I was tired of being beat up by the constant waves. O'well, caught some fish and wasn't at work . Good luck all! LTtroller (Bob)
  18. Hi all. Thinking of trying to get out tommorow a.m. for the first trip of the year. Wondering if anyone can give me some lake & north end launch conditions? Also, any fishing reports? Thanks in advance! LTtroller (Bob)
  19. Well wanted to give my tree stands a rest and get out on the water to enjoy the sun & 50 degree temps. LOL. The only thing near 50 was the surface temp, and it was cloudy with misty rain, or maybe I was just in a cloud the entire time. Gotta love them weathermen! Anyhow... Went 6 for 7 on lakers. All on wires set at 90 & 120 on #3 dipsey settings. Fished in mainly 60 - 90 FOW at the north end. White e-chip / white fly combo & green SD / green fly combo did equally well. Did wire set up for the first 2 & 1/2 hours before trying the seth green rig out deep for the final hour. Old Seth was silent today. After a slower than normal spring on this lake it really picked up, and as usual the fall was very productive. All and all, a good season. Caught some decent fish and had no outboard motor issues. Probably the last report of the year, so everyone have a great and safe hunting season and HAPPY HOLIDAYS! LTtroller (Bob)
  20. Hi. Hit the north end solo this morning for a few hours before the rain set in. Did 6 lakers & lost 2 from 7:30 - 11:00 a.m. No slobs, but a few decent ones. Wires took most the fish w/white e-chip & white mirage fly combo and hammer SD & hammer fly combo splitting the first 5 fish in 60 - 80 FOW. Wires out between 150' to 210' on the 3 setting. Switched to the "meat rig" for the final hour and managed 1 on a Sutton 71, and lost another while working the middle of the lake in ~ 110-130 FOW. Good fishing to all! LTtroller (Bob)
  21. Hey Mike. Sounds like another decent day on the water . Glad you recovered your gear & your fishing partner. Good thing the water is still relatively warm, although 60 probably was still a shock to the system . Good fishing! LTtroller Bob
  22. Hi Mike. Nice photos. GREAT bow Todd! Sounds like a couple decent days out there. Keep it up! LTtroller (Bob)
  23. Thanks for the replies guys. Have a good season! LTTroller (Bob)
  24. Sk8man, Glad to hear you and the boy had some decent action. Those Canandaigua smallies sure are pigs aren't they? Had 1 take my 44 last time out also. Way to go! LTtroller (Bob)
