  1. NICE JOB! That's not the way I heard it though. Keith said you gave him an body check on the way to the rod. Just kidding. He had fun just getting out. I will forward the pics after I get them off his camera, if I don't "accidentally" delete them. Next time, you can work for me and I'll go catch the fish. Congrats on making the board, and to all the other LOUer's that did. LTtroller Bob
  2. Nice job FLXTroutman! Looks like everyone was having fun. Some nice photos too. Talk to you later. LTtroller Bob
  3. Tried to find a $20,000 fish this morning w/ FISHIN AGAIN ? and my son but the "BIG ONE" (as well as most of the other ones) avoided our 3 lines. Did go 2 for 5 with a 15# king and a skipper. Had a quick rip on a wire out 210 on #3 in 75FOW that didn't stay on long. That was on white spinny with mirage fly. The 15lber came on the wire out 160 on #3 in 85FOW on a 42nd spinny w/ a green crinkle fly. We then had 2 releases on the leadcore out 10 colors on the board draging a 42nd spoon, but noone home. The skipper came on a "son produced" black and silver fly behind a prism e-chip on the wire out 175 on #2 in 100FOW. Thought we would have caught more w/ all the stuff we were marking but just didn't get something quite right. :? Plus wasted some time with a wire / leadcore tangle. :x Well gonna try again Friday A.M. or Sunday before our chartered trip on Monday. Maybe I can pick up some tips. GOOD LUCK ALL. Catch lots, just leave me one 40#er. LTtroller Bob
  4. Fireplug, Glad to hear you had a good trip. LTtroller Bob
  5. Hi FLXTroutman, Nice fish! Sorry I missed your pm. Maybe next time. Is Angus in my seat? LTtroller Bob
  6. Nice report FLXTroutman. Glad to see you are back on the water and catching them lakers. I didn't hear from you this winter. Did you get out much or was your ride sold by then? I haven't been out much this year (dog, wife, kids, gas, etc.) only Canandaigua 2x early on and "the meat rig" didn't produce much. Been to Lake O 2x also, but haven't gotten into the kings yet - the best is yet to come. Glad to see that the wires/flashers are producing on the Finger Lakes as well, now I don't feel bad that I spent all the $ last year setting up for salmon on the "BIG O". You don't hear a lot of guys running wire/flashers on the FL , but maybe they are just tight lipped. I did try them on Seneca last fall and did pretty well. Lets see some pics of your new ride, and oh ya, the fish! Take care & GOOD FISHING! LTtroller (Bob)
  7. Hi Mdryer, I purchased a seat base from Gander Mnt. for ~$20 that my mast fit into perfectly. I then drilled 2 holes through the base and mast and bolted them together. I now have a removeable mast and no extra holes in my new decking. Good luck! LTtroller (Bob)
  8. Hey there retired one. Another one of A-a-als' boys here. You should be the one taking me and Brian out to show us the ropes on the big lake. We kinda struggled with no down temp/speed, but at least we were not skunked - gotta love them lakers. Hope you are enjoying the fruits of your many years of hard labor. "FISHING IS GREAT IN NY STATE" Good to hear from you. Take care. LTtroller Bob
  9. Gander Mnt. thoughts : -They are an outdoor store, not a bait shop. To be honest, I'm shocked to here that they are even open before 9:00am. - Henrietta has been OKAY as far as having inventory on hand for me. You can't really expect to hear that fish are slaughtering the "purple puke passion plug", and expect them to have a bunch a few days later can you? I was also in the Watertown Gander a couple weeks ago and they were just setting out box after box of trolling tackle - yes, huuuuuuuuuuge amounts of inventory. Plan ahead I guess. - I have had good service at the fishing dept. counter, but I am sure that all depends on when you are there, and who is behind the counter. I hate going to the malls, so Dick's is only a last resort and Bass Pro is 1.5 hrs. away. So I guess I am happy that we have a Gander Mnt. that is on our way up to the "big pond". It may not be the best or have everything, but it is still better than nothing. Just my 2 cents. GOOD FISHING ALL! LTtroller Bob
  10. Started Friday with my 1st trip back to Canandaigua Lake since early spring. Very nice, but chilly morning. Went 8 for 11 on Lakers with the biggest being 28", though 1 of the 3 I lost was "a real good one" . Fished just over 3 hours in 80-140 FOW w/ "the old reliable" Seth Green rig. Sutton 71's & 44's did the damage. Didn't have the time to try the flasher/fly rig FLXTroutman, next time. Saturday was just as good, but in the woods, not on the water. Bagged a "real nice", 130 class, buck w/ the bow . He was a bruiser 9 pt., and I am glad I didn't have to drag him to far. Sunday wasn't too bad either, after cutting up the deer, I relaxed by watching the Bills beat up the Bengals. They actually showed some offensive "fire power". Well, I'm sure it will be tough to beat that weekend, but I will surely try again. The fishing is great, and the deer are on the move. Get out there and enjoy it. Good Luck to you all! LTtroller Bob P.S.- Picture of the deer.
  11. Hi FLXTroutman, Sounds good to me! I usually put my boat up around mid-late November, but often wish I would not have with the recent mild winters. I would be game to go anytime. I recently picked up a planer mast and a couple boards, and just today bought a seat base to try and adapt it to the mast. Never used them so this may be a big learning experience, but hopefully will be worth the time & effort. With my smaller boat, "spreading" things out should allow me to run more lines without tangles . Talk to ya later. LTtroller (Bob)
  12. FLXTroutman, I will pm you when I start heading your way to see about hooking up for a trip. From the pictures I saw of your rig on your summer posts, I think are boats are probably about the same size - but if I recall correctly you were set up with riggers. I have a 17' Tracker w/ 1 mini rigger that I have not used very much or very effectively for that matter, so I have stuck to the "reliable" fish catcher - the Seth Green rig. Catch ya later. LTtroller (Bob)
  13. HI FLXTroutman, Been wondering what's been going on down there on Canandaigua Lake. Haven't seen any reports from you lately. Sorry to hear you had a tough couple days . Can't always be "easy" . Almost came down on Sat., but opted for salmon off of Sandy instead. Glad I did too - very good morning up there (see Sandy 9/22 - A.M.report) I'll be down there soon, so leave some fish for me . Take care. GOOD FISHING! LTtroller (Bob)
  14. FISHING AGAIN? and I fished the creek mouth for a few hours yesterday morning, with some good results. We boated 7 kings, and had 2 more "quick hits" with nobody home. The fish ranged from 16-24#. A few made some good long runs, while others seemed to be running out of gas (fun just the same). J's were the ticket in whatever color "the captain" suggested - he thinks he is ready to become a charter capt. now :lol. Fire tiger, green glow, silver bullet, and his homemade bloodylip all took fish on both the slide diver and leadcore rigs (2 colors early, then went to 3). Fished from 15 - 35FOW. We never did get a 3rd rod in the water. The wind/waves were starting to pick up pretty good by 9:30am so we decided to call it "a great morning" and return home to our family duties. There were some questionable sized boats still out there when we left, so I hope they realized catching a salmon or 2 is not worth risking their life for. Well I am going to try and post some pictures for the 1st time, so we'll see what happens. GOOD FISHING ALL! LTtroller (Bob)
  15. GAMBLER, Just wanted to say THANKS for all your great reports this summer. You, and several others, out of Sandy made my "rookie" season for summer kings fairly successful. Your advice and tips were very helpfull for putting fish in my boat. I am sure I would not have done as well if I was going out there without a clue of what depth to start fishing or what to try on the end of my line. THANKS AGIAN! Have a good off season, and hope to meet you up there next year. Take care. LTtroller (Bob)
  16. Tank, Nice report & photos. Sounds like you had a very good day. Hoping to get out Sunday evening or Monday (weather/wave dependent)and seeing your results just makes me even more excited about going. I think there are still plenty of good days left in this fishing season before putting the boat up and concentrating on the woods. Enjoy them! LTtroller (Bob)
  17. Actually Tank I have learned recently (last few years) that some of the best fishing on the FL is in Oct/Nov. so any days off that are to warm for sitting a tree, I head for the water, usually Canadaigua Lake. Less morons on the water, then in the woods too! Take care. LTtroller (BOB)
  18. Tank, Yea that doesn't seem right does it. Really the forecast doesn't sound that good for my smaller boat, plus the boy wants to go try and shoot some geese tomorrow morning. Then we're going to pick out our new lab puppy so my lazy a.. doesn't have to be the retriever anymore. Good luck if you make it out. LTtroller (Bob)
  19. HI all. Did the "evening thing" for the 1st time this year and had a ball! After a slow start, from 4:30-6:00pm, with nothing but a couple of wire/dipsey rigs tangled together & not seeing much on the screen, I was beginning to get the whiff of a possible skunkaroo. Then at 6:15 or so things picked up. Started with a drop, then a 24# king, then a 10lber, another drop, and then as the boy was picking up the last rod to call it a night, a 16# king just about ripped the rod out of his hands. He fought it into the dark. What fun! Now for the particulars: Went 3 for 5, all fish caught on white/pearl e-chip w/white mirage fly. Both drops on a green sd w/green krinkle fly. All strikes in 50-60FOW with wires out 100-120', on the 3 dipsey settings. GPS 2.5 - 2.7 mph. Surface temp ~ 71. I've read some of the reports on here that say the df screen was blank until the sun goes down, and then the screen lights up with bait/fish. I honestly could not image that happening that quickly. I believe now! I have never seen that much activity on my df before. It makes it that much more exciting to know that there are fish around and that a strike could be coming at any second. Good luck to you all this weekend. I'm taking the weekend off for my B-day Sat. & the Bills game on Sun. GO BILLS! LTtroller (Bob)
  20. Fireplug, CONGRATS on your 1st King. Glad to see you made it to the BIG O and landed a few screamers. Now that is fun - huh? Canandaigua lakers just don't seem to fight like that! I confess, IM AN ADDICT! I was hooked last fall. Now I can't stop thinking of when I am going to get out again. Winds and waves limit me with my boat size, but whenever feasable I go for the kings. Can one ever have enough fishing tackle? I always say I'm not going to buy any more tackle, but I never seem to leave Gander Mnt. or Dicks without something fishing related. O'well you gotta spend your money on something right? Good luck with finding a new job, but until you do - enjoy the fishing! Take care. LTtroller (Bob)
  21. Nice report GAMBLER. Looks like a full day of action again. We stayed off the creek to the pump house (as usuall) and had company for the first hour or 2, then the "pack" seemed to all head your way or out. I guess we should have too! Things slowed there after 9:00am (see my post). Thou I'm not complaing 3 for 6 is a busy 3.5 hours for my boat and I didn't have to fight much boat traffic. GOOD LUCK this week Brian. LTtroller (Bob)
  22. Mike- Nice job w/ the 25lber. The boy must have had a ball with it. I guess it pays to be out there early. Catching a few kings makes getting up at 4:30am well worth it. And is definetly better than mowing the lawn. Scott- All I can say is OUCH! I guess I don't feel that bad after all. Having the action is great, but not landing the fish is frustrating. Better luck to you today. I was just gonna post the :?: of when people start to run J's but I see you are now. Is it a water depth (shallower fish) thing or time of year (staging) thing? GOOD LUCK ALL! LTtroller (Bob)
  23. Nice catch & photos LongLine! On my way to Sandy this AM I saw that plume of smoke (?) also. I saw it as I was passing Braddocks Bay about 5:45am and then again while we were fishing. It looked like a tornado funnel when I saw it driving by. I've heard thats what water spouts look like, but I have never seen one and don't know when nor how they form. Can anybody confirm what it was? GOOD FISHING ALL! LTtroller (Bob)
  24. Hi all. Decent morning out on the big pond. FISHING AGAIN? & myself ran a 3 wire rod set up and went 3 for 6. We did 3 kings, the biggest just over 20#. All in 85-100 FOW. Wire out 100' on 0 setting & out 180 on 3 setting. GPS read 2.6/7 mph. White/pearl e-chip w/white mirage fly was the hot rod. It caught 2, had 1 drop, and then had the fly "stolen" by another - at the end of the trip we brought the rigs in only to find the fly gone. A bite off? :? In all we had 3 drops after only having 1 the entire year between the 2 of us. What's up with that? The drops all came in the shallower water around 70-80' range, maybe small browns? The 3 kings all came before 8:00 am, and the 3 drops between 8 & 9am, then nothing for the final hour before packing it up about 10:00am to do the "family thing". Well enjoy the rest of the holiday weekend all. The derby winning fish is still out there - someones got to top a 31#er. GOOD LUCK ALL! LTtroller (Bob)
