  1. While were on that topic. Heres some more bad news. A guy is keeping a nice 40" Tiger to mount from the Fulton Chain. Too nice a fish to kill. Shoot. http://www.iceshanty.com/ice_fishing/in ... c=143036.0
  2. Im not sure why the DEC doesnt make all muskies statewide total catch and release. The nice ones are problably 20 years old and take too long to replace. Reproduction mounts look as good and last longer anyway. They should at least make it 54" size limit like on the St. Lawrence. It seems like ice fishermen do heavy damage on alot of lakes. I dont see alot of catch & release. At braddocks theres pike laying all over the ice, at my cottage near the islands, guys poach Largemouth all winter. I guess ice guys are a different breed. I release most of mine except jumbo Perch. Whatever.

  4. Is 24 feet the all time record for Erie? Im not sure it can go any higher can it??? I think the record for Lake O is 21 feet if my memory serves me right. I read that somewhere. I guess the big ocean rigs were a bit nervous yesterday on Lake O. as a source told me they were so close to shore you could read the name on the boat.
  5. Heres an update to an old post. A reliable source has spoken to a taxidermist from Kendall, NY who got a job from a guy who caught a 20 lb musky off the pier at Hamlin Beach State Park. Im trying to get more details and will post when and if I do. I cant get this question out of my mind why more muskies are not caught in the central basin area around Rochester even by accident. Im sure nobody is targeting them around this area for good reason but with all the trollers out there even a stray one by accident is not asking for too much. Anybody else hear of any or caught any from Oak Orchard to Sodus this year?
  6. Good man. Youre' a heck of a walleye fisherman. Im itching to get up to quinte myself, I would think right about now is prime time. How rough does it get there?
  7. Landshark, Gorgeous fish! Congrats. Were the fish all killed in order to weigh for the tourney or released?
  8. Same story here... Lots of trying for tigers but not many to show for. Got a few smaller ones. Got some beauty Pike trying though and some good follows as well. Im not sure there are any lakes in NY where you can be assured of a tiger. DEC stats show 95% of lakes stocked with tigers dont produce squat. DEC considers Conesus one of their best tiger lakes in the state but I personally dont see it.
  9. Larry, Glad to hear your doing better. Hang in there the fish will be there for you when you get back. BP
  10. Dont know for sure about the docks Brad but last year at this time they were long gone, The only thing to tie up on was the small metal part that the docks attach too, I think the waters low right now so glass on concrete might be a bad idea. You might want to see if anyone else chimes in on this.
  11. Thanks Nitro, wonder how low the water is for launching without a dock?
  12. Old man I like your attitude. Ive used a similar line before myself. "if you want to eat fish, go to the fish market and buy em". I also release everything. Gamefish are too valueable to keep no matter what.
  13. Old man when you say all the hits were coming on the pause, how are you getting a bucktail to pause? Do you mean a quick "hickup" or letting it flutter down? Nice going on the Pike. Those are nice ones for sure.
  14. I think there is a major problem brewing at Conesus. I was there today and there was a sign just north of the launch on East Lake Rd that said the bridge just to the North of the launch will be closed starting Oct 5. So if you're coming from the North (Rochester), you have to go all the way around the lake West lake Rd and back up east lake rd to get to the state launch. Whos the genius who decided to start bridge work with a month+ left in the fishing season? Does anyone know of any other launches coming from the north?
  15. Also that fish has the markings of a Lake St Claire fish, whered he get it and how long was it? Its also possible the guys were doing the old trick of holding it far away from their body to make it look bigger I guess.
  16. There have been many 50 lb class fish caught out of the St Lawrence, Georgian Bay, Fench River, etc. The book "Musky Compendian" by Larry Ramsell shows the biggest muskies ever recorded and none of them including all world record candidates looked anything like that photo. Somethings just not quite right with this photo. I dont doubt a certified record, just the photo.
  17. Is the river section you fished deep enough for a small 14 foot boat/ 9.9 h.p or suitable for kayaks/canoes only? Ive been itching to do that. Thanks BP
  18. That photo is doctored for sure. Photoshop
  19. Hope your using a quick strike rig, lots of post release mortality with suckers.
  20. so you guys are saying between 18" and 4 feet. Thats a pretty wide range. I guess it depends on the mood of the fish. I was looking for a general rule of thumb for Lake O. Im guessing 2 feet?
  21. What would be a good leader length from Dipsey to Flasher and what lb. test ? Also what is an ideal speed range for Salmon using flasher/Flys ? Slower than spoons? Thanks much BP
  22. Solo with bluebird skies and calm seas you did quite well under those conditions. Not your typical Musky conditions. Nice goin! I was there last week with my son and he got a 36" ski at 2:30PM, goes to show that you can expect the unexpected in Musky fishing. BP
  23. I was reading the directions on the Pro Troll flasher with the e chip and they recommend a leader length of 3 or 4 feet to the lure but from what Ive seen most of the commercial flys sold have a 18-24" leader. Do these shorter leaders work behind flashers or do they need to be 3-4 feet as mentioned? Also has anyone had any luck using a spoon behind a flasher? Thanks BP
  24. I was wondering if it's best to tie a wire line directly to a dipsey or to use a swivel instead so you can switch easy? What colors dipseys seem to work best on Lake O? I've been using clear and black with limited success but now Im wondering if I should use something bright and gaudy instead of trying to camoflage them?
