Try this. It can not hurt. don't usually do fowards but this just might work. It's worth a try. THIS IS NOT THE 'DON'T BUY' GAS FOR ONE DAY, BUT IT WILL SHOW YOU HOW WE CAN GET GAS BACK DOWN TO $1.30 PER GALLON. This was sent by a retired Coca Cola executive. It came from one of his engineer buddies who retired from Halliburton.(not the greatest credential) If you are tired of the gas prices going up AND they will continue to rise this summer, take time to read this PLEASE. Phillip Hollsworth offered this good idea. This makes MUCH MORE SENSE than the "don't buy gas on a certain dayâ€

Thanks Chromslayer for the update.

Has anyone been fishing out of Olcott. I see most of the reports are coming from Sandy Cove and east of Olcott. Looks like Sunday, weather permitting, will be our 2008 maiden voyage and kind of wondering hows the fishing out of Wilson or Olcott?
-
Come on, who cares IF there is some hard feelings between Olcott and Wilson. The money Wilson is put up benifits the fisherman and thats the way it should be. Let the politions fix their own problems. Fishing is all about having fun and when you take the fun out you only hurt yourself and the kids. This is not what we want our children to see as a tournament. Sure you fish hard to win, we all do but ya gotta have fun before the tournament, during the tournament and after the tournament. My name is Howie, my boat is Git-R-Done and I think Wilson is doing a nice thing. I like Olcott. It is well operated, clean and a nice place to launch. I take nothing away from Wilson, I use to launch there back in the 80.s. Lets have some fun and I wish everyone good luck this year. Play safe and take a kid fishing.

Thanks. I will contact Dawn tomorrow morning.

Team Git-R-Done will be there although we are staying at the Lighthouse, arriving 5/28. Our boat is docked in slip A3 in Olcott. I am looking forward in meeting the guys who kick my butt. This is our second try in the pro/am. What kind of beer you guys like? Hopefully I can meet some of you guys before the tournament. When is the Sabres tournament?

Alcoholic Beverages on-board...what is the law?
Shade replied to Draggin Ballz's topic in Open Lake Discussion
Hold on. I did not say the Captains are stupid. MY OPINION is drinking on a boat is stupid. To each their own. To many things can go wrong. Again MY OPINION. MY OPINION and $1.00 can get you a coffee and donut at seven - elevan. Fish safe, have fun and take a kid fishing. -
Alcoholic Beverages on-board...what is the law?
Shade replied to Draggin Ballz's topic in Open Lake Discussion
There is no place for alchohol on a boat. it is no different than a car. You have all kinds of time to drink after you operate your boat. The operator is responsible for the people on his boat. I do not allow drinking on my boat and I will not go on a boat where there is drinking. There are enough idiots on the water we do not need to add to the problem. I see alot of discussion on taking a boat safety course. I know they do not explain how to handle drinking during the course. It's just plain stupid. -
I tried Captgarys but he has 125 spoons charted. Some he had I had but I still have 25 I can not identify.

Multiple Dipsy's Advice - using long rods
Shade replied to momay4000's topic in Tackle and Techniques
I use 12 footers outside and 10 footers inside. I have 5' leader between dipsy and flasher and the long rod helps land the fish with long leader. -
rod/reel/line combo questions
Shade replied to chowder's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
Everyone has there preference on types of poles and line they use. It's all on how much you want to spend on your gear. I use 4 -81/2 foot poles with 17 - 20 lb line for spring time on my downriggers. They are medium to light action. Two are Shamono and two are ugly sticks and I like the vanish line. I have had zerro problems with this line for the past 3 years. I have 2 - 12 foot poles that I run Steel on and 2 - 10 ft poles that I have one on lead core and one on Mono. I run the 12 footers outside and the 10 footers inside. They all work well on my boards and dipsys'. Summer I use 30lb clear on 81/2 rods off downriggers and I use the same poles in summer that i use in the spring for flat lining. Both spring and summer I run sliders as well. Of course I have a couple of poles for quick change or if I break or loose a pole which so far, knock on wood, I have not had that experiance. I have McCoy, Vanish and Cajun line on various reels as well and all my reels have counters and hold 350 - 400 yards of line. -
Thanks Bill. Good luck this season.

What about e chips flashers? Are they made to spin ? What speed do you run them at?
-
I am not the expert but I thought that the flasher moves side to side where the spin doctor and echip spins which gives you a better window with your speed. Especially with water currents and wind. Tell if I have been mis-informed but dodgers run between 1.5 - 2.5 mph where spin doctors can handle speeds between 1.5 - 3.0 mph. and even higher in rough waters.

Went to Bass Pro today. Put new line on 4 poles. No work on boat yet I pick mine up Wednesday from storage. I have to install new downriggers, new seats and speed-temp probe. Then of course but all the gear back in it, wax her up and get her down to Olcott put her in her slip.
-
I do not know how many of you are left but I went to Bass Pro today in Auburn. Cost me $400.00 and they had a seminar on western basin Salmon in Ontario. I do not want to put to much into this but some people should pratice before they step up to a stage. The guy new his stuff but did not present it very well. Anyway this was my first time at Bass and I was impressed. They seem to cary more gear for Ontarion than Gander Mountain does and their prices are really not bad. Thought I would share my day with ya. Like you this sitting and waiting for the season start is getting old quick.

I number the spoon and keep a log but for the flies A-Tom-Mik sells tubes for $.59 each. I mark each tube on the sides with the fly name and on the cap on mark the manufacture. I also purchased plastic containers from the dollor store. For $2.00 you can fit about 28 flies in each container. School your crew to change the lure and put it where it belongs.

I have a Thompson 210 Fisherman and this will be our 4th year. 1st year we fished Lake Erie. This will be our 3rd in Ontario. I really like the boat it's a little tight when running 8 poles. We removed the old seats a put 2 new ones in. I troll it down to 1.5 without bags and we get about 2 gallons per hour. She gets up there around 34 cruises nice at 30 and really not bad in rough water, however i am not a big fan of to rough of water anyway. We were going to upgrade this year but my accident put us back a year. Every boat has its own personallity but it is how you treat it that counts. A little TLC goes a long way.
-
Ray, Where did you purchase these spoons?
-
Shawn, Thanks but like I said this was not a simpathy letter. Like your brother I intend to fish one way or another. The other sports are out but I will be damned if I am not on a boat. My son and I have hunted, fished, camped and played golf since he was a kid. Once I get through all this red tape with Social security and my retirement plan my son and I will do one or two out of state where they can cater to my disability. Even if it to just drive the boat I will be on the water. My son bought a seat that can handle 4g's and we will be installing it next week. Thanks for the reply and hope to seeya sometime. Good luck and fish safe.
-
Thanks Ray for the invite and I look forward for a day on the lake with you. My son bought me a seat that he found on the internet that will take an impact up to 4g's and we are putting it in the boat next week. I have excepted the fact that I may not have the strength to land a fish but I hope I can handle running the boat. I will be on channel 68 and we have a dock at Olcott for the season. My email is h_nola@yahoo.com, my cell # 716-704-9242 and my boat is Git-R-Done. If your looking for an extra two poles to run get ahold of me my calender is wide open this year. God bless and have a safe season.
