  1. TraxTech is sold, Big Jon setup still for sale... thanks for looking AC Holmes
  2. In reply to breaking up the TraxTech package...I don't want to do that because I will be left with some bits and pieces that will be difficult to sell. I am located in Burdett, NY, 5 miles North of Watkins Glen on rte. 414 on the East side of Seneca Lake.

Thanks for looking, Andrew Holmes %7BfileStore.core_Attachment%7D/monthly_09_2013/post-141682-0-26480900-1378136733_thumb.jpg %7BfileStore.core_Attachment%7D/monthly_09_2013/post-141682-0-87810400-1378137065_thumb.jpg
  4. The riggers are still for sale...call me if you wish...831-241-8018 Andrew
  5. There are some guys on their way here to take a peek this AM...I told them I would wait until they get here before I consider other interested parties. I will update as soon as they decide. thanks, Andrew Holmes
  6. I have given up my charter business due to health issues, sold the boat and am now offering the gear that was installed... and am offering the following as a package and don't want to break it up. 1) Two Cannon Digi-Troll 10 TS downriggers. They are almost new and have one seasons use. Some very minor evidence of having been fished. 2) 2 stainless spools and 2 plastic spools. Stainless are loaded with wire and plastic is loaded with coated wire 3) Cannon dual axis rod holders 4) covers 5) swivel bases and all mounting hardware and bolts 6) two transducers (one never used) for Digi-Troll bottom tracking and up/down cycle 7) cable for linking the riggers together to work with one transducer 3 Intell-troll probes (one monitor) that all work perfectly and provide speed and temp on the rigger screen. 9) 2 dozen Cannon terminators and other Cannon odds and ends. $1800 for all of it. I used a 50% reduction from current retail to arrive at this price. I also have the original packaging and can do credit cards if a buyer wants it shipped on your dime. I caught a lot of fish with the cycling mode...bait fish do not swim at the same depth, so why should a lure not go up and down while going forward? I really got addicted to the probe read out on the rigger so I bought 3 of them when Cannon stopped offering the unit. I know some have had problems with the Intelli-Probe but I never did...they worked fine for me. I think the issue had to do with the boat being properly grounded. thanks for looking, AC Holmes
  7. I had some folks out last summer on the south end and we drifted on the N wind along shore with spinning rods. We caught 3 big perch on a tiny "flatfish" yellow with red dots, and also caught a nice Brown off the bottom with a day glow green rubber worm. Another day I caught a small salmon and a big perch on the downrigger right in front of the canal, on a small silver flutter spoon. We had both fish for dinner, and the perch was much better to eat for sure. Lots of different ways of fishing Seneca.
  8. Thanks for asking, The 9.9 has an ignition key and an alternator, no tiller...steering tube for cable, gas tank and nearly new marine battery included...
  9. Thanks for looking, The motor is in my garage in Burdett, NY (5 miles from Watkins Glen). The motor is like new and is a wonderful piece of engineering...Honda outboards are hard to beat in my estimation, but a little pricey. Save $2000 on this one...my loss...your gain...I have no further use for it. Regarding the stick steering setup...It is basically a cable steering device with a stick instead of a wheel (used a lot in the South) I liked it a lot...worked great. I chose it because I kept my charter boat in a crowded marina and the 350 was real loud without mufflers, so I had to have a way of getting in and out of the marina before sunrise without waking everybody up, if I wanted to keep my slip. Also, the single screw on the inboard was tricky to back up, etc, etc. There is no easy way of linking the rudder cable steering to a kicker on a inboard, so I went for a totally separate steering system. The hookup to the engine steering tube is totally standard.
  10. This is a Honda 9.9, long shaft, tilt trim with controls and cable, with less than 10 hours use. The package was invoiced to me in May of 2011 for $4987 dollars from Jamison Marine in Campbell NY. I installed it on my charter boat as a kicker, but once the 350 got broken in, I did not need the kicker to troll at 2 MPH. I have since sold my charter boat and given up my USCG papers. $3000 for the three items or... 1) Motor....$2750 Hi Thrust bracket and back up plate for swim platform from Adventure Marine, invoiced for $423.00.... 2) bracket and plate....$200 E-Z glide stick steering, about $500 new... 3) E-Z glide...$250
  11. Maybe the abrupt temp change changes the O2 level somehow and that's what kills the fish.
  12. I have 3 new probes (all working fine) and 2, one year old digitrols (whiite model with extra spools) with swivel bases...PM me if interested...I am out of business with chartering and am starting to unload a ton of equipment.
  13. Was at the marina today at the south end, and saw quite a few dead fish on the bottom...lots of really big perch...like the ones we are always trying to catch, and a few bass and trout in the 12 inch range. I saw 15 or 20 fish right around my dock in about 5 feet of water.
  14. Jason is correct, I regret giving up my Furuno...it was flawless. I had it set up as shoot through with an Airmar transducer glued inside the hull, and could run wide open and see what was under the boat just as well as when trolling at 2 MPH.
  15. Same unit, same problem...firmware upgrade helped somewhat, but still drives me crazy.
  16. Hi ERRABIT, I have the same unit and it does the exact same thing as you describe. I updated the firmware from the website and it is much better now, but still does the glitch 0-2 feet bottom once or twice each trip on the water. I have tried everything mentioned above, and now believe it is a software/firmware issue, because it is better after the upgrade. Before the upgrade, I lost the surface temp read but now that is steady and accurate. The company must know about the problem and will probably get it fixed, so regular upgrades to the firmware may eventually fix it. It is a great piece of equipment apart from the issue mentioned. I just turn it off and reboot, but it is a pain in the butt. I am in the software business, so I know about the reluctance of admitting a problem to the end user...it can lead to a business disaster, so we offer upgrades and talk about "bug fixes" instead.
  17. It is with regret that I will be selling my boat and business. I cannot keep up with USCG license requirements due to health issues. I finally acquired the boat that I always wanted, and fitting her out with no expense spared. The boat is a 2006 Eastern 27, with a 350 inboard and a Honda 9.9 kicker. The boat was essentially new 2 years ago when I bought her in NH from an older gentleman who had her custom built and kept the boat in his boat house. There was 52 hours on the engine when I bought her. Currently, there is 143 hours on the big motor and maybe 40 or so on the Honda. I had planned to ship the boat back to the builder, as he was confident he could sell her at a good price this season. Before I do that, I wanted to explore the possibility on this thread of someone who might be interested in the whole package, including too much tackle and details to mention easily. The offering includes a permanent slip in front of the new Hotel in Watkins Glen, paid up for this year and available for the future if wanted. The deal includes a heavy duty trailer if the slip is not needed or wanted. I had more charter business than I wanted in the last 2 years with the hotel location. A small sign on the boat brought in a steady stream of inquires. I did as many sightseeing tours as fishing trips and met a lot of very nice people from all over the world who were at the Hotel. At the hotel site you would not need a web site or any advertising at all...folks walking around on the waterfront see the sign and call on their cell...too easy! I am at 50K for the package, and would be pleased to connect with any interested parties. There really is too much involved with the boat and business to explain on the classified site. I have attached one photo of "Tara Too" taken yesterday for a quick overview and would be pleased to talk to anyone who had a serious interest in possibilities. I talked to the builder yesterday and the replacement cost on the boat is 110K this year. I have put another 10K easy into the boat with add ons and trolling gear...it is a very good boat and the motor is strong. Everything works perfectly. I have 100s of photos of the building of this boat and lots and lots details about the way she is fitted out. PM me if you wish and I would be pleased to talk to anyone serious about the package. cheers, Capt AC Holmes
  18. More on the probe... I got the newest cannon riggers and opted for the latest cannon probe, which is now obsolete. I don't know why they stopped making it because it seems to have solved the problems with the earlier model. I have three of the units in the box, which will maybe last as long as I need it. It is a fabulous system for tracking bottom and for cycling the rigger up and down...works great. I also have a spare "cannon link" set up which can be controlled from the screen that I no longer use...it's easier for me to use the digital screen on the rigger.
  19. Sorry...I misstated my case. It's not the Humminbird... I think the problem for me is the fact that I went to 2 transom mount transducers because I decided on the side scan. The main transducer frequency escapes my memory, but the transducer that the probe reads is 125mz. It seems to be OK now, after upgrading the firmware, but when waves are from behind, I lose the bottom signal from the splashing action at the transducer. Not the fault of the Humminbird. The unit is fine with a very good screen and the nav features are excellent. I can build a course according to depth contours and download to the autohelm. Too easy...fish don't have a chance. I would have never settled for transom mount, but no other choice for side scan technology when I bought my unit. Sorry about blaming the Humminbird...it's all about transom mout.
  20. Even different frequencies can conflict. It depends on what they are. It's complicated and even Humminbird tech does not know what's what. I have a top end Humminbird now, and a second transducer for my Cannon probe, and deeply regret giving up my Furuno system. Hummingbird stuff is all screwed up in my opinion, but it does help some to upgrade the firmware from their web site. Furuno is the best...actually works predictably if you have through hull or shoot thru transducer. Transom mount is a compromise and difficult to make work under all conditions, in my experience. Live and learn....
  21. Pulling copper with a Pflueger #4 (we always put on a #5 hook) directly to the wire (no leader) is a highly effective way of Lake Trout fishing on Seneca. I think there is something about the wire and the spoon hammering the bottom (maybe an electrical pulse) that catches lots of fish. Lake trout are bottom fish mostly and the copper rig fishes the actual bottom. I have been thinking that the way we fish these days with dipseys and riggers, does not really dig up the bottom the way copper does, and I also believe the biggest fish lay on the bottom and wait for food...they do not move around much because they are so big and fat. I know some of the Ontario Lakers have their nose all beat up digging around for sculpin on the bottom. So then, where I am going with this post is as follows: how big do Seneca Lake "Lakers" get these days? Maybe we don't know too much about that anymore, because we do not fish in their environment. There is no rational reason why Seneca does not support real big Lakers, like in the 20-30 pound range. Maybe the way to win the Lake Trout Derby is to pull copper with a Pflueger #4. I think if somebody went real slow pulling copper on the bottom in 100-150 feet of water, and actually worked at it, some big surprises might be in store. By jeepers, I have talked myself into it. I am going to dig out my copper rig and #4s and give it a try sometime soon.
