  1. What size split shot do you run in front of the stick baits (if any)? I know I ran a few last yr but I don't remember how big the shot was. Thanks for any help. Spike
  2. I used the double uni-knot this yr and it seems to be holding well. Spike
  3. X2. I had (2) 18's on my 18 Lund with about the same results as above. I was nowhere near 4mph at idle either (2.2 at idle). Spike
  4. Thanks for that. So I'm guessing if I got blown off the big lake trolling stickbaits at Onieda would be a no-no? Spike
  5. Looking at the regs for each species I see that black bass are catch and release artificial bait only until 3rd week in June. With Walleye they just say the season starts the first Saturday in May. Can you catch and release walleye before then or are you prohibitted from fishing for them. If prohibitted what prevents you from catching them incidentally when fishing for other species? Thanks, Spike
  6. Walmart it is then........ Thanks, Spike
  7. Good to hear. Heading out Thursday, a skunk report would have been a bummer. Spike
  8. We always got them at Wrights. Guess I'll give them a call tomorrow. Thanks, Spike
  9. Heading up Thursday early to Oswego. Does anyone know if Wrights is open yet and are they still selling fishing licenses? If they aren't what are my options? Only other place I know of in town is Larry's and he never seems to be open early season when we go by. Thanks, Spike
  10. Probably wont stay dry in the bottom of your boat. At least every boat I owned below deck didn't stay dry, mostly due to condensation. I use a west marine bag for storing my PFD's and tuck it on the floor up by the helm (then again only 4 PFD's). Has velcro closure so it is easy to open, no stuck zippers like my previous one I had. Remember to keep them readily available and that is up to the discretion of any boarding officer. I know a guy that kept his wrapped in the plastic bags he bought them in....ticket.... not considered readily available. Spike
  11. Are you sure you'd run out of fuel on the 2hp in a day of fishing? I had a 7.5 yrs ago with a built in tank and I never ran out in a day. That being said I'd opt for the 6hp. Probably a quiter motor and most motors have a screw you can tighten to get the throttle to stay where it is twisted to (I'm assuming the 2hp is a one cylinder motor- which are generally louder than two cylinder motors). Spike
  12. Last August my other speed temp unit died on a trip I took to lake O. Out there I bought a X4 and installed the transducer on a piece of wood and clamped the wood to the transom to get me thru the week. This yr I want to install the transducer however I was thinking I don't want it to be installed typical, even with the bottom of the boat. While using the unit last yr it wasn't even close to the bottom of the boat and the unit worked fine, save for surface speed which is sent by the wheel on the transducer. I don't really care about that speed as I have a speed wheel and gps speed on my fish finder. Does anyone see why I shouldn't cheat the X4's transducer above the bottom of the boat so it isn't at any risk of hitting anything? My trailer has dual bunks and they are just about where I figure to mount the X4 transducer. Cheating it up would also eliminate any worry should the boat be loaded off center (supports stick out from back of boat about an inch or so). Thoughts? Spike
  13. Curious what happened to the Honda that you repowered? Kicker mount not in new pictures? How many hrs on existing motor? Spike
  14. I literally just sold three, $60 each. Spike
  15. Tim in regards to the spectra would you be able to pull the board in by hand in an emergency without it cutting into your hands? I ask because on two occasions we had to pull my boards in quickly before running the line over (hung bottom, neutral and wind). I'm not sure if I had to do it again I could using spectra. Not that I want to ever do that again. Spike
  16. Yes congrates on the win. I did much better for the first few rounds than I ever did before (probably due to upsets not my actual knowledge of the teams). Once Indiana was out I knew my chances were slim. Can't wait till next yr. Thanks again for putting this on. Spike
  17. Good to hear I'll feel comfortable knowing I'm set up right. That picture is priceless. Spike
  18. OK so typically (twice) when I come out to Lake O in the spring I bring rods set up with 10lb test line and softer rods. Reading about larger fish, specifically the 24.5 lb brown, being caught I'm thinking I may be going a little light on the line. I have rods set up for salmon (30lb BG) should I be bringing those reels instead? I believe the rods we are using are adequate but I'd hate to lose a 25 lb brown due to too light a line. Thoughts? Spike
  19. Gill-T I just set two rods up today. One with Tufline the other with Suffix. I forget which box but one of them suggested a double uniknot to tie the lead to leader. I used the same double uni backing (braided line as well) to lead core, All the knots seemed to hold up well. Only issue I had was when I tried to drop down to 6lb test to the lead core. the 6 lb broke. I went back to ten there and stepped down to 6 lb for the leader after that (that is what we use here, 6lb). One thing I didn't think of with this new covering is how it will effect my rod guides. I was winding the suffix on an Ugly stick rod and I think I saw where it looked to be wearing into the guide. I'll be keeping an eye on that. None of my core set ups have braid resistant guides. Spike
  20. Question for you guys with the Cabelas holder, does the but end of the rod rest on your floor or is it off the floor? I would like to keep the rods off the deck so as not to mar up the florring. Thanks, Spike
  21. I have the three set up on each end of a colman cube cooler. I can't open and close the window without moving the cooler and I'd like to eliminate taking that cooler which just holds the spare rods and some drinks/food. I could use a smaller one for food and drinks saving some needed space. We will be launching from Oswego or Mexico depending on where is best at that time. Spike
  22. I use the master lock version posted in a thread above. It rattles at times while trolling but not too bad. Spike
  23. Now I got to call Honda and find out why I don't get 8yrs on 3 gallons! Spike
  24. That is great to know. I'll plan on one rigger parked in the prop wash. I only have an orange doc as I read that was a good color. I have a bunch of the peanut flies. Any color recommendation there? Thanks, I love this site. So much help and no attitudes. This site and the fisherman I have run into out in NY are some of the most helpful I have ever run into. Spike
