I basically trailer the boat everywhere.  I troll browns in the spring at Ontario (3 1/2hrs), Jig Perch Laker late spring in Lake George (1 1/2hrs). Bass fish and troll walleyes at a bunch of lakes in between.  Fish Stripers on the Hudson in May.

Right now from what I have seen I really Like the Lund Impact 1875 with the 150 Pro XS.  Something like the Striper Fiberglass boat I really don't think would fit my needs as much.  If I primarily just trolled big water than yes it would but Honestly I primarily just troll browns in the spring and walleyes sometimes.  I do a lot of vertical jigging and casting as well using a bow mount trolling motor which I wouldn't have on that striper.

The Lund Impact, Alumacraft Trophy and Crestiner Fish Hawk all look sweet though, it's tough to make the decision.  Like I was saying before and no one commented...What about these fiberglass boats like the ranger 1880MS? These boats look like they have all the options of the Aluminums and I would think they offer a better ride.  Anyone ever been in one?

I'll give you this.  I had a Starweld 18 Pro and went to a Fishmaster 196.  I fished for years in a 23 sportcraft with my father.  It was a big boat.  Time passed, I started back with aluminum but wanted bigger but knew i had a line on how much effort to deal with a glass boat in size from towing ease to launching etc.   I like the extra width and higher freeboard which took me where I went and i like the aluminum lower weight and ease IMO of launching and traveling with less weight, better fuel economy etc.  I fish by myself sometimes which was a factor for me.   I'd rather a glass boat for displacement when fishing in rougher waters and issues of an aluminum in potential corrosion issues and inlayed wood floor "wet" issues.  Alumacraft and Crestliner are top brands...Lund is too and perhaps better resale from name but I don't know if its a lot.  Crestliners especially seem well thought of.  I feel like Lund likes themselves a bit much (IMO) hence the price. I keep my boat dry as a bone and don't plan to keep it in the water for any length of time.  I feel like their quality has deminished from their original times.  If you stay aluminum, this is a layout (and admittedly price) issue again IMO.  Aluminum wise I would like some full aluminum boats like west coast designs and some Crestliners but that comes with cost.  If new, how will you treat it?  If used, how was it treated...will you know, will you worry? No wrong answers

Got it figured out. As I said in original post i put new lift motor in and worked for a couple seconds and quit.  Theres a second inline fuze and fuze was popped.  Put a new one in and worked a few seconds goin down then popped again.  After pullin my hair out I realized the drive wasnt all the way down. The clocking wasn’t right. The motor was maxing out when outdrive was halfway down therfore blowin the fuze .  I pulled motor out and spun the inside up a few rotations and now its not popping fuses and goes all the way up and all the way down till light goes out without a hitch.
Thank you fellas for all your imput.
    much appreciated

I think the old boat was just jealous of the new boat.  Some girlfriends don't go away quietly.

  3. What I find interesting is that Ontario is showing itself to be a matter of inches below average and all these launches and harbors are too low to get boats into/out of.  Somebody explain.
I agree. in a post above someone said the lake has to come at least 2 to 3 ft.b last year it was 2 ft higher than it is at this same time frame based on IJC charts and people were concerned that a flood was coming again

I looked at it on Saturday as promised....all good.

No docks and low water but usable.

Good luck out there this year!

Not really low....true 6-8" low of normal "average" but I think we got so use to high that average is low now lol.

I had to learn this the hardway Kevin. Lost 400ft and 300ft of copper on the rods. But managed to handline a 24lb king to the boat.  The wife took video of the nonsense:lol:

Ouch!  Not sure which hurt worse, the gear loss or hand lining a 24lber.  I have tanglephobia for sure.  I always think about it...too much.  Its right up there with thatdickheadisgonnatrollovermylinephobia....another mind torture lol.   Good info from both of you to set me straight!

This is a battle ive been fighting in my head. I think logics. That 400 copper is deeper then the 300.  Therfore if u have 400 on outside, he strikes he deeper then inside rod. Therfore u bring him to down the chute he will be below ur inside rod.  Had a mess two years ago runnin copper this way.

Spring time with mono lines, yes u want ur longer lines to the outside so they can get around the shorter lines on the inside while u bring them into the chute.

@Hachimo....I retract my prior statement in light of @Rich Dcomments.   Good info and really I'm too much of a wimp to run two coppers on the same side lol.

Teams will occasionally post on here and FB looking for observers... some even offer to pay you for doing it. Not much usually like $100 but can't argue with getting paid to go fishing!

Yeah I got paid $100 each time and told each team I didn't want the money but they paid me anyway.  These guys are really into it!     I realized the second time I wanted to give my opinion too much and that I needed to shut up lol.... I wanted to be in my boat even more!  Good luck @hookedupf7you'll like it.  Of course that $100 immediately was spent on gear because its a sickness lol.

I run inline boards all year. Two on each side. For example. I’ll run 400’ on inside boards then a 300’ on outside.
“For The Love of Copper” by legacy is a great read. read it a couple years ago. Gonna read it again for a refresher:lol:

@HachimoIf your running 2 copper per side, put the 400 on the outside and 300 on the inside as it will tend to avoid tangles as the outside 400' hooked fish drops back and "tends" to head toward center of the pattern and the 400 will go "over" the 300.

  9. @hookedupf7I did it twice. It was interesting but not something I think I'll do again.  I saw good and less good and the data was interesting but not as much as I had hoped and in some ways that was good too.  A good experience regardless and teams I was involved with were very good natured.  @Legacyis right.  The organizers have last minute scrambles to help teams with observer needs.  I did the Atomik Invitational in Oswego both times so if you want east end I know they have a list. but probably not until closer to the event.  You have time, I caught on both times a short time before the event once from a team posting looking for assistance and once from the organizer who I recall also posted similarly.  The Atomik Invitational is Early August-ish.

We are going to fish copper for the fist time this spring and fall.  My question is how much backing beyond the copper do you let out in order to achieve the target depth?  If you let more out will it go lower?

yes....and taking turns will lower it too.   I found bottom twice this past year in 100-110 ft of water on a 400 copper off of a church Tx44 with copper not far back from the board.   this was enlightening.

  11. I would expect it could be brought on in part from netting and handling and related removal of protective slime....seeing the head and in front of the tail make me suspicious of slime removal.  Not that it is anyone's intentional fault, rather just a potential consequence.  The less handling the better when possible but more a consequence of a popular fishery than anything else.  Some fish are caught more than others.

  12. Hey so to the OP. I have 4 that are small. 2 blaze orange with black diamonds, a silver /blue and a glow with green. Just curious. How bad do you want them? Respectfull question completely. Still curious about your interest to see what you use the for but i realized i cant part with them. Remembered my dad took a big king on one if the orange ones on a free slider of all things (after i suggested he do that when i couldn't go out that day). I totally and sincerely appreciate the random recall you created....which i thank you for a lot!
