  1. A friend of mine is thinking about adding a chute rigger on his stern drive Striper. Any thoughts on this? It seems like the prop and downrigger cable would be dangerously close to me.
  2. Congrats! That is an amazing day!!! First weekend in May for us, can't wait to get on the water again.
  3. Vetting, Spoke with Raymarine Tech and was advised that it was just to make it easier to torque the nuts. Seems like they should include that as a foot note. It really does not matter. Eric
  4. Thanks Dan, Hopefully we will have some clarification before we are ready to power up. Can't wait to get back on the water!
  5. Started my install today and I have a question on the Smartpilot X-5R Drive. I held the wheel to starboard lock and tied the stern drive off. Drilled the torque restraint as directed. Where I get lost is installing the drive. I had to roll the drive up to align the woodruff key and steering shaft and then rotate the unit down to connect to the torque restraint. The directions did not seem very clear on this part of the install and I do not want to damage the unit. It just seems to me that you would install the drive with the stern drive centered. I'm probably missing something simple but I thought it would be better to ask. I know many members have recently purchased this unit and have probably successfully installed them already. Thanks for the help, Eric

  9. Brings back fond memories of the sea run browns and char we fished for when I was stationed in Iceland. What a fishery!
  10. Thanks E, I think the wheel drives are the same. I never imagined they would produce much noise. Tight lines, Eric

  19. Thanks for the feedback vetting.
  20. I was considering buying this unit but It appears they are no longer manufactured. Does anyone have any experience with these units? I have a cable steered Islander with no kicker so this looked like a good way to go.
  21. Tune-up, fuel treatment and consider installing a 4 blade prop with less pitch if he has a 3 blade prop on it. You lose some top end but it allows your motor to run at higher rpm's at trolling speed with more control. Worked wonders on my Islander 191V.
  22. Thanks for the help guys. We will give it a try.
  23. I have a problem with water pooling up in the rear corners under the batteries. I'm wondering what the best solution is to get it to flow into the bilge. Thanks, Eric
