  1. Ok so My islander has been running alittle rough as whe nI bought it it had 25 gallons of year old untreated fuel in it. I topped it off and added the correct amount of Star Tron. I have run it twice and it still runs alittle rough but not bad. Was thinking about adding some Marvel Mystery Oil to the fuel to see if that helps..I think the carbs could use a good cleaning out. What would someone recomend to do?

I also have a 15HP Johnson kicker that Ijust picked up used. Want to clean the carbs out on that as well. What would anyone recomend?

Tilt that boat as far back end down as you can and connect a hose to your fuel line . Run that hose through the plug hole and suck on it. that should get the fuel to start running out. But because you have the tank tilted you will get most of the water out of the tank.

    Go with seafoam

  2. The Yankee fleet out of Gloucester,MA usually sends a few of their head boats down to Florida to run charters there for the winter. They come highly recommended and they are relatively cheap. But they are head boats which means that you may stand shoulder to shoulder with other fisher men.

  3. Usually when you buy new bellows they come with a tube of glue .

You are supposed to clean the area that the bellows slide over and are clamped down on. Once you have cleaned that area you smear the glue (it makes me think of inner tube patching glue) onto the bellows area that is going to touch the cleaned area and let it sit for about ten minutes. Then you slide the bellows in place and clamp them down.

If you did not get the glue, then get it from your local marina.

  4. yes! they hav shut down for about 2 to 3 weeks, the strong fishy taste from what they ate has been flushed from system. And ya have the natural flavor of the salmon now...BUT YOU CANT CATCH A FISH AT 6AM KEEP IT DEAD IN 70 DEG WATER AND SUN THEN DRAG IT THROUGH THE MUD AND HAVE A GOOD MEAL KINDA THE OPPISITE.............

If you bleed it and put it to a cooler of ice ASAP..and clean proper, you will be surprised at the quality of taste....the 10lbrs are still the fish to target also....

Way to go! That goes for any fish!!

  5. Once the lake turned over I moved out to 300-to 500 fow, the fish were scattered all over so you had to run boards divers and riggers to find the fish but youcould still get a desent box. never pulled the boat out till Nov.Theres nothing like a calm day in Oct. out on the lake away from the crowds. Don't go out there alone with out a radio and a kicker or twin engines, you will be all alone out there. :o

Same here. There are some Cohos out there now.

Last year my last trip was after thanks giving. In 50 feet of water there were plenty lakers ,browns and a lot of smallmouth bass.

  6. Thank you for your responses.

It is not the Fat Nancy spoon, but it is the dream weaver that BrokeOff mentions in the thread he brings up.

This spoon has been very successful for me this summer,up to the point where I became sort of attached to it.

    It is #1931 shiznitz

  7. I am looking for a very large dreamweaver spoon (magnum). It has a D and a W in black on a green back ground. I bought 2 of them last year and lost both of them last week.

Does anybody know what they are called and where they are still for sale?

    thanks,Cornelis

  8. The Gennie has zero natural reproduction. The waterfalls are impossible to pass.

But there are a lot of small creeks in the Greater Rochester area where i have witnessed salmon running up to spawn. King and Coho both mixed in with steelies and browns. Most local fly fisherman will know which creeks I am talking about. Let's leave these these fish in peace to do their thing so we can have better catches in the coming years.

  9. 2012 Orleans county facts,

I did a little research on the Orleans Pro/Am from 2011 & 2012 Team Tournament(don't say Pro/Am cause that bird has flown the coop). Here are some facts I noticed. As you can see by the payouts listed more teams made more money than ever before. Way higher entry fees and less competitors will do that for you. One of the points of the series was to grow the tournaments. That has not happened by a long shot. Here are some other facts about the Orleans Team Tournament compared to the 2011 results. The numbers are pulled from the Team Tournament website. For the Open division I counted the number of different teams entered,so if you entered both days your team was counted as 1.

    2011 Orleans

    Am Teams-16

    Pro Teams-40

    Open- 8

    Total- 64 teams

    2012 Orleans

    Am teams-0

    Pro- 32

    Open- 11

    Total-43 teams

A drop in participation of 33%.

Using the above calculations you can plainly see the level of participants has dropped significantly. Is this what was envisioned when the new format was put together. The same formula can be used for the Niagara and Oswego tournaments with similar results (Niagara 21% drop) Oswego(25% drop). All you keep hearing is "X" amount of teams received a check. It's even hard to tell who won what. Ask anybody that followed or participated in the old Pro/Ams if they remember who won in years past. I am sure a majority would be able to name teams both Pro and Am from years gone by. Try that now,you can look at the score sheets and still not know. There used to be such a sense of pride and accomplishment when competing and doing well in the old series. That has completely vanished and now as you can see by whats being posted, its all about the money. Now it's everybody wins and look at all the checks we paid out. Maybe sometimes keeping things the same could be a better option. All I know is in any business or work situation, a 33% drop in sales, production, marketshare, ect is not sustainable. The question I have is, are the Salmon Team Tournaments sustainable if the levels listed above are now the norm? I guess time and the organizers of the tournaments will have the final say. The sponsors of the Tournaments have a vested interest, they want exposure and to drive sales of the products and services they offer. Less teams equal less exposure which in turn equals less sales. Why would they continue their support when advertising and promotional dollars could be spent much more effectively elsewhere.?That's some simple math everyone can understand. I believe the tournamnets are at a "fork" in the road, which way are they gonna turn. Stayed tuned!

    I fully agree.

Some teams that participated in Oswego have already said that they will not be back next year.

  10. I have run 87 octane ethanol gas in my 1986 75 horse merc for the last 5 years without ever a spot of trouble.

If you trailer your boat you do not have the problem of a very humid environment. The hoses on your engine and the fuel lines from the tank to the engine are probably all alcohol resistant (A standard since 1992). if not, replace them(you should anyway). There are some rules for using ethanol containing gas. Always make sure that your tank is full (fuel up at the end of a trip) so there is no room for humid air in your tank. Also, every third tank dump some sea foam fuel stabilizer in your tank. It will stabilize the fuel, clean out your carburetors/injectors and it will remove carbon build up.

All of this worked for me like a dream, but I have a metal 20 gallon tank. If you have a fiber glass tank (in some older boats),the alcohol may dissolve the seams and it will loosen up all the dirt in your tank.

If you have six gallon tanks you can freely use ethanol containing fuel, just make sure not to let fuel sit in your tank for long times

  11. Sorry, you are barking up the wrong tree.

The Asian carp is a matter that is in the hands of Illinois. It is not a federal matter and as such, the feds have very little authority. If you want to talk to the people stopping the closing of the canal in Chicago, you should talk to the big barge transport companies (you know who big business votes for). These companies could not care less about our precious ecosystem in the lakes. They care about money.

Sorry but you are wrong to point your finger at Obama on this one.

  12. Heck,I too am proud to be an American and I don't believe in Jesus although you might consider me to be a relative of his.

As for Romney for president. If it happens, it will be great for all you millionaires. As for the rest of us, we had better get ready to help you millionaires get a lot richer over our backs.

  13. Yes. I bought one online and then found them at Narby's in Oak Orchard for less than the online price.

I changed the tips to twili tips and they are now my favorite dipsy and copper rods. I know that they are not very high end,but what they give me for less than $30 a piece is a lot of fishing rod per dollar paid

  14. I trolled Owasco lake last Saturday and Sunday. I mostly run one rigger at 70 and one at 90 with one 8 color and a 10 color leadcore off the boards. As always the best fishing for me is from the boy scout camp (eastside) north for about 2 miles on both sides and this goes on both sides and in the middle.

the riggers got the lakers and the leadcore gets the browns.

I zig zag a lot to get the leadcore to run faster than the rigger lines.

    Good luck

  15. Just another way of fogging the engine. Whats the cost on this? I just got a new to me outboard boat. Should I try it out?

Yes Nick it is, but that stuff seems to have a lot of additional magic, like loosening up stuck piston rings. You can pour some of it in a frozen block and 2 days later the pistons will move!

Besides,it smells like something you find in a candy store.

For your outboard I would suggest "Sea Foam" regular and "deep Creep"

The regular you can add to your fuel and it will keep the carbs and the rings clean while it also stabilizes the fuel. the deep creep you can spray into your carbs for fogging and decarbing.

Hell, why am I telling this to a diesel mechanic? You can probably teach me about it!

    Cornelis.

  16. If I could buy a 585 and stay under a thousand I would jump on it.

The more realistic and best for your money is either a good used 582 or a new furuno 620 which is similar to the 582,but with a slightly smaller screen.

Do not go cheap on the transducer,it is the most important part.
