  1. christmas sold all herb phillipsons outa 300 winnies. i get a gift card and have to wait a month to cash it in. savage cant make enough 110g's in 300 apparently. ah well. at least im only waiting for shipping now. still cant wait
  2. ooo ahhhh mines comin this spring in front of salmon river
  3. 11 foot okuma mooching rods. they are the best rods for divers and wire. stiff action keeps the divers spread out and length absorbs the shock whene a screemer tries to take the rod holder and all.
  4. this has bocome an interesting topic now becasue i KNOW gobys have made it beyond the power dams in oswego. who knows how, but stopping invasives is futile. look how far those carp made it already. or anything else for that matter. stocking could cut back to save our wallets while numbers of natural fish would take over. natural spawned fish are hardy and have less health issues anyway. as for genetics, natural selection is what occurs in the wild. that means only the biggest, fastest and smartes survive. if you want to call pacific species invasive, than focus should change to coastal brookies, lakers and atlantics. that was what thrived here before people sucked the life out of this area. natural is better. granted, i have respect for his magesty but i wouldnt be sad to see a new top runner. fish ladders, definatly.
  5. its ok musky i hear you. u say forage base would be strained? what about the gobys. 75 percent of all the browns i keep are stuffed full on gobys with no smelt, alewives or shiners. and they are just as incredibly fat as ever. so then they should stock the hell outa browns. i would love to catch a 42lb brown and slap those elated michiganians with it.
  6. i think that if the oswego river had a fish ladder, the number of salmon would double. natural reproduction would skyrocket due to spawning habitat being opened up in the oswego watershed. i understan people think that invasives would decimate other fisheries but ive caught gobys in fulton above the power dams. walleye live just fine in black river while shareing it with salmonids.who knows but sources from the early 1800s say that there was much more salmon back then than we could imagin seeing today. spawing habitats would spread out more, taking pressure off the few tribs we have to fish now. salmon and trout were always native anyway. has anyone else ever thought of that??? i dont know how my crazy mind thinks this stuff up but, im always thinkin.
  7. i have been on 2 stripers and i love them. seaswirl knows how to set em up but on the 2101 center console, the entire console came loose while coming home in 4 foot waves on oneida lake. boat was handling rough water fine then the console started to pick up while the boat was falling off the crest. costed him lots to fix. never did find out exactly what happened. never the less, boat is flawless again. the other is a 26 footer for lake ontario that my uncle owns and its a real lake tamer. absolutly love it over my trophy.
  8. downrigger rods are a little soft. dipsey rods are way to stiff. the heartland downrigger are good though, and cheep. 8.5 foot heartland downrigger rods are what i use.
  9. if its too late, i hope they let us use steel shot on em at least. #130 somthin.
  10. why so suprised?? most people are idiots. few are not. pigs dont know pigs stink man.
  11. you were putting your good lures onthe same rigger all the time. or just the luck of the draw. nothing unusual.
  12. gillt said it. these are the problems with actual wire. i like it better but my first setups were braid and they worked just fine.
  13. braid is fine. fleas are worse on downrigger mono than dipsey braid. not a big deal when your cleanin riggers anyways.
  14. my OPINION...black box is waste of money. dont need it if you have almost no voltage reading in the water. if you cannot get rid of voltage in the water, then you need it to regulate how much you have. whene i bought my boat i swore it was bad luck. then i found out how to test it and sure enough, bilge wires were touchin water and that was enough to circulate electrical current into to the water with downriggers down. fixed that and no more voltage. .002volts. whether it helped or not i dont know for sure, but im restin easy and i had a great year.
  15. where abouts in florence??? could share some good info with ya on deer and brook trout. shoot me a pm. sounds like you got your ducks in a row,
  16. good news for me, i only payed 200 bucks for it. guy didnt know it was rifled.
  17. dont get a mini 14, get the ar-15 or stick with the almighty .222 rem
  18. anybody ventureing out on oneida this weekend, chittenango creek currents shift around maple bay and billington, sometimes thins the ice half way to dunham. this is a bad time of year for that area. this area accounts for 80 percent of rescues on oneida. good fishin, c ya out there.
  19. meat is a pain in the ass and my boat stinks like herring but if you wanna catch more salmon you gotta try all kinds of stuff to see what works on your boat. experiment. if it dont work the first time try some other combo. everyone told me to use green and wait. it works but i tried experimenting and found other things that work even better for me.
  20. ill sign so i dont have to scare up some druggies just to get some rods in the water.
  21. i hope they dont invade our watershed but if they do wich is almost ineviteble, ill be happy to break out the 14 footer and the model 37 with the dead coyote shot. ray youll be invited.
  22. why waste your breath. any good hunter knows deer can avoid hunting pressure regardless of time spent. i hunted more this year than ever and i did not even shoot a buck at all. seen alot of deer just none offerd themselves up. and like the good hunters have seen, i also have noticed deer tracks up to the bird feeder in recent years. and as far as walking passed all the deer to get to deer, ha ha im notorious for that. only seen one coyote all year this year. killed more coyotes deer hunting last year than i ever seen. there is enough old guys hunting on this site to back me up here, all my father and his party said is there is more deer now than there ever was and there is nothing dwindling there numbers. as for ny not having good enough habitat and gene pool for big racks, VERY wrong. selective harvest. period
