  1. Réjean, I recieved a few emails also, being told the picture never should have been posted.I guess you pushed someone's button in Montreal! Capt. Larry
  2. Lee,The shad should be in near the mudline of the Buffalo Creek by the Homeland Security Base in the North Gap.It will most likely be a 15 to 20 mph West wind, the South end of the harbor will roll with a west wind,North end will be calmer because the winds are coming off Canadian shore.Word I got today that muskies are mixed in the bait fish on both ends of the harbor, but they have all still been closed mouth the last five days. If you do go out the North Gap to the last set of bouey's troll cross ways from the red bouey to the green bouey,30ft to 35ft drop there that holds bait fish and muskies as well. Capt. Larry
  3. The water temp has still not gotten down to 47 degrees where the gizzard shad schools would mostly move into the warmer waters behind the Harbor walls.Best bet for Saturday would be to troll the Buffalo Creek stained water area of the North Gap.Troll the drop off edge from Donley's Wall to the green bouey's around the corner to the Black Rock canal. The current pulls toward the river so you have to angle your boat to stay on the edge as you troll down the ledge.Stay in at least 21ft of depth as you troll along, after 21ft it jumps right up to 12ft and shallower quickly.I would use Jtd Depthraiders in Sucker color or Black Perch at 2.5 mph! Friday will be a better day then Saturday due to wind changes from SW to West and barometric pressure moves. Capt. Larry
  4. Réjean,What a Nice Fattie! A reliable resource from Canada tells me the measurements are legit and the Big Girl weighed 58 lbs! I hope you don't mind that I posted the picture over on my message board as well. Capt. Larry
  5. Chad,You will be ok in behind the break walls up to 20 mph winds, except NW direction that goes right down the Harbor.I've caught most Big Girl's between 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. Capt. Larry
  6. Chad,The 30th of November always gives up some Big Girl's,but becareful 60% of the time the winds are over 35 mph out of the West or SW as well.Make sure you make a couple trolling passes up Buffalo Creek from the Homeland Security Base to the Vietnam Memorial.Stay in the middle of the channel lures down 20ft at 2.5 mph.If you hook gizzard shad work the area for a long time. Do not go past the Vietnam Memorial or where it widens and turns, many snags in shallower water! Good Luck on The 30th! Capt. Larry
  7. I would like to thank all Veteran's for every day of freedom I enjoy. The sacrafice and pain that they encountered in protecting our Freedom will not go in vain.Veteran's were willing to step up to the plate, deploy to all parts of the world and go into battle so that our Old Glory can fly stanchly over the greatest country in the world, the U.S.A.! As a U.S.Marine Veteran of Vietnam this day brings back memories of the hard reality of that war, remembering those who died next to you incountry makes for a tough day. Then yesterday was a day to remember Chesty Puller and the Birthday of the U.S.M.C.. Semper Fi to all Marine Vets! SGT Larry D. Jones U.S.M.C. 1967--1972
  8. Riley, You don't have to worry about me,I'm in the lazyboy healing from surgery,I won't give up the spot! Capt. Larry
  9. Very Nice Tiger! Heh the red background doesn't hide anything, there is only one section of the river with that shoreline. Look out for the big rock as you drift downstream.
  10. Nice website,Mike needed this great upgrade! This will help him get many more bookings for 2010.Mike had a very good season and put his clients on many nice fish. Capt. Larry D. Jones Repeatability Is 90% Of The Hunt! www.mostlymuskies.com
  11. A lot of fish sizes were exagerated in the past, some even are today! The muskie was caught in a net,was not officaly weighed and is not listed in any other offical publication varifying its catch. Then looking at genetics of the Chautauqua Strain Muskie according to Dr. John Cassleman their overall legnth is 54".I could see one possibly stretching past 54" to maybe 57 inches, but to get 65 to 70 lbs from a fish that geneticly should top out at 54 inches is nearly impossible.I would say that the story was fabricated. We had Chautauqua Strain Muskies stocked in the Niagara River back in 1972 by the Canadians. Those fish were barred and never reached over 50 inches, but there has been a 56" X 29" Great Lakes Spotted Muskie caught & released. Capt. Larry D. Jones Repeatability Is 90% Of The Hunt! http://www.mostlymuskies.com
  12. I find it hard to believe that a Chautauqua Strain Muskie could get to 70 inches.According to what I read from a report from Dr. John Cassleman that Chautauqua Strain Muskies top out at 54 inches. Now if the Strain was Riveriene / Great Lakes Spotted Muskies I could believe maybe a rare muskie to 61",only because 60 inchers have been caught! 13. Chad,It took a while to track down information on Chautauqua Lake's Biggest Muskie.Ron K. getting info from Pat Cory and Waren Berry and looking at a very old book that verified their findings they found what they believe is the biggest muskie recorded from Chautauqua Lake. The angler was Bernie Anderson the Outlet bait shop dealer and hunter, trader ,trapper, beaver pelt flesher, story and poem reciter, soft shell crab catcher extraordinaire and his Chautauqua Muskie was 54" at 46 lbs. The mount hung on the wall at the old Beechwood Restaurant for years. Many thanks to Ron K. for doing all the reserch to find out for us. Capt. Larry D. 14. Over on the Alleghany Guide Service Message Board there has been discussion on taking Veteran's Muskie Fishing in July or August on Chautauqua Lake from Long Point State Park. We are going to need to come up with a catchy, cool title for this DAV event to be used on the radio/newspaper advertisements. (Operation Musky is already being used by the gang in Minnesota.) Even if you are not going to volunteer your boat services, please submit an idea for the title. Thanks! Red & Charlie I have a thread on my message board at www.mostlymuskies.com/reports.htm where you can post your choices for the Title for the Veteran's Muskie Outing or you can post them here! __________________ Mostly Muskies Charters & Guide Service Captain Larry Jones Web Site: http://www.mostlymuskies.com
  15. Old man, Congrads on a Nice Muskie catch casting the North Basin of Chautauqua! Capt. Larry
  16. Chad, I'm getting excited sitting here reading about your casting adventure and Hawg Visit! This summer the NY DEC had a trap net just to the left of the Prendergast Launch and caught a Fattie 52 to 53 incher they said was the biggest muskie they ever seen in Chautauqua Lake.I hope the one You & Mike seen is a second Big Girl, would be nice to think there are a few around! This is going to be the longest November for me not being on the water in Hawg Time! Capt. Larry
  17. Landshark,In November once the water temp on Lake Erie gets below 50 degrees the Buffalo Harbor will be stacked with Big Walleye's feeding on Gizzard Shad. We catch 30" to 33"ers trolling 14" Legend Plow's for Hawg Muskies. No one is fishing for walleyes that are stacked in the bait fish school's.The Erie County Small Boat Harbor Launch will be open till the end of November, you have to enter thru the exit gate, one pier will be in the water. 18. Chad, How did the Casting Chautauqua Trip go? Capt. Larry
  19. PizzaBoy, The area's of Donley's Wall and Homeland Security Base are up in the Buffalo Harbor, best launch for there is Erie County Small Boat Harbor off of Furhmann Blvd / NY Route 5 between Buffalo and Lackawana,NY. For the Upper Niagara River the best launch is at the Town of Tonawanda Boat Launch at River Road & Sheridan Drive. I would not use the downriggers in the Upper River until you learn the area's of depth that stay consistant without jumping up shallow quickly. The downriggers will work up in the Buffalo Harbor,10" Jake is a good offering from a ball release. Places to start Trolling are the 30 ft water from Harry's Harbor Place Restaurant over by the Black Rock Lock downstream to the Ontario Street Launch and over on trhe Canadian Shore accross from Strawberry Island below Frenchman's Creek there is a little brown colored Pump House Shed,it is deep close to shore by shed.Going up stream from the shed the bottom will jump up to 12 ft from 27 ft,angle out till the bottom depth drops to 21 ft,then turn up stream and follow the 21 ft drop edge up stream,to shalow turn out,to deep turn in,continue up to the reef just below Frenchman's Creek, angle out and slide your lures accross the backside of the reef. Casting I would start with the humpty dumps(NW corner of Strawberry Island above the sand bar,up and down pocket holes fro 3 ft to 21 ft). Over below the Ontario Street Boat Launch downstream on the corner where the bouey's turn on shore is a ship channel lineup marker, directly in front of it is the Ontario Bar,cast this area.Accross from the Tonawanda Boat Launch toward the smaller Island(Motorboat Island) below Strawberry Island there is a Yellow bouey that marks the Town of Tonawanda's winter water intake. From that bouey over to the green bouey there is a distinct drop off edge with current flow over that hold fish. Then accross the river at the warm water out flow from the Huntley Power Station can be good casting as well.Back over on the West River the beach in front of Beaver Island State Park on a sunny day warmed sand will radiate heat down into the sand bottom waters and draw in bait fish and feeding muskies.Just below the beach at the Marina entrance is a reef that runs out at an upstream angle,14 to 16 ft behind and 12 ft up on the reef, runs out half way accross the river(up stream looking at Strawberry Island a large Radio Antena will line up with the tip of the Island)this is the drop ponit at 21 ft.. Going down stream you will drift past a little grass field with a small pine tree, about 50 yards below this there is a slot of 14 ft water that goes toward shore and jumps up to 7 ft above and below, the slot goes out to 25 ft of water at the upper slot just above the Ship Yards(big marina on Canadian Shore) always holds muskies in this slot. You can get the best Navigation Chart of the Upper Niagara River from West Marine on Niagara Falls Blvd or on Niagara Street over by Harry's Harbor Place Restaurant in Riverside,NY. Capt. 20. Just remember that a trip to the Buffalo Harbor could mean a vist to your boat by a Hawg Slob Muskie over 50 lbs this time of the season. I would rather spend the day trying for a Fattie in the Harbor then possibly going fishless at Chautauqua for smaller muskies this late into fall.Get those Legend Perchbait's out and go slow troll structure in the Buffalo Harbor! 21. NitroMusky,That is very kind of you to offer to take Vince out on his boat on Conesus for Tigers.I will email Vince and pass it by him and email you his phone number soon. Wait till you see all the Custom Lures in Vince's home shop and his Stud Dawg Spinner,Glitter **** Spinner and Glitter Puppy Spinner. By the way Vince likes to eat a first class meal after fishing, get ready for good eats as well! Thanks,Capt. Larry
  22. My friend Vince from Vince's Spinner Shop in Stanford,NY has been trying to get the Tiger program down there on Conesus, but so far he has many hours on the water and no Tigers. He has tried deep trolling, shallow trolling and casting but nothing so far. They have marked lots of bait fish and many bigger hooks mixed in,but can't trigger a strike. I myself can not go on the water now because of surgery a few days back,so I can't help him.If anyone that fishes Tigers there would like to help me out by going with Vince on his 21' Boston Whaler for a day and give him a little insight of what the program is there give me an email at [email protected] The person that takes Vince on his boat will get a day on the water at Chautauqua Lake with me next year! 23. Latest reports from Chautauqua have been all Casting success in the North Basin. Using Ed Lationo 8",Leo Jerk 9",Newman Jerk 9" or Suick 9" in Black colors at weed edges and drop off edges. Muskies were caught at Mission Meadows,Dewittville Bay,Hatfield Bay,Mayville Flats and by Prendergast Creek/Snug Harbor Channel. Its been a jerkbait bite all week from the reports I've recieved. 24. Looks like a Great Lakes Spotted Muskie to me as well! I hope it was released, sizelimit is 48"in Lower Niagara! Capt. Larry D. Jones Repeatability Is 90% Of The Hunt! http://www.mostlymuskies.com
  25. Since I'm stuck at home on the mend, that may take weeks,I might as well try to help when I can. One other good spot to be casting black Suicks or Vince's Spinner Shop StudDawg's in black skirt with half nickel & brass blades is in the slot in Hatfield Bay to the right side of the Mayville Flats. The deep slot starts at Chautauqua point at 38 ft of water and tapers back into Hatfield Bay at 11 ft. Was full of bait fish two weeks ago. Also coming from Chautauqua Point troll the edge at 21 ft all the way past the Condo's sloping up to the 14 ft.. Capt. Larry D.
