  1. Look up easy hook removal and there are several videos showing the technique. I had to modify by tying off heavy braid and yanking my hand with hook downward while depressing the barb. Same basic idea.
  2. Got off to a bad start early this morning when I drove a treble hook into my finger past the barb while organizing my boat. I was able to wrap some heavy braid on the hook and depress the barb and it popped right out with first tug. Fishing started slow but ended up with my limit.
  3. I tried the same with a 25” SLR walleye. Not as distinct as ProT but I think 13-14 years.
  4. Tested positive for Covid on Thursday so I’ve been laying low isolating. I got up this morning and grabbed a quick limit in spite of some coughing. At least I’m starting to feel better.
  5. Downriggers will work but difficult if you don’t really know the area. I don’t think planners would be a good idea as drop offs are pretty sharp and also have to deal with floating weeds. Perhaps heavy snap weights might get you to desired depth. Tough to get stick baits deep enough without weight although sometimes they can be caught in 18-25 fow at night.
  6. I’ve been catching some huge bass but release them as I have plenty of walleyes and perch to eat. mosquitos can be bad in the evening without wind. Less so in early morning.
  7. Mostly 30-35 fow but during the day deep jigging in 80-100.
  8. Up early and done early this morning. Another beautiful morning on the river.
  9. Took a couple friends this morning early! We caught 4 and dropped 1. The SW wind had the current really ripping.
  10. Picked up 2 walleyes and released a nice bass. Couldn’t find my third walleye this morning.
  11. You might be able to get some bait in a minnow trap but dipping in the river would be tough and with certified bait regulations I’d get it at the bait store.
  12. Try walleyes along breaks in 30-40 fow where there is current. I fish mostly at night.
  13. Out solo early this morning and got a couple great fish . One 10.3 and the other 8.2. Going to be a while before Ranger can handle these but he did catch his first fish yesterday.
  14. The last 5 days are a great representation of why I love living where I do. June 11th I fished the river and we caught 6 nice pike. June 12th I fished Stony light and we caught 7 browns trout and 4 cisco. June 13th I canned 7 pints of brown trout and smoked the cisco. June 14 I fished the SLR solo and caught 3 walleyes. June 15th I fished with Prof T and we caught our limit of smallmouth. We kept the smaller ones and realease a bunch of big ones. Not many places you can do this in less than an hours drive from home. What a great week!!!!
  15. Bill Saiffe just posted a report on his Facebook page.
  16. I canned 7 pints of brown trout yesterday and smoked a batch of cisco today. They all came out very good.
  17. Had another successful day out of Stony today. It was a slow pick but we ended the day with a decent catch of fish. Incidentally I grilled some browns, smoke a cisco, and fried some pike we caught on the river yesterday. What a feast!!!! All the fish came out delicious especially with the strawberry rhubarb pie my wife made for desert.
  18. Spent yesterday fishing with Captain Richie Clarke. The wind was tough but he was able to produce a good catch never the less.
  19. I’m fairly certain by the straight jaw this is a Cisco. We’ve been catching a few lately fishing browns. I have heard other refer to them as whitefish. I’ve saved them and am going to try them in my smoker.
  20. Went out today with another banana packed in my lunch. Ended up catching 7 browns (released 1) and 2 ciscos and a very tiny salmon.
  21. We caught 3 about a 2 weeks ago. One 12 and one 14 lbs. Fished there today and limited on browns but only one dink salmon. Hit and miss now but picks up late in the summer.
