When number are low young female will come into estrus early rather than just the Alpha female. This helps increases population. Also when population are high they have low pup numbers and when low they have many more pups. They seem to regulate their populations within an areas carrying capacity. I’m reading the book Coyote America. Very in-depth look into coyote history across the US. Quite interesting how they can actually control their population so when levels are low they produce more offspring. Even if you were able to take out 70% of the population a year their populations would be basically unaffected. Poison, bounties, trapping, hunting, and anything else we have tried hasn’t stop them from expanding their range as they are very adaptable and eat a wide variety of foods. Studies show that 60% of their diet is mice and other rodents. Author also said that while they do take some fawns and even some adults deer over time they have little affect on deer populations. I agree. I’ve caught them out of Oswego, Stony Creek, Sackets, Dexter, Chaumont, and Bay of Quinte and from Cape Vincent to Massena on the SLR. Lots of quality fish available in the Eastern End and SLR. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app

That’s a great video and shows there is an abundance of walleyes in the river. It also shows why presentation and boat control are so important in successfully fishing here due to the quick changing rocky structure they often relate to. Many areas along the channel hold fish and we regularly catch them in similar areas but finding a workable presentation without loosing lots of gear is the issue. Don’t believe you will have much success with side planer fishing the river as the bottom contour changes continually and current also must be dealt with. Boat control is critical and often you need to be right on a contour break. I have had some excellent nights with long-lining deep divers on the river in water from 15-25 feet and sometimes much deeper catching suspended fish. I have all caught them in even shallower water on longlines. Riggers and bottom bouncers as well as jigging all are go to methods on the river with the boat passing directly over the fish. Not sure if it’s the current or the ships that travel the waters that allow these methods to be effective. That said the fish often will move off the structure after 2-3 passes. When fishing Chaumont, Black River Bay, Bay of Quinte, Oswego or other regions of Lake Ontario boards definitely are a good way to go. Sat my brother Keith in afield I had scouted and had set up a blind in. He will be 76 years old in July. He also had quadruple heart bypass 2 years ago and both knees replaced since then. Very glad I could put him on a bird.Tom flew down across the field and strutted. 2 hens flew down closer to him. Tom ended up coming to 40 yards and he flattened it. No decoy and he never made a call. Guess I had him wired. I passed on a Jake at 15 yards and a Tom about 55 yards and was only about 300 yards behind my house.
