  1. Not to change the subject but here is my 2 cents.I ll run 6 jplugs one of which has 17 lb ande line on it. I have caught almost all my kings  on that one rod for some reason.Different plugs sometimes.never had a bite off which has been a problem with floracarbon(20 lb)This has been a very durable line bought the large spool over ten years now.

  2. lately I have had luck trolling with leadcore.I have two rods now set up and one more to go.I use small shadraps or spoons. So far pretty effective infinding them also.I saw quit a few bass boats sunday. They blew right by me.The guy with the aircraft carrier, lol

  3. earltwitty....looks like a nice 4-5lber. Hard work for 1 fish though. Not at all like in the day when they were as easy to catch as their smaller sunny and crappie cousins! Way to get after it though. These fish are still present. Something tells me some diligent hard work and open mindedness to working new techniques, rather than the old ones that used to work so well (just about anything!), will unlock the secret to these lately hard to get smallies. Like also to know if anyone knows of, or just are, good deeper water scuba divers who can get down there to thoroughly, visually, verify the existence of the smallie populations in the Big O south shore. Maybe camera surveys. We know they are schooling, grouping "social" fish....not loners. Where there is one there have got to be many more around. We also know they are hardy and native. And I do not think they have been over-fished for any commercial reasons. When has anyone seen large amounts of black market bass fillets for sale. I know it happens occasionally, but not to the extent it would deplete them. I keep believing they have made lifestyle adjustments.......

The dive team I talked to said the bass were deep(40 to 50 ) and around structure like wrecks. There were a few at dropoffs but most were deep.I think the few fish we spot shallow might be drum.I caught a nice one trolling for salmon the other night on a jplug.going out tomorrow morning as weather might be iffy for tuesday wensday also.

  4. the fish definitly move up and some in close to shore.I tried last night and just one large bass on a j plug. The fish do move out after 800 or so depending on sun.found alot at 60 ft.Also saw many boats down the lake working the same area I was.Good sign they are still active. All action deep was on spoons magnum black green and glow MS or just anything black worked ok(prism tape helped alot)

  5. I was out yesterday and fished a good spot. Lots of fish and hits. Most of the kings were laying on the bottom 60 ft.I said just wait till later and it would be awesome when they turn on late as usual.I waited till 530 and went back. The whole area was empty of fish. The kings come and go this time of the year and with little boat traffic it takes alot of time finding them.

The fished by me moved alot this year hardly ever the same place they were before.

  6. fished mostly west of hughes today 50 to 70 ft of water.Best action was on a mag MS black green and glow tape,i also added prism tape on the back.Caught three browns on it and finaly lost it to a king.Seems Im having trouble with the 20 lb floracarbon leaders Im using.there were alot of fish earlier on the bottom 60 to 70 .

Moved alittle deeper but saw few fish inside 135.I took a break and went out later before dusk,The screen was empthy and most of the fish had moved to unknown territory. When I pulled up I had a nice bass about 3 1/2 lbs jplug.

I was a pleasant day forsure .My friend Joe did very well out deep on steelhead and kings.

As long as the weather cooperates why pull the boat, winter is long enough.

They are going to drege the harbor starting tomorrow here.

good fishing ,perch are coming soon to sodus if not already here

  7. Very nice boat ,do you have a buyer yet. Also is it a volvo .have a friend who has a simular older model, good lake o boat.I have a 268 searay but looking more for a fishing machine I like alot of storage for my tackle and have a head and v berth.money no concern.

  8. started out the morning with a nice fish.It took alot of line out and had to turn the boat as there was no way I could bring in all that line.Turned the boat and then way off behind i saw a large fish on top rolling,Boya good king i thought.Got alittle closer and saw it wasnt a king but a big sheepshead. Its the second one I have caught now trolling with jplugsfor kings.I guess the fish weighted about maybe 12 pounds

later I moved out deeper as the bait had also moved to about 85 ft.I hit some good fish and bait at about 135 .Trolled west to the next point and had two knockoffs on my cowbells ,must be hitting the spiners I thought.

Quit early as had business Saw one other boat out near me which moved out further unkmnown his sucess.

My guess is with the nice weather I would go deep start at 200.heard good reports this week there.

Not fishing tomorrow but do hope some do and get some nice fish.

When I did get back my dog set off my downrigger and messed it up .Took two hours and not fixed.

Anyone have older cannon electrics find a shutoff switch. This has happened a few timeand was able to fix it till now.

But it was such a grand day and the mess with the downrigger was met with humor.my boat mate tasha realy enjoys the fishing and boating also.

    good fishing all

  9. It is hard to not find them there.  Most people just start out around the channel in 7-12 feet. Get close to drop off and dont crowd your neighbors and start reeling em in.   If you get on em they will hit anything.  When you get on them it is cast out or drop your line and count 1   2    3  and start reeling and you will have one.  Was out there Sat morning and it was especailly hard fishing because of the wind.   Did bring home 20-25 nice ones.   They sure tasted good :)

Great report ,cant wait  till they show up at sodus.Might bring my sea nymph to iron.though early. :)  :)  :)  :)  :)

    good fishing

    john

  10. Lots of bait from 60 to 90 ft.had many hits but a earlier start would bring more fish.Temp is very deep but I now just fish where I find bait pods marks or no marks.Salmon are higher top 45 ft.leadcore and mag frog glow got action.#3 jpug is still producing hitsgreen and silver.

I ended up 2 for 7 hits .Lots of bass deep now 50 ft.was loaded today

Hope to get out early for a better day tomorrow.

Action was better deeper acording to radio  traffic.200 to 400 kings.

We sure do have wonderful weather to enjoy for awhile.

  11. Anyone who has been on a sailboat knows how hard they are to steer compared to a motorboat. If the sailboats are undersail I would give them alot of consideration  and do everything to avoid getting close. They are a wonder to ride in .I love fishing but sometimes it just gets to much to try and find people to who want to goSailing is a very quiet time..I might even turn to do more sailing then fishing next year. One thing the guys always talk about is how little fuel they use. Some of the bigger yachts use less than 40 gallons a year, wow.

This year I was over 250 with a full tank now..

    makes you think ,

    good fishing

  12. Most people buy boats on impulse.I bought mine and paid the price.Luckly the judge ruled in my favor and the seller had to cover the repairs.Small claims court works,i got the max judgement plus interest.

If you buy any used boat,i would call a certified marine inspector and pay the few hundred. It will save you alot of uneeded  pain.

You can lead a horse to water but you can't make them drink.

  13. id love to fish erie some day for walleye and perch.Imunfortunatley messed up with a bad back.I should be either much better soon or recoperating from surgery, next year for sure. Thanks for your reply.

  14. Looking forward to coming down to seneca soon for perch.have they started yet?I heard last fall was great through the whole winter to. :)  :)

PS do you guys use floracarbon much for leaders. The water up here is probably clearer than down your way.
