  1. I still am careful about my Brook trout, but really appreciate your input and sharing knowledge. I still can't catch anything on SD, and flies, but you guys give me hope! Still can catch fish doing my micro fishing with my grandads rigs.
  2. Got out late at 12:30, started out in front of the bills boats, put down 3 Suttons silver&brass down on rig rod. hit bottom at 60ft. and ran out to 80ft. got 2, 19"& 20" lakers first. came around and hooked something big, think it was a laker but I couldn't hold him. Next was a 12" perch! Went back in by the big brick building, hit bottom ran to 80ft. got a nice brown 20". just got down and got a nice 13" perch on the 2nd spoon.put down again, and nailed a good brown finally boated him ( hook jaw) weighed 11lbs. It was 1:40 so I pulled in to the Tiki to refresh. No fleas, kept 2 browns, 1 perch. good time!
  3. out at 8:40 am from Clute. 55 - 70 feet the bait fish were so thick my ff was confused. tried jigging with blade jig, and only got saw-bellies. Trolled around about 150- 200 ft with dipsey - SD - fly out 225, down-rigger at 60ft flasher spoon, nothing. went to the west side and put out my old Seth rig with three leaders and my Sutton #44 spoons. over 70ft I banged the lead off bottom and headed out to 80ft immediately hooked a 4lb brown! As soon as I got back down another brown a little over 6lb. Seneca tour boat sees me a lot and thinks I am nuts because my boat will not stay straight when I let go of the tiller to fight a fish. put back down and had a big fish rip out a lot of line had him on for about 2 min before he got bored and left with one of the Sutton's. Found a small land lock on the top line while trying to land the big one. put down again and got a small land-lock and a 12inch rainbow on the remaining two spoons. the Tiki was just opening so went in. back out and the wind picked up from the north, so I pulled copper over 80ft with a pflueger #4 on bottom. kept getting good fish, but I could only land two 4lbers and under. 5-10 pulls and a fish would hit. got frustrated and packed up and went home. P.S. No fleas!! very little salad! Dick B.
  4. Sorry, my attempt at a joke. Iam in a very small boat. probably about the same length as Flyak. 104.9 is the best I can do on d cells. But we still love to fish!
  5. What kind of lure is a CH 68?
  6. Got the same unit, love it. every day I have to do different settings because Seneca changes so much. I can't seem to catch anything but sawbellies when jigging. help, i will buy the beer!!
  7. The boat looks good, but the bow goes down to a sharp point. it will catch and throw the boat in waves. especially if running with them. A transition to a more rounded entry would be a a lot better. the broad flat sides of the bow will act like a planer board, and will roll you. Been there done that.
  8. I use trebles so i don't put the single thru the eyes or the brain of small fish. It holds better on larger fish because there are more points to hold when one works loose. The weight of the single, and drag, are comparable to trebles if you look at the cross section and size. I actually get better action from the trebles because of the better balance with the triangle weight distributions, and drag.
  9. dipsey did nothing for me on Seneca today, went to suttons on a 3 leader rig, got 2 small land locks. drifted with the whitecaps, and pulled copper, pLuger#4 and got 2 Lakers.
  10. Hills Valleys and Streams in Elmira have all the weights for the rigs. For copper. remember 2 pulls on the oars, 3 pulls on the copper. 300ft braided copper,3ft 30lb mono, pfleuger #4 with a #5 hook. let out enough line until you feel bump, bump, on the pull. If the pull stops, hold tension for a minute and see if you slowly start moving up the lake! soon your arms will tire but don't tie off, the fish will feel something solid to pull against and break off. Be careful not to enlarge the hook hole in the fish. My Grandmother used to love watching us get taken for a boat ride up the lake.
  11. Yes I was using an old style seth green rig. it was the one that was kept for anyone who had time to go fishing at the lake. ( Keuka ) I lived on the lake during the summer with my Grandfather. Its an old penn 209 with the level wind removed, very old Dacron backing line, 30lb mainline with bead chain every 20ft. the mainline length was 80ft. a3ft piece at the end to a swivel snap for the 32oz lead. the rod is an old Olympic 8060 worm-spinning rod with the tip broken off. The leaders are 8-12lb 15-18ft mono what ever we had. Sutton spoons. I want to get a new setup, but i have not found anything to use. the old one is sensitive enough to show small Lakers dragging, strong enough to haul salmon. sorry for not answering sooner, but like looking for a new rig, I was fishing! Dick B.
  12. Went out about 1:30, launched in the canal. let down at 86 feet of water. 3 leader rig down to 70 feet landed 8 land locks from 3 - 6 lbs. lost 2 that my rig could not handle. had a BIG!! one up to the boat, and he went wild and snapped my 12lb leader like it was nothing. had one other on but he tore through my entire rig and busted everything! Storm hit and i got off. Now having a beer at home, and trying to rebuild my gear. Great day!!
