  1. I'm posting this story because its true. This last spring there was a lot of talk about the state of rainbow trout populations in Seneca. I think we all know one of the reasons why, the main reproduction stream has basically been turned into a ditch. No way can polt or eggs survive in Cathrine creek now, it has no over cover or deep pools to control the temp, and silt due to bank erosion is a real problem as well. With that said........ I live in the town of Montery on Switzerhill rd. A main feeder creek to Meads creek(a protected trout stream), called Goundry creek runs through the valley that I live in. Up until now this creek held some of the last sustaining native brook trout in the area. The neighbor has taken it upon himself to completely strip this creek of bank vegetation, substrate, and gravel, via bulldozer, backhoe, and truck. He has in effect turned this stream into a ditch in the sense of the word. I have called the DEC, and the soil and water conservation dept. What am I told? Because this stream is not a protected stream, only a feeder stream to a protected stream.....that what he is doing is his right and there is nothing that can be done!!!! I'm not talking a little moving of gravel here, I'm talking a total over haul and displacement of 1/2 to 3/4 mile section of stream bed, that will as soon as it rains, very much effect a protected stream. And the DEC is just giving this guy a green light to do as he pleases, no permission, no permit, just, "Go ahead and ruin trout waters friend". Like I said, this is a MAJOR construction project with no engineering study, no impact study......just go ahead and do as you please....nah no need for anything formal pal....just go ahead..... And then when streams and natural resources are gone the DEC has the balls to ask why???? I just can not believe that one person is free to do this and it will effect miles and miles of trout stream, not to mention, residents down stream, not to mention the devastation just in the general area already. If anyone has any ideas or is in a position to do anything about this feel free to PM me. But like I said...don't bother with the DEC, they've told me to stop bothering them about this.
  2. Yeah, we took one about that a few weekends ago off Taughanok.
  3. Just wondering...you wouldn't happen to have those old carbs would you?
  4. was there two weeks ago, down between 60' and 100' over 120' to 130', TONS and I mean TONS of small lakers 20" to 25". Anything green or brass was working. Weeds weren't bad but the fleas were awful.
  5. Where is this marina located on Cayuga?
  6. Launched late out of Taughannok around 8am, ran down to the point south of Taughannok and set up, 2 dipsys out 300', rigger down 70', and leadline out 200'. Heading back north the right dipsy fired and the fight was on, finally brought our largest laker to date to the boat, 30" at 12+lbs.. Past the point at Taughannok and the left dipsy fired, laker number two. Lost the next two fish, and then the bite shut off and the sky got nasty so we headed in. All fish came on spin docs and fly combo's. I'm now officially jealous of you guys on Cayuga....awesome fishing in that lake.
  7. UH, I would tow to the local marine and have them go over the correct operation, fueling, oiling, things to check, daily and weekly maintenance, ect if I were you before you do ANYTHING else. Outboards are very expensive to fix...... WITH THAT SAID...............The 2002 Optimax 135 hp is a 2 stroke motor Please don't take offense to this post, but just check Criegs list, there are literately hundreds of otherwise good boats with junk motors because the owner just didn't know how to take care of his equipment.
  8. Very nice fish! I assume they went back to fight another day. You guys should talk with my muppet neighbor and his mounted 29" muskie he killed out of Waneta lake. Of course this is the same fool that over loaded his boat with fat drunk rednecks, and sunk it also.
  9. 18 hp Merc, runs good, newer lower unit, power pack, kill switch. $650 firm.
  10. Capt chair $50 Two pedestals $75 for both.
  11. Gonna try and launch from Deans Cove sunday.....hope the wind is what they say it is.
  12. Hemlock has a boat and motor restriction that prohibits us from going there. We went to Seneca anyways...dropped one and boated nada! Marked all kinds of fish in 50 to 60 ft and couldn't get a rod to move, washed every one of my flys and spoons...literately hundreds...LOL! Oh well...still better than a sharp stick in the eye or a dirty binky!
  13. Should have said that differently...lol. Yeah, the plan is to troll Erie deries, worm harnesses, and stick baits at night According to the DEC site, Honeoye gets 8.7 million walleye fry annually(IS THAT RIGHT!?), while Conesus gets an unknown amount......just wondering. Or any other lakes if they would be a better choice.
  14. Which one tomorrow for the best chance at Walleyes guys? Thanks for any opinions.
  15. Just make sure you take a walk over the bridge first, one side or the other is always shallow. Real nice launch though.
  16. Just tell him its not the ball or the boat that is traveling at different speeds....its the water around both. Kind of, nit picking, your ball will actually vary due to resistance for short periods of time, kind of like a pendulum. HOWEVER....if you do spray Dad in the face with a hose....let me know the time and place...that's good Youtube material right there!
  17. We are looking to get out of Deans cove Thursday....Just wondering if there is still a lot of junk floating? Is it really that bad out there fellas?
  18. Would you be willing to sell two of the 4' boom with the two rod holders? Please PM me a price and when I could pick them up. Thanks.
  19. Yeah guys, using an angle finder and trigging a triangle, I had an angle of approx 33 deg with a hypotenuse length(magnitude) of 235 ft, That figured out to an opposite side of around 128 ft down @ 2 mph GPS. Sorry for the geek speak .....what it boils down to is, with 235 ft out, my dipsy was running 128 ft deep at 2 mph on the gps. Anything farther out and my angle gets shallower, meaning I'm loosing depth. This is running a setting of 3 on a magnum, so I don't necessarily believe the published numbers from Jensen. I'm sure wire and lead core run deeper, I tried lead core once and had trouble getting the dipsy to trip because the line had so much stretch. I'm gonna buy a wire set up and try wire this summer. Anyways, pretty sure we are gonna launch out of Deans cove on Monday and try running some deep dipsys for those Cayuga lakers.
  20. I ask because I was told somewhere, that after a certain distance out the dipsys start to lose depth and come back up. Don't know how true that is but, I never ran mine more than 240 ft out. If you guys are getting down farther by running them out past 240 ft, I'll start giving it a try.
  21. I use the same rods for my dipsys....good deal here fellas.
  22. Wholly crap guys...280 to 350 ft OUT on the dipsys!? How far down do you figure that puts them? I trigged mine out last time, and with 60 lb braided, out 240ft, at 2mph, we figured we were down 128 ft. Just wondering if I should try and run mine out past 250ft or so...... Anyways, I guess we should have stuck to the plan on wed and launched out of Deans cove on Cayuga instead of Severn on Seneca. Nice fish.
  23. Hey guys, thanks for the radio check in the AM. We got one small LL on a stick bait back 100ft on the lead core, other than that I have pretty much all nice clean shinny spoons, washed em all....lol! We tried everything, dipsys, down from 40ft to 100 ft in 100 to 200 FOW....noth'in...nada.... Thats why they call it fishing and not catching I guess, still a nice day to be on the water.
  24. Awesome! Nice light wind and comfy temps....here we come trout!
