  1. Has anyone fished out of Fairhaven campgrounds? And do they have a launch at the park?
  2. I'm heading back up to lake Ontario again on the 1st of October. We were up last weekend out of the Big Salmon, Didn't do so well, but hey, its better than school or work!!!! Anyways, where are all of the fish being taken in the lake now? Whats a good port to being going out of at this time of year? And any camp grounds that anyone wants to recommend would be appreciated. I'm in an open top, center console, 18.5' Starcraft, so Bays are better than open lake fishing. See you guys on the lake....and thanks for any answers.
  3. Pine stump junction. Its a little town kind of near Mackinaw on the U.P. side.
  4. Bet my farm on it being a lake whitefish. Being from Upper Michigan I caught these all the time in Superior and Huron. They are pretty common up there due to the colder water temps. Down here they seem to have become quit rare though.
  5. This is exactly why I will never live in a town/city/hamlet/ect. Whats that new country song say? Something about the Lord and a gun, and you might meet them both if you show up unwelcome.....And trust me where I live its the truth. Had my house robbed by some out of towners a few years back, the sheriff offered to accidentally leave him alone in my pole barn for a half hour.
  6. What speeds and what FOW are you guys getting them now? Going out of Little Salmon this weekend.
  7. Anything going on out front of the Little Salmon or the Big Salmon? Any info of what depth to start at and what to run would be greatly appreciated. We'll be docking at Salmon country marina on the little salmon. Thanks guys. Anyone else Camping up at Selkirk shores this weekend is welcome to stop by the Scotty and Red van for a beer.
  8. Sorry fellas, re-read my post...I DO NOT want mandatory boating licenses in NY, It's simply another way to generate more funds for our friends in NYC. Once again, you can not legislate common sense, just take a ride down I-90 for proof. Half the people possessing drivers licenses don't belong behind the wheel of anything faster than a bicycle. BTW, I knew Don personally, and this is a shame, if there are waves bigger than 6in, everyone wears a life jacket on my boat. My condolences to the entire Roberts family.
  9. The Woodville end is pretty shallow(4' to 6') for a good long ways up the lake, just keep going you'll hit the drop off. Then I usually run two dipsys with flasher and sutton combos down 70 to 90 ft over however deep the water is were I'm marking bait and fish. My down riggers I'll run one at 20' and one at 30' pulling what ever is working that day, you just have to experiment. This lake is my favorite lake of all of the finger lakes, its the most beautiful in my opinion, and the rainbows are abundant....enjoy you won't regret going.
  10. That really is sad news. But it just supports my feelings on a mandatory boating license, You can not legislate common sense. The lake was crazy rough yesterday and Don Roberts knew better than to be doing what he was doing, this really could have been avoided with just a little common sense. The two guys in the canoe....well......Darwin was right is all I have to say. I've grown up around the Great lakes and Finger lakes all my life, you have to respect them. I Hope members just starting out on the water see these two accidents and think next time out. Ok, I'll get off my soapbox now.....guys please stay safe out there.
  11. They'll be in Cayuga(ALMOST SURLY ARE ALREADY) then Seneca and that's it as far as finger lakes go, kind of hard to swim up 50 or 60 ft waterfalls or crawl over miles of dry ground. And I don't think they trailer to many ocean going freighters these days, so bilge travel isn't likely to happen. I personally am waiting for the first king/coho to be caught in Cayuga.
  12. Don't feel bad, we got skunked on Keuka yesterday as well......still beats school or work....Yesterday was just an awesomely beautiful day to be outside doing anything! P.S. Its called fishing not catching for a reason lol.
  13. Nice LL...we were on Keuka Sunday and did good in the Branchport arm over 120 to 160 fow. We went 5 for 5 all lakers until the kicker ran out of fuel....lol.
  14. I take back my statement in an earlier post about boating courses being required to operate a boat in NY state waters. I mean I'm sorry for the rude remarks but, having grown up on the great lakes my entire life I've learned the hard way that these lakes are nothing to mess with. A 16 ft boat is minimal for even good weather....... On subject.....you do realize why there is a small craft advisory right?
  15. Well sense the wife doesn't trust me.......We have decided to take a charter instead of taking our 18.5 footer out ourselves to salmon fish. So could some of the excellent and kind not to mention generous charter Capts please post there web sites or contact numbers for an open date of Sept 18th for four person on a half to full day trip for salmon. Thanks in advance guys.
  16. yeah baby! ANOTHER nice bow....looks like its on for Seneca! Good job, we'll be out Saturday morning out of Severn!
  17. Thanks for the in put fellas. I run my dipsys on a 2 or 3 setting with a small "0" dodger and a 24" to 36" leader for my spoons, my dipsy rods are pretty stiff action 7 footers. My lead core rods are 8.5 footers medium action, and I run them both straight down the pipe with a 1/4 oz or lighter snap weight on em, usually pulling a stick bait on a 7' to 6' leader. I've been running the large "1" or "2" dodger with the flys to get (I thought) better action on the fly. I just picked up two spin docs today.....we'll see how they work Saturday out of Severn again. Thanks again for the input....
  18. Awsome! Looks like Seneca is heating up! About time after a slow late spring and summer.
  19. Thanks guys, I'm thinking maybe the flasher is just spinning as I troll between 2.5 to 3. Think I'll pick up a spin doc and give that a try. Sorry no pics....the son was with me yesterday and usually the wife brings the camera.....go figure. I'm wondering if that old myth about women being bad luck on a ship is true.....gawd don't anyone tell her I said that!
  20. Launched out of Severn trolled south to the salt plant. Finally got a grand slam, 3 lakers around 4 to 6 lbs, 1 HUGE bow over 11 lbs, and two browns, both small ones of a lb or so, and then on the turn we got a nice little salmon. All in 110 to 90 fOW on dipsys with suttons and flashers back 200 to 225 ft, except the bow which hit the lead core pulling a silver and black 5 in rapala. Weeds weren't bad and no fleas at all. Things went dead as soon as we turned around and trolled with the waves. Probably our best day out yet. I've been trying flys with flashers and have yet to even get a hit on them, what the heck am I doing wrong? You guys talk about these constantly, I usually use a large dodger off the dipsy about 36 in and then the fly off the dodger around 18 in. Any help with these would be appreciated.
  21. Thanks again for the excuse to drag the kid away from his friends and the video games, and take him out fishing, I'm happy to say he's now hooked! We'll be taking him next weekend up to Canandagua with us and he can't wait. Copperliner, don't feel bad, two of the LL's we lost would have made the board but I wouldn't have thought so that day, and wouldn't even have entered them...lol. Thank god, because had we landed them and not entered them he would have killed me. Again splitshot thanks so much.
  22. Your probably not doing anything wrong, Thats why they call it fishing and not catching. I go through slumps, everyone does. Some weeks I go out and I could put a piece of corn down and catch fish with it, The next week I can't buy a hook up if they sold them at Wal-Mart! Then there is the worst....hook ups galore and you can't land anything, like us this last Saturday....we went 0 for 8.....grrrrr. Just keep fishing and it's still better than being at work/school!
  23. Anyways.....Cold brook is a trout stream, get caught with a bow on any trout stream and see what happens.
  24. Nick, A BIGGER BOAT!?, damn man.... Anyways...my 2 cents worth on criegslist....Don't list anything on criegslist....the site is a scam artists haven..Do yourself a favor and don't even list on that site, nothing but scams, spammers, and morons that will offer you half of what its worth then get pi$$ed because you won't give it away.
  25. Trolled in the morning before 8am down to about even with Milliken station, Waves got pretty rough so we started back towards Tauhanook, Trolled two or three passes behind the point, marked a bunch of fish there and had and lost three. Thats when the trouble started, on our last pass up all of a sudden what was two other boats jigging, turned into about ten........To the gentleman(I use that term loosely) that pulled in front of us in the starcraft, stopped, and then proceeded to hook my dipsy, I have your jig and would love to give it back if you want it, we waited around at the launch for you to return your hardware. Also ran into a boat load of Asian Americans that could not speak English coming out of the launch as we were going in, damn near ran my boat into the seawall trying to avoid these wonderful people that desperately need a boating course. Only to find a guy at the launch doing boat maintenance on a 1950's vintage boat, no problem except its a Saturday at a public boat launch around noon and your plugging up one of three launches! WOW! Sorry to vent but I just had to...... Splitshot, sorry we didn't make it over to the weigh in, the lake was just to rough for us to make it over there. We did however have an awesome night camping AND get to spend some much need quality time with our teenage son......Thanks a bunch for the opportunity!
