LO tackle shops in the rochester area
Mortigan replied to rustyrat's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
I stop into S & R Bait & Tackle Co, 4423 Culver Rd, Rochester, NY 14622, when I'm in the neighborhood. They've got a good selection and surprisingly good prices. -

Don't forget the Genny, Oatka Creek and Mendon Ponds! -
Ray specializes in smart ass remarks. They keep us warm all winter... You can actually catch some really nice steelhead in Irondequoit Bay right now. Gives me a minutes to dig up an old post of mine... Got it: http://www.lakeontariounited.com/fishing-hunting/index.php/topic/28497-forever-young-i-bay-4-7-report/?hl=mortigan#entry174319

We finally splashed the boat this afternoon, just in time for the wind to start picking up. The steady NE wind has the warm water piled up on shore - we got all our fish in about 8 feet of water on a westward troll, from Shipbuilders back to the mouth, three small browns and a surprise 34 inch pike (all released). We wanted to turn and make another run through our marks but the wind had other ideas. We got spun like a top with all our lines out, right off the beach, and had to cut and run to avoid beaching. Thank you VERY much to the beach resident that grabbed our board out of the surf and returned it. We played it safe and just stayed in the bay, rerigging everything. Back at the launch, we pulled mono out of our main and spectra out of our kicker. Small boat trolling - got to love it!

What will you trade for one slightly used kidney? Sorry to see you go, Ray. -
Lol - I've been warned about trucking. Your friend is right about weddings; I shot a few back in the day and no fun biker ones, unfortunately. He has the right idea, and I've had some thoughts in that area. Wouldn't pay the bills but might make a good side business. Thanks, Mark

I got started because a buddy of mine owns a 18' Starcraft. We'd randomly float around I-Bay, catch a couple fish and drink a couple beers - until he got hooked on the idea of trolling. I spent the winter on LOU, reading everything I could but we really started by doing what Paul suggested, hiring a spring charter to show us how it all works. We had a blast, learned a lot and it didn't hurt that we had the best day EVER! We boated 40 fish and seven species that day. Been loving it ever since...

Thanks, Vince. That's really something that interests me - it's one of the reasons I jumped at the chance to train as a machinist, even though there's not much of a firearms industry here. I'd apprentice with a good gunsmith in a second but there's a serious shortage of them here too. I don't know of any opportunities but I can do some digging.

I know it, Scott; I'd like to be one of the few. Text me if you get the itch to fish.

Sorry, Mark, didn't realize that was unclear - I probably gave too much information. I know what makes me happy: "I love shooting (both rifle and handgun), hunting (rifle, shotgun and bow), fishing (stream & trolling) and photography". I was looking for ideas on jobs in the Rochester area that might involve those interests. I can go back to piloting a desk but would rather not if I can avoid it.

Last bump. Thank you to those that have responded. Anyone else?...

"Thanks. I can't get his version of the snell to work. He does this thing where he puts the tag end through the eye halfway through the knot. I'm only working with a short piece here, since on a fly the whole rig is 36" finished and mine is 6 with two shells. His video also cuts out after the first snell. I ended up tying standard snells, two in a row and it seems to be very strong." They must have had a conversion problem when they did the Flash video. If you run it in Quicktime you'll get the whole thing but it sounds like the way you did it is solid.

Bump. Anybody out there in a profession (charter captain is obvious, sorry) that involves firearms (or hunting), tackle (or fishing) or photography? Brainstorming ideas... please PM me.
