  1. Keep those ideas coming! I've gotten some good ones so far, thank you. Sent from my HTC6500LVW using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  2. I need some ideas and I'm hoping for your help. I have the chance to pick a new career and I want to find something that involves the activities I really enjoy. I'm hoping that some of you would be willing to PM me with ideas, careers and actual openings that you know of. There's a lot of knowledge out there and I'm hoping one of you will know of something that I don't. A little background: I love shooting (both rifle and handgun), hunting (rifle, shotgun and bow), fishing (stream & trolling) and photography but I've never made a living at any of them. Instead, I spent 26 years at the local telephone company in Rochester... then had my job "eliminated" in one of their recent rounds of semi-annual downsizing. I went back to school, completed MCC's Precision Machining certificate program in October and was hired by Brinkman Precision to train as a CNC lathe operator. Well - they just let me go... but at least it was after their cost-cutting got rid of the paper towels! I can go back to the same telecom work I was doing before - I have a great work record, resume, letters of references, etc,,, but this is a rare opportunity to do something I actually enjoy. I'd appreciate any help you can provide. Please PM me through LOU and let me know your thoughts. Thank you, Mortigan (Bob Murray)
  3. Yep - that's the only real sheath for them. A few websites sell the knife and blade tamer together, I carry all my cutting gear (gloves, assorted knives, ziplocks & sharpening steel) in a chef knife kit.
  4. Happy to take the picture for you, Pete. Didn't know who you were when I did! Sent from my HTC6500LVW using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  5. I'm not particularly experienced and don't get out as often as I'd like. I'd recommend searching "kayak" to see what LOU members are using them and send a Private Message. Also, I've always found both kayak shops on Irondequoit Bay to be friendly and helpful.
  6. I don't think it gets much use outside of the warmer season but you'll see at least Jude, Paul and Kevin put something up now and then. The group had a display at the local sports show last year too. I work on a charter and got a kick out of the clients last summer when we passed Jude in his kayak - over 150' of water off Sandy Creek! He does pretty good too...
  7. Welcome. You'll find there's a number of avid kayak fisherman here. In fact, I've already seen one posting brown trout caught in Lake Ontario, off Webster Park. Too cold for me - I prefer more boat under me when the water's only 35 degrees! Try this forum too - a few of us are on both: http://wnykfa.fishgator.com/index
  8. Nice night for a drive. Think I'll join as well Sent from my HTC6500LVW using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  9. Yep. 10lb mono clean, 12lb mono clean, 15lb mono w 10lb fluoro leaders...
  10. You'll need to pay for a non-resident permit. Search for the previous topic on that...

  13. Evil eyes? Sorry to see Captain Poonie passed last year - I have a couple of his old rigger rods.
  14. There's a shop here I like but they don't take cards.
  15. Watch in online on Vimeo. I run it on my plasma through a Roku 3 - watching it right now, actually...
  16. Where are you located? $65 is a really good price for those but I shop locally if I can get a similar price.
  17. Any issues getting out under the bridge? We're getting my buddy's Starcraft ready to go tomorrow...
  18. Great to see people on the water. Hope to have my buddy's Starcraft ready tomorrow.
  19. Lots of folks use 20lb mono for their riggers, then add a lighter fluorocarbon (or mono) leader.
  20. You need a bigger boat, Rick. With just a little more room, you could take ALL the Yankees fishing at the same time!
  21. Riggers are just mono, although you might add a long section of large diameter (30lb Big Game is popular) mono or Flea Flicker during the spiny water flea season and then leader down.
