  1. first series of ontario boats were penn yans...we bought the 21 footer almost on our 7th anniversary..."7 Year Itch" was born and it carried us through 3 penn yans for over 10 years to our 295 prowler... moved to florida and worked our way into an 18' center console perfect for the bays in our area and some light offshore stuff...one of my wifes favorite exclamations is "booyah"...and the vessel "Buoy-Yah" was born...
  2. the buckle locks by going overcenter...if it is hitting on something it wont lock down...tcons advice is probably the answer...the buckle will kind of encompass the strap when it locks in...and those do have velcro straps to keep the buckle locked down... good luck...when you get it it will be one of those "oh my god its that simple" moments...
  3. used a similar engine on my 24 penn yan...kept the batteries charged very well while trolling...and only burned 1/2 gallon per hour...nice setup...
  4. i know the drawings are all rectangular but are you considering radiusing the corners inside the wells?...square corners and fish dont get along...
  5. does it hurt your open array running at cruising speed on the water?...operating in 4 foot seas?...there are some pretty fast boats that use open array antennas under much harsher conditions than you will experience on the road in my opinion... it should not spin in the wind on the road....it doesnt have propeller properties...
  6. sorry for your loss...have you considered contacting a collector?...

  8. i agree that the prop may be a problem but 180 hp isnt a lot shoving around a 22 foot boat rigged for fishing...i'm guessing the boat was never a race day winner but runs ok and youre just looking for something to get it up on plane quicker than it has in the past... if you are running in your recommended rpm range with your current prop the whale tail isnt a bad place to start from an economical standpoint...although trim tabs have many advantages under different load and weather/sea conditions... in my experience with 2 previous boats...penn yan 21 tournament with 175 hp merc and 245 hardtop with 205 hp merc a stingray hydrofoil on the lower unit snapped the boat on plane faster, increased top end speed and fuel economy...the time to plane was the biggest improvement and very noticeable... its an inexpensive thing to try and ive had good results with it...
  9. a picture with a ruler is helpful with these baits...lets establish a reference....how long is the center top bait?...nose to tail body length...thanks...
  10. and when it gets hit hang on!...woohooo
  11. size these bad boys for me...the red head on the top right...what length is it?...
  12. ive never been fortunate enough to be on a boat where we could afford to throw fish back hoping for bigger ones later....
  13. my apologies...i misread the post...i was thinking he was stating keeping an illegal fish... i get where youre going now...oops... and i guess i would have to agree...there were very many inexperienced observers in the tournaments i participated in and i never thought of that scenario as a possibility...
  14. i think you have the wrong idea about observing...it doesnt matter what the captain tells the observer...its not the observers job to police the catch...only to make sure the boat is not breaking any rules of the tournament regarding how they are fishing...number of rods...radio and phone communication silence...fishing territory and where the fish are coming from...whether a fish is legal is the determination made at weigh in and weigh in only...the observer is not a vocal participant who tells the crew what they are doing wrong...their duty is to report wrongdoing at the end of the day...
