1. They are on some nice heavy fish through the ice though. Those are a couple great muskies, especially for PA. It has to be fun hand lining one of those through a hole in the ice. Kudos to them. Seems like they put their time in.
2. Not sure about photographing fish out of season, undersized fish, or endangered fish. Probably technically not supposed to do any of it, but regulations are usually vague around that stuff and not enforced the same by all conservation officers from what I've heard. I know the length of time it takes me to measure and photo a fish before release isn't hurting them any. Then again, i usually don't photograph anything under 45"s. No closed season in PA for muskies though. Essentially no natural reproduction in the state so really no need to close the season.
3. Otherwise, PA musky fishing pretty much sucks. That's why I don't even bother to buy a PA license most years anymore, even though I'm a resident. These two obviously have a goldmine of an ice spot and they maybe haven't been very diligent about keeping the location secret with all the advertising of fish they are doing.
4. Yeah...those two have a pretty good ice program dialed in. He got a 53 last ice season and this 51 a couple days ago. Both fish from the same spot most likely. There's obviously something about their ice program because that seems to be the only time they get anything big and when they catch most of their fish. They both have been advertising their catches pretty heavily online through Facebook the last couple years. They were even on the local news a few times regarding the 53 from last year.
5. Thanks for posting that Brent. It looks pretty close to the old ones. I guess the fish will decide if they like the weighting and action as much.
6. We've always done well in the Tuff gliders. How do the new ones look? Are they 6" with two hooks? Here's my collection of original Tuff Shad gliders made by Chris Hamrick.
7. I have two wire set ups i run deep cranks to bang rocks with. We run stuff like parrywinkles, marges, and hosebaits with them. Several rods that will work but i run two Migizi e-glass rods with twili tips. I run Mason silverlus monel wire line in 45lb. This setup works great for us and can take some serious abuse. We can get 30' down on about 65' line with those baits. Nice for tracking close to the boat but deep. I dont have any experience with the multistrand wire they use for dipseys though.
8. Tickets can be purchased online at Mike Money’s Memorial www.youcaring.com/jason-bond-447564, After making your donation email [email protected] with your donation amount, name and phone number. Jason Bond will fill out your tickets and email a picture back.
9. There is no need or advantage to be at the arkron canton banquet March 5th when the guide raffle winners will be drawn. If i counted right, there are 21 trips. Some people like myself donated 2 trips. For example, im doing a spring ohio trip and a summer chq trip. 21 winners will be drawn March 5th. The same person is eligible to be drawn more than once if they purchased multiple chances. The order of the winners will be drawn that night, but the assignment or picking of the trips will most likely take longer. Winner #1 will be contacted after the drawing on March 5th and gets first pick of all the trips. Then, winner #2 will be contacted to pick from the remaining 20 trips. This process will repeat until all 21 trips have been given away. Thanks for your interest Joe. I'm glad to answer any other questions anyone may have.
10. Hey Joe. Thanks for asking. The way my buddy Jason wrote this is a bit confusing. He's a good fisherman, but maybe not the best editor. There are 3 things being discussed in the flyer. 1. Lure raffle and swap meet at the Ohio show this weekend 2. Guide raffle for people attending the OH Show. Tony Grant and Greg Thomas will collect any guide trips from people exhibiting at the show and draw the winners at the show. You must be present to win. 3. Main Guide Raffle advertised here with me, jason, kevin, tad, hulbert, catfish, larry, justin etc. these tickets can be purchased online and with jason through March. These trip winners will not be drawn until the Akron Canton MI chapter banquet in March Sorry for any confusion.
11. OH doesnt raise or stock any tigers. All pures. They do feed their muskies minnows at the hatchery, and they are getting nice fingerlings.
12. I attached a flyer here about the raffle with some updates. 3 more guides added....Mike Hulbert, Mostly Muskies Charters, and Otisco Lake Guide Service. Thanks again Larry and Justin. MikeMoney Guide raffle.pdf
13. Sounds like something happened between some of you guys and the MI Chapter. Sorry, wasn't thinking of that as the reason for a different club. Good luck to you guys.
14. First, I am all for any group that helps promote and improve muskie fishing opportunities. I also admire and commend your enthusiasm. It's often difficult to get people to dedicate their time to things like this. Just wondering why you wouldn't just piggy back off of the MI Chapter. MI is a known and large organization with many benefits. There is strength in numbers. Start a local group or committee within the existing MI Chapter to work on the local projects that interest you. The only reason why I'm suggesting this is because I have experience with being involved in starting muskie groups/organizations. Most recently, (a few years back now though) several of us were going to restart the Chautauqua Lake Musky Association. The first thing you need to do is to obtain a tax exempt status (501c3 i think)...that process is pretty difficult in NY now and is what squashed us restarting the Chq organization. Maybe one of you guys are an attorney though. Just a suggestion.
15. I'm not going to make it this year, but I usually go. The shows great. A good mix of vendors. Take lots of cash...no atm at the show. Stay at the show hotel and go to the swap meet too. Its a good time. There's also the Muskie Max show north Pittsburgh, PA in March
16. Got it Larry. Thank you. I'll repost when we get the additions made. I think we are adding you and Mike Hulbert. That sounds good. I don't get to cast much anymore.
17. Thanks Mike. Thanks to Old Man too...I see he made a donation. The muskie community has its quirks, but we really pull together for a good cause. Maybe I'll get to fish with one of you guys.
18. Man...I feel bad for you. That boat should have way better performance than what you are getting. Your dealer obviously doesn't know how to rig that boat and to insult someone that just purchased a brand new rig from them is inexcusable in my opinion. I would get your mounting hole and prop correct before you worry about trim tabs. Don't let the trim tabs be a band-aid. Get everything else performing correctly first. The boat should get up on plane, stay straight, and be much faster than it is just with the correct prop and motor height. After that, trim tabs will make it even better for hull pounding/slapping. From stuff I have seen on other sites, seems Starcraft Fishmasters like 3 Blade Tempest props (somebody may have told you that earlier here). Maybe try calling these guys and see what prop and hole mount they recommend for your set up. I hear they rig lots of Fishmasters and they sell Yamahas. http://vicsboats.com/
19. I thought Ciscos are machined aluminum. What type of finish do they have?
20. Thanks JakeyBaby! I appreciate your kind words, and I agree...great opportunity here. I'd be glad to answer any questions anyone may have also.
21. Mike Money, a close muskie fishing friend, was killed in a car accident this fall. Mike was a former PMTT World Champion and is missed by many. A bunch of us have gotten together to help raise money for a foundation in Mike's name to benefit the Ohio muskie fishery. Most recently, we have put together a "Muskie Guide" raffle. There are some pretty accomplished Chautauqua fisherman on the ticket, so I thought some of you guys may have an interest. Or, come over to OH to start your season early next year. It would be great if one of the moderators could make this a "sticky" post. We appreciate your support. Adam Andresky Mike Money Baitfish Fund “Guide Raffle†The Mike Money Memorial Baitfish Fund has been started to continue the amazing, helpful work carried out by our great friend Mike Money. Mike Money was the original organizer of the baitfish lure raffle at the Ohio muskie show. This raffle was used to purchase minnows and supplies for the DNR Hatchery. Through the memorial fund we will continue to buy supplies and minnows to help young muskies reach larger size prior to stocking in Ohio lakes. This process extends the life expectancy of these young fish to keep the sport thriving. Mike’s mantra was “life is all about the stories bubâ€; so through this memorial fund others will be able to create memorable stories doing Mike’s favorite pastime, muskie fishing. This raffle will have 2 drawings the first will be on Sunday January 24th at noon at the Columbus Muskie Show. This drawing will be for anyone in attendance and will correspond with a memorial for Mike Money. Tony Grant and Greg Thomas will collect all trips drawn at the memorial. The second drawing will be during the Akron Canton Ch.19 Banquet on Saturday March 5th. The prizes will include donated fishing trip with some of the best Muskie anglers in North America. No limit on number of time you can win the more you buy the more you can win. All proceeded will go into the Mike Money Memorial baitfish Fund and go towards helping Ohio Hatcheries raise more and bigger Muskies. There will be no limit to the number of trips an individual can win the more tickets you buy the more trips you can win. Each ticket will cost $10 and can be purchased with cash at different events (Columbus Muskie show booth, Akron Canton Banquet and hopefully at the Chicago Muskie Show). Tickets can also be purchased online at Mike Money’s Memorial www.youcaring.com/jason-bond-447564, after making your donation email [email protected] with your donation amount, name and phone number and I will fill out your tickets and email a picture back. All winners will be called in the order they were drawn and given their choice of remaining trips. First person drawn picks from all the trips and down the line. The current list of guides might grow some and we will update the list with any additions. In an effort to keep everything transparent a bank account has been setup and statements will be posted to account for all funds. We have pro guides who are volunteering trips along with some excellent anglers who spend lots of time on the water and have caught numbers and large fish from everywhere we will fish. Your guide will donate all expenses related to fishing and will have gear. All guides have a boat 18’ or bigger that a rigged for muskie fishing. Winners will reel all trolling fish in and if casting the guides will fish from the back of the boat. You will be responsible for you food, rain gear and lodging unless noted otherwise. We have no closed season in Ohio so this can be an opportunity to explore new water and learn from some great anglers. With so many lakes close we will pick the one with the best bite when dates are selected. Please call Jason Bond at 412-951-1296 with questions about the guide raffle. We are going to carry on the Baitfish Lure Raffle and Swap on Saturday night January 23rd location TBD. We generated over $2000 for the baitfish fund last year. If you have any new or mint condition used Lures you would like to donate to the raffle, or would like to sponsor the raffle. Please contact Gabe Rosplock at 440-796-9926. 22. A Perchbait is 8 or 9" deep diving crank bait made by Brian Boyer of Legend Lures. Orange belly perch is just the color pattern...a perch paint job with an orange belly instead of the typical white or yellow belly color. I have definitely found times when muskies seem to prefer a particular color belly.
23. Nice fish. I'm jealous. As much as I fish the lake, I can't believe I haven't made it to Chq post turnover the last 2 years. Too many places to fish and never enough time. The season always ends way too fast for me.
24. Nice, congrats. Thats a tough place to catch them for sure. I was talking with a friend from Canada that has a friend local to there that has about 45 hours per fish on about 20 fish this year.
25. Nice Dan. Makes me wish I would have made it back there again this year. Just curious...what was the water temp?
