  1. I think he looks at this site occasionally, but I'll pm you with his #.
  2. People are paying some crazy prices for certain baits online these days. I heard they are getting some big ones at mille lacs on those Baker minnow baits. What size are they Zach?
  3. Not surprising Zach. Your paint work and finish are top notch and your baits catch fish. You are always generous with your baits so glad to see one fetch a high price for you.
  4. Great looking fish and a nice picture. Congrats on the new pb. Now go get a bigger one.
  5. Thanks guys. Yeah...nice fish here. We are here for the week. Been coming for a week for the last 17 years
  6. Big fish Eddie with another beautiful 46" St Clair tiger on our boat today. Hit a Boss Shad on a boat rod.
  7. If you are a Muskies Inc member, log into their website on the main page with your username and password. Then go to the Lunge Log. All the different division reports are available there. It will probably be difficult to keep up with the size of the tigers that come out of some of those western reservoirs like Tapps, Bluewater, Pineview, etc. It seems to me I remember that high 40" to 50" tigers are caught there every year. Of course, I don't have any idea what kind of potential the lakes you are fishing have. Stay on em and good luck.
  8. Nice fish. Sounds like Friday was a good day. Too bad I had to work. We had a good numbers day Saturday, but didnt get any big ones. We did not enter the tourney, but congrats to those who got fish.
  9. Were you in your boat or kayak old man? How did you fall in?
  10. Nice fish Chad and Joe. It was probably good your club only had a one day tourney...wind and weeds were the worst I've seen this year on Sunday.
  11. Nice pic with your boy, Joe. The more i hear, it sounds as though there were more than a few people fishing Chautauqua at least a week early this year. One guy in particular, is a lake resident. I also heard one guy caught a fish a week early that was dropping eggs in his boat. It sounds like some were fishing early because they had the dates wrong, but also sounds like others knew they were early. Either way...no excuse. How hard is it to read last Saturday in May in the regulations and wait like the rest of us? I always hear there is still up to 25% natural reproduction in the lake, so the closed season is in place for a reason. It's not like OH where there is no natural reproduction and no need for a closed season.
  12. Had a good weekend. Caught fish each day but nothing big for us. The fish we caught appeared to be recovering from a recent spawn. Most fish we caught had red spot or wounds and were skinny. I expected and hoped fishing would be better, but it's still great to be back at Chq. Water is pretty clear both ends. Temps are around 70 deg. North end has some floating moss and some pond weed. The narrows and South end has mats of floating pond weed, making fishing very difficult or even impossible in some areas. I covered or checked out most of the lake Saturday. Lots of muskie boats out Saturday. I bet there were 20 plus boats in one area I fished Saturday. Sunday and today had less muskie boats and more spread out. Overall boat traffic was not bad for a holiday weekend. I've definitely seen way worse at Chq.
  13. We need a conservation officer to enforce that next year. Surely that's something chapter 69 has an interest in. Can you guys make some calls?
  14. That's good. Thanks for the reply.
  15. Somebody told me today, he has heard from two different sources (one being Hogans Hut) that guys have been fishing for muskies all week at Chautauqua. Season opens tomorrow right, or am I missing something? Maybe somebody is just misinformed. I sure hope people aren't targeting muskies out of season there. Chautauqua isn't a tiger lake.
  16. It's probably not far into post spawn, so id say shallower is a safe bet to start. I'll be curious to see what the water temp and clarity situation is. Hard to say between north and south. Both ends hold lots of fish. We caught fish in both ends early last year. I just hope we dont get chased by storms too much.
  17. Pretty fish. Tigers are cool. Congrats
  18. He had pics there this morning when i first saw the post. However they were doubled and upside down. I guess he got frustrated and removed them. It looked like a nice fish but hard to tell upside down on my phone. Chad or Joe, Any idea whats up with the pics double posting? I had the same issue today. Or them being upside down for some?
  19. Not sure what the issue is with double pics. It seems to be an issue for us all lately. At least they arent upside down
  20. Who's going to Chautauqua for the opener this weekend? I'm expecting to see lots of muskie boats out. I'm excited to get back out there this weekend. This first hot stretch of weather may be good. I don't think i posted these here before, but here are pics of our two best Chq releases from 2015. Good luck to everyone.
  21. Barfighters, right? Id like to have a couple of those myself.
  22. Most fish, like bass and smaller muskies have mouths that are softer than a larger muskies mouth, and they are easier to hook. I guess you are referring to 8-10" wood, dive and rise, or even gliders. Like a Latiano, Leo, LungeLumber, Suick, Bobbie, etc. Id say if you have sharp hooks, a cranked drag, and a good hookset then thats the best you can do. Sometimes "T"ing your hooks can help. Theres alot of wood on some of those baits. Some fish can get a pretty good grip on the wood when they bite and its hard to move the bait in their mouth to set the hooks. Plastic baits may be more bite resistant...like a jerko or a sledge. Sometimes they just dont get it. Not going to get them all. Dive and rise are usually pretty good hookers though. Gliders can get more misses but also attract alot of fish. A jerkbait will never have as good of a hooking percentage as a bucktail, but they are much more fun to fish.
  23. Yes. You should look for bait and hooks on your graph when trolling open water. As far as water depth, depth of bait in the water column, lure depth, etc...nobody can really tell you what that is going to be this coming June. You could be catching fish 15' down over 35' of water in the north end or 5' down on a weed edge in the south end. Thats why i fish...to figure that stuff out, and be able to catch fish. I trust my graph and target depths I'm seeing the majority of marks. Based on the time if year, you will be between spawn and summer periods. I wouldnt expect the water to be too hot and stuff be set up too deep yet. Learn the depths your baits run too, so you can target depths of stuff you mark. For example, a 5" plastic Tuff Shad that you referenced, should run about 10' down on 30' line. Depends on line, speed, rod angle, etc Good luck. Chautauqua is usually pretty good. You should like it.
  24. I would guess that you have looked at a map and know the layout of the lake. The north end is deeper and clearer, while the south end is shallower and more stained water. Muskies could be anywhere at chq. Shallow related to weeds, suspended over open water, and in between. It will be a matter of finding the pattern that works best for you at the particular time you are there. I think trolling open water is easiest, but it can be tough if you aren't confident in what you are doing. Ive fished both west branch and chq since 1998. The trolling techniques and shad style baits you probably run at west branch in the summer should also work well at chq. I like to troll on the faster side (4-5mph) but you can catch fish slower if that's what you are more comfortable with.
