  1. I'm more of the Trout, Salmon type fisherman, might be a little different then walleye fishing, I'm just wondering if I can up my game this year, Fishing and catching fish out of Oswego the past two years has become a challenge for many.
  2. Braided Line Advancement I've been doing a bit of research with the Red, Green and Yellow color braids regarding trolling and what effect depth and light have on what the fish might see. Back a few years ago it seemed the norm was using the Reds because the red would disappear so many feet down and thought to be unseen by the fish ,but we now no that through testing it actually turns black going down beyond 15 feet and it now seems the greens stay green and can be seen by the fish. Now that Yellow Braid is out the graphs show it turns clear or virtually clear beyond 15 fow. I have always used a fluorocarbon leader and see it as a must. I'm interested in trying the yellow out this year but only want to re-spool 2 reels for the try out. Wondering what other thoughts and opinions there might be before I do. All replies are appreciated.
  3. Oswego Support- Lake View Web Cams needed Oswego Harbor- Web Cams-Need Your Support I've remained quiet for several months now waiting to see the new Oswego web cams come into operation overlooking the lake, river and Harbor. The Mayor did respond to me back in Sept they were being worked on and I know of the person who had insight into the development of a system for the city. My last request to the Mayor went unanswered so I decided to reach out to see if there is any knowledge available. This was a big concern to many and a very resourceful tool to have to boaters and fishermen from near and a far.Fishing is only a couple months away for some. "Time to find out" Its been almost one year since I ventured into trying to make this a reality, There's power in numbers and I know there's many that would like to see this happen, reach out to your local aldermen's and legislatures, official's, and people involved in the water front restoration project. Boat owners and Captains up and down the Lake Ontario Coast bring them on board. Just think of being able to see what the Lake is actually doing before you get there. What a tool for safe boating and fishing to. By all means share this post!!!!

  6. would be great to have web cams all around the lake, what a difference it would make for all, right now I'm focused on the Oswego area since that has been my home port. I have been in contact with the person who designed the web came for this site on many occasions and directed him to the people in Oswego, the last thing I new he was designing a prototype to show them ,it was my understanding there has been no further contact. That is why I'm reaching out. Oswego has millions of dollars now to redo the water front area.We did have a web cam and they took them down,it wasn't a water front shot but better than nothing.Hopefully we can get this started and it will have a ripple effect to other areas.

  10. I do my best to send out a radio check heading out, most of the time someone will reply, good to know your radio is working right, my radio has a built in DSC all set up with Boat US and the Coast Guard just hit the switch and they can find my boat through GPS.I also have Boat US Insurance and they have a Lake O tow service at several areas to respond. Well worth the piece of mind to have. Good Luck
  11. Luckily its only for Harbor fest weekend, the city is going to rent out the parking spots to travelers for $10.00 a day to make some money for the city. At first I heard there would be room for boat trailers, guess they got taken out real fast. I Took my Granddaughter to the fort pool yesterday and saw all the boat trailers being stored over there, Hugh inconvenience. I'm waiting till Monday to launch, weather providing.
  12. Is there a reputable Person around the Fulton or Oswego area who's experienced in diagnosing boat and outboard problems? My remote started shifting hard a couple of weeks ago, didn't think to much of it until I took it out again this week and it started making a little bit more than usual clanking noise when going into gear and still hard to move remote handle forward or reverse. I decided the other day to drop the gear case and inspect the **** shaft and look for any problems and also changed out the water pump. The remote was in Neutral when I dropped it and verified the shift shaft was in Neutral before putting it back in. Water pump works fine, prop turns in correct rotation forward and reverse, stills make a clanking sound and noticed when remote is in neutral the prop spins freely but clanks, move the remote back and forth and it stops clanking and spins freely, move the remote again back and forth then into neutral and it moves freely but clanks. It seems to me that something is out of alignment being the remote got tight I'm thinking a possible cable problem of not aligning, on my motor there's a electronic sensor for positioning too. My boat and motor F115xa is only 3 years old and only like 180 hours on that motor. I have a Clymer manual but that only gets you so far. I have many years of Mechanical experience but boat and outboard is still in the learning stage. All relies deeply appreciated.
  13. same here, went out 4-8 , set riggers and copper in about 100 fow, marked many bait pods on the bottom and many fish in 15-30 down and 100 down all the way out to 150 then nothing. Had one hit on rigger one quick release on the copper. There's fish there so that's a plus
  14. I noticed two weeks the weather buoy off shore of Oswego Harbor is back, must be someone finally dove down to retrieve the chain. I can't remember if that is Coast Guard owned or who owns it. Does any one have any knowledge as to whether it is up and running and if so the location to view its data. The city of Oswego has had there web cams down for weeks now so its hard to know what's going on out there. All replies appreciated
  15. I do the same thing with pumping gas, I always use non-eth for both engines but I always treat the gas too. For the little added expense its worth it in the long run.
  16. Didn't know there was a tournament, is it just in Oswego? I'm trying to get out in morning,Thanks
  17. Now that we have made it through some weather changes and that I haven't been able to get out in two weeks I'm sure things are changing out there, I'm shooting for tomorrow would be nice to have some updates on where's the fish, FOW, depth, etc. Any Fleas showing up yet? I'll share if I make it out there and if there around or hitting. All replies appreciated.
  18. Haven't been able to get out in over a week and then I was still catching fish in 20-40 FOW, trolled out to 200 that day and marked very little, knowing how fast things can change out there and hoping to get out this week weather permitting what's everyone been seeing this past week? Is it looking better than the last year or two? All replies appreciated.
  19. Its nice to see the City of Oswego re vamped there web site, its really nice ,but in doing so the newly installed Web Cam over looking Wrights Landing and the Light House have disappeared. I do know that is wasn't functioning or even loading correctly. Does anyone have any inside info on what happened to the site or Web Cam. was nice to see the actual conditions of the Lake and really want to get out there. All replies appreciated. Thanks
  20. Just wanted to post that Oswego now has a live Web Cam view of the lake over looking the break wall. The Wrights Landing cam. Maybe, just maybe, someone was listening to my inputs for the last year. This will make boating, fishing and the harbor a better place for all that use it. http://www.oswegony.org/city-web-cameras/
  21. I've been interested in buying some sort of Down temp and speed device and I think this is the year. I see that the Fishhawk x4 is one of the most popular ones out there. I'm curious as to how these units really stand up out there on Lake O, who would know best but the people who use them. I see there is only a one year warranty, that's not much. Is there other brands out just as good? I do want a cable free unit. All replies are deeply appreciated.
  22. Thanks, that's nice to have to see what the weather is, kind of like what the pall times cam showed, Lake Ontario United has a good set up, you need to be a pro member to use the web cam site, like I said its way upstream of Oswego. Any way to zoom that cam to see the lake you posted??
  23. I received this letter from John Katko and it provided me with the opportunity to bring forth a concern of mine and others.
  24. Hello Can you provide any info on this new product? I use the auto tether since I fish alone a lot of Oswego, I've had 2 of them and the problem is these units lasted only 2 years, I find that the seal is not up to par on keeping out moisture, I remove the cover, batteries and let it dry out and can air remove any residue. No matter though the board has always gone south, getting 2 seasons out of a $250.00 item is kind of frustrating. Granted its a life saver when it works when your alone and a piece of mind. I was just looking on line for a newer and better product.
