  1. Well after spending the weekend with wife in Toronto I am back in a tree for the pm portion of the day.
I guess I will just play catch up on the thread while I wait impatiently for some deer movement.

Deer were moving in 8r today this evening ,me and the kid together on the ground again got one of my biggest does ever .. and she had two shooter bucks with her .. after I busted her with the 30/30 she piled up 40 yards away then one high heavy 8 came in after the shot let me wind another round in .. looking at us tried to get the kid to turn on him but she couldn’t so I took a poke and missed clean , then this deer went up to the doe and made a scape five feet from her laying there then as we approached her a even bigger guy huge body was checking us out messing with his girl .. great night in the woods.. going back in , morning antlers only .... GOODLUCK ROB

  2. Here’s a story we all know too well being hunters especially bow, yesterday behind my house I made it out late in the day actually the first time behind the house this year .. as I stalked out through the thick stuff I saw a big dead buck .. heart breaking, been there ,, never found a hole so I assumed it was a car kill .. because it was literally 100 yards behind the homes . After dark I went back in to grab his head after I got a road kill tag from a deputy. When I got him rolled over I started looking for a hole, found one ,, fixed broad head right shoulder forward ... after I got home I started calling local land owners I know well , asking if any one hit a good one? Well I found a younger guy that hunted a half mile east of me , I hooked up with the guy , his best friend that’s hunts with him , told me what side he hit the deer on ,on November 1st, this kid was hurting since then after loosing this beautiful buck ..well we surprised him , his buddy told him they were coming over to my place to ask permission to hunt , but he was overwhelmed when I told him I found his buck . Watching a grown man break down in tears was more rewarding than I can even say..I have a video of us surprising him with his first Pope and Young buck I wish I could load it up here to show you guys .. this is what it means to us all the time preparation, hrs in the woods..GOODLUCK to all through the rest of the season. 7. November 13 pm
    25 degrees
    S wind 5 mph
    Partly sunny

Deer were on their feet yesterday. It finally seemed like they were moving since the storm and this damn weather. Saw 11 total. 3 were being bucks (two young bucks and one shooter). Every deer came out to me and into the standing corn except for the shooter. One small act of chasing from one of the young bucks pushing a doe out of the corn.

  8. Off since Sunday, hunted every day and haven’t seen much. This buck came running through at seven and hung up north of me. I grunted and can called at him and he looped around back behind me. I could hear him grunting so I kept grunting back. He came quartering towards me at thirty and I drew back.
I stopped him but didn’t have a shot. He moved forward and I stopped him again.
Sharp quartering away angle, aimed just ahead of his hip. Quick shot.
Let him sit an hour and went to look.
Not a ton of blood at first but found two thirds of the shaft and tip and a little further up the rest of the shaft and fletching. They looked great and shortly thereafter we found the deer.
Certainly not a giant but I’m pumped to get him. Have worked hard the last six days and am looking forward to a couple days off before heading back to work.
Good luck everyone, awesome time of year!IMG_0767.thumb.JPG.ff0413c2e8e8e4d7d9f80ce89d70cd14.JPGIMG_0765.thumb.JPG.0dae12a7926930daf1cfa42d51a22ee2.JPG

  9. Not saying they can’t try. Bucks are ready as soon as velvet drops. Unless does can carry viable sperm for two weeks, conception does not happen this week. Not my research but decades of backdating fetuses. Now I will listen to a buck “locking down” on a doe group and bedding close by so he can keep tabs and do some checking come low light. In the end who cares, the time is now. Get in a tree!

That’s what I mean by lockdown mode , doe in the sanctuary where man can’t go , older more mature bucks lying close by waiting for her to get hungry again. And or chasing off the irritating smaller buck ...

  10. I believe that we are in the lock down for most big boys right now. Have heard of multiple sightings of big deer breading doe's the last two days. Had a good one at 35 yards locked right with a doe last night but they were in no hurry. My vacation starts Wednesday, and if my assumption is correct, should be perfect timing for the big ones to leave their 1st girlfriends of the season and looking for the next.

After literally not seeing a doe in two full days In the woods in 8R , and only seeing one small 4 point twice I also believe they are in lockdown mode also Matt , I’m betting a few days of winterizing , then back at it Wednesday through ... GOODLUCK
