  1. Tommy sent an arrow a little after 4.
Snowing and in very thick stuff.
Wasn’t thrilled with the shot, backed out.
Arrow looked good to me but tough call.
Snowing and lots of yotes in the area.
    Nasty thick stuff too.
Went back after dinner and found her.
    Very relieved.

  4. Well it’s been a long good season... shot three coyotes during bow season. Drew back on a decent buck but no ethical shot to take. Got to hunt with my younger cousin for the first time this year as I believe she has a passion for the sport and got to see a bunch of deer as well. With Covid present the safest thing to do seem to be to go hunting. Brought my wife out this Saturday all day hunting for the first time deer hunting with me( we coyote hunt together late season). Didn’t see much but Sunday she really pushed me to go hunt Sunday evening for the last day of regular season, so I did. Ended up getting lucky and filling my tag. Hunting by myself tonight did not make it easy to pick up the buck and get it in the back of my truck however. 6. Decided to take a last sit last night to end the late muzzleloader season. Had a racked buck step out into the field at 250 yards. I had previously used my rangefinder and knew approximate distance. Using BDC scope I put the bottom circle on him using my monopod rest. I couldn’t see anything due to smoke and had no idea really where he ran but did see the other deer run away. Searched last night revealed nothing. No hair, blood or even tracks as snow is very spotty.
Took my wife with me this morning to search again. After an hour no sign of tracks, blood or hair. Continued to search a wet swampy area where they can out and then returned into some the brushy swale where I saw the other deer head. Decided to make one more big loop and the call it quits. Sure enough my wife finds it![emoji3]. It had traveled around 250 yards and left no sign at all. It was hit back and in the liver with no external bleeding.
God was with us!!!! I had prayed earlier that If I had hit it we would find it and if not it would be fine. My wife said she prayed right before she found it. God is good!IMG_1938.thumb.JPG.ad737547ffa640d4327ab0f948b522a4.JPGIMG_1927.thumb.JPG.b5b0b212f468109eb4cf21a581abd624.JPG

  8. Took this guy December 1st. My first deer with a pistol and probably equal to my nicest buck. I took the shot at 4:15 and it felt like a good one. I didn’t see the buck crash but it looked like he was struggling. The pistol was so loud that my ears were ringing so much I couldn’t here him crash either. I went up to look for sign before dark but couldn’t find anything. I walked back to the house, had some food and called my dad. He came over and we went back up to look. It had started snowing now so I was concerned we would lose what sign there may be. Nothing, couldn’t even find dig up tracks from him running. It is a small block of woods behind my house so I knew if he was dead he’d be in there. We gridded it where I saw him heading but still nothing. At this point I was sick, thinking I had either missed the buck or made a bad shot. I called a couple buddies and went back to the house to wait for them. The three of us went back in and started from the shot area again and Cody was able to find some running tracks. After following them a bit I was able to find some blood and my confidence was restored. But still unsure of the hit. The trail picked up and was pretty easy to follow slowly. We got to a spot where we lost blood for a while, but I made an arc and found some more. The trail picked up pretty good again and I was able to find some foamy blood on some goldenrod. Now I felt a lot better. We followed a few more spots and looked up 10 yards away to see my buck dead as could be and covered in snow. The shot was right behind the shoulder and smashed both lungs. I just was looking about 10 yards to close at the initial site of the shot. The buck didn’t make it 100 yards before piling up. The shot was from about 70 yards. Super happy I stuck with it and finally got a deer with the pistol, and a hell of a deer at that! This is the first time I’ve killed a deer that I “had history” with, I have his sheds from at least 2 years but potentially 3. To think that he avoided hunters all those years and I was the one that was in the right place at the right time still stuns me. Hope you enjoy the read, good luck and safe hunting!

There is a small window on one side of knock that you can use a pen tip arrow target tip or in the field another broad head tip to depress twords knock end and it will go off

  12. November 24 am
    37 degrees
    SW wind 5-10 mph
    Cloudy skies

Went into the thick stuff for the morning sit and only ended up seeing one small buck. And if course it was early. Starting to already see the deer activity come to a screeching hault. Its amazing that it really doesn't take much for the mature deer to realize it's gun season. Fingers need to be crossed that you have a hot doe around.

  13. Great buck
? I hit a huge buck tonight at 4:30 around 100yrds. He kicked and ran maybe 20 yrds lost sight in thick stuff. Was using .270. Hard to find blood was dealing with a down pour. Thought he went down. So didnt find anything. Going back in am to canvas woods. It would be 1st buck lost in a long time. When u hit a deer and the back end kicks up what does that mean?

    Means it hurt.. good luck

  14. Here's a hunting story.... No short version... For the last 10 days I've been down at a buddy's camp.... Been pretty slow... Saw a bunch of small bucks but nothing crazy.... Very few Does as they were herded up on the other side of the property...
Passed on 4 bucks yesterday and one early this AM. About 815 a decent 8 walked by me super close ( I had my eyes closed so he didn't look into my soul..... He was that close). As he got by me into a thicket, I took the shot... Admittingly it was a really bad shot. Buck hunched up... Wobbled then layed down.. 30 minutes of him laying in thicket not moving, I slowly club down. As I get to the bottom rung of my stand, I hear 3 crashes in the thicket... Dang it hes still alive!.... I knew he was in trouble, so I snuck back to camp... Paced the carpets, called some lifelines to talk me off the ledge and waited for friends to get back for assistance...
About 3 hrs later, we started the track... No blood! WTF! Found a fresh bed in snow... Then followed fresh tracks... There he is! Sitting up looking at me! As he was going to stand up I Raised up the .44 mag and let him have it.
First shot was a deflection off a branch. Bullet went into him in front of back leg, traveled forward and got the gut and liver.
What a week long adventure... Huge thanks to the Johnson Family for having me back down this year. Great friends... Lots of laughs... Getting a deer is a bonus1122201145.thumb.jpeg.ede5bf9ce7179636bdb6321e6de6deef.jpeg1122201144c.thumb.jpeg.4173cd3ef9da8c3d00680cf186f2b3c6.jpeg

  15. Well my kid got it done this afternoon.
Long story, short he wasn't even planning on hunting this afternoon. Around 130 he was inquiring about hunting. I told him he had two stands he could hunt with this east wind. He ask me which stand would I hunt. I told him I would hunt the set I hunted this morning. The other stand choice you may see more deer but the other one your bound to see the right deer. And boy did he see the right deer. Just as he was approaching the stand he saw a doe pop up. He dropped to one knee and then he noticed there were five bucks all around her. He picked out the biggest and let it fly.
Proud dad moment for sure. His biggest to date.
