  1. Just picked up 6 more today...over looked all others!!! Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  2. I bought 2 Rapala reels on a recommendation from a sales rep of one of these big box joints. I picked up 2 shimanos for rigging later. Can you just buy a rod specifically for wire? Don't feel like making modifications...rather just get one ready to go from a known manufacturer. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  3. I am a newbie to the game as of last year...I bought 4 of the okuma blue diamonds 10' just to get started. I agree...the reel seats loosen off and you have to keep tightening them. They feel like they want to break so I just snug them up and check them constantly. They feel a little horse whip like as well. Nothing worse then reel wobble!!!! 4. I use the alligator clip clamp for mounting on my trolling motor at the front to get a whole view of the boat and down fishing rods along with the roll bar mount. The suction cup works great for all other positions. Never mind settings...someone be kind enough to tell me why they don't make these stupid mounts that swivel? Why do I have to add those extra dumb pieces to turn my view. MAKE THEM. SWIVEL!!! Sent from my iPad using Lake Ontario United
  5. ...and nothing anywhere near that size. Jealous! I can't buy a big fish. Bunch of shakers and 1 lucky 17 pounder about 3 weeks ago. Newbie to Lake O. Just learning but hooked. I want a fish like that! NICE! Sent from my iPad using Lake Ontario United
  6. Wow! That's a beauty! Trolled the bluffs for the first time Sunday...one king 2 x bigger then my spoon. I have been out there for a year and half Sent from my iPad using Lake Ontario United
  7. 4 pm Sunday afternoon...I'm out here right now putting my time in. Clouds are rolling in and the wind is picking up. I guess the best time to fish is whenever you have time. Nothing yet and may have to bail due to weather. Don't feel like swimming today or any other for that matter. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  8. Hey gang I realize that first and last light are going to be peak times to catch fish. Can you not catch salmon in Lake Ontario all day? I mean...what are the charter boats doing? They are out there in the middle of the day right? Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  9. I spent a week at the French river just north of there in July. Caught walleyes all day on worms and spin N glows. Used the minn Kota I pilot to slowly troll through the weeds. Recorded the track and the trolling motor did the rest. Fun. The spin N glow worked great...floats off bottom and spins at slow speed. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  10. Hey Tim I am running 40lb mono. Guilty as charged! I have hear of braid being used but like I said, this whole lake O salmon game is new to me. Already bought rods/reels/lures/dodgers/spin doctors/riggers etc...guess I cheaped out on the most important part of the game. Do you use a mono backing or just load power pro??? Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  11. Maybe I'll try the dipsies again some day but just got 2 new cannon mag 10 stx riggers installed and I am currently learning how to use them. Have only been out once with them for a four hour troll and caught 2 fish over 20 lbs. dipsies have their place I'm sure...riggers seem easier. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  12. I know they are different. Just thought I'd add my 2 cents on divers...whether that were dipsies...pink ladies etc. I just haven't had much luck with them. I am a newbie and just started fishing salmon in lake O last year. I only ever catch shakers with the dipsies. You must have things dialed in and they work for you. Tried dipsies and torpedoes...nothing. Still learning and scratching my head. Good luck with the jet divers and let us know how you make out. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  13. I still have a box of dipsies but what a hassle. Wouldn't flatlining or running riggers at 40'-60' do the trick?? Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  14. Haven't been there in years. Used to catch big walleye there in the fall. Had to be very cold in the fall And then they would turn on. If you Were comfortable...no fish!!! Very cold=big fish!! Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  15. Wow not a good idea dude. The weather man has been soooo wrong these days. I would suggest you stay close to land around river mouths in early September on calm days. That I would do. Go catch so bass and don't mess around with The Great lakes. Fish smart!!! Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  16. I ran dipsies all last year and the only thing I caught were a handful of Shakers. Had cannon mag 10 stx installed this year. Went out once 3 weeks ago for a 4 hour troll...poked 2 chinooks over twenty pounds! Luck of the draw? Not sure but have a lot of confidence in riggers right now. Now if the wind/weather would cooperate...I could try again. Good luck. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  17. Might just head to sail and pick up some more gear and watch the race...maybe safer Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  18. Might launch out of port credit this afternoon. Calling for light winds. Looking at the lake right now...looks dead calm but they're calling for chance of shower in the afternoon and you just never know what's going to blow up on you out there. Rather be cautious and not go then get caught in a down pour. Thx for the warning. No fish is worth the swim. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  19. Thx for all the tips. Yeah I think I will try to keep it as simple As possible until I get used to The way things work. Don't think I'm brave enough to go anywhere near bottom right now. Targeting chinooks anyway. May head out this afternoon depending on weather. Keep you posted. Thx again. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  20. Hey LOU gang. Just picked up 2 cannon Mag STX down riggers. Never used riggers before. Looking for some set up tips. Was thinking to set 1 ball deep (say 90') with a fixed cheater at around 60' and the second Ball at 70' with a fixed cheater at 50' to cover the water column. Sound good or will I just spook fish and beg for a nightmare tangle? Any tips from you experts would make life easier Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  21. Boat is in for warranty repairs this week. Not sure how to PM anyway...newbie. Wouldn't happen till next week. Thx anyway Sent from my iPad using Lake Ontario United
  22. Hey LOU gang I always fish out of port credit...was thinking about trying the bluffs. Where can you launch? Is all the water fishable? Heard something about the drop?? Any tips? Sent from my iPad using Lake Ontario United
  23. I have the humminbird 798 SI combo. I use it split screen (depth/SI) trolling for walleyes or casting for bass. Let's you follow the shoreline contour and is helpful to stay the right distance away from mid lake structure. I don't use it all that often but a nice feature to have. Sometimes I will use it conjunction with the navionics to pinpoint humps etc. Great unit. I don't think there is that much difference in price and it was found money...never use it the Great Lakes. Can't see a need for it out there. Probably useless in 200 FOW. The Navionics chip is a big help...saves the hassle of referencing hydrographic charts for the most part. 24. Doubles??? What??? Just hooking one would be nice!!! Sent from my iPad using Lake Ontario United
  25. How bout temp/speed probe? Do you use them? Are the needed? Sent from my iPad using Lake Ontario United
