  1. Premium fuel and stabilizer ALWAYS!
  2. I always launch from Lakefront Promenade in Mississauga at first light and I'm usually off the water by noon as the bite dies down. I have a buddy that hates early mornings so he never goes. I know if I could hook him into one screamer he would be hooked. Is there an afternoon bite as well or is it just hit and miss?
  3. I run leadcore 400' back and I'm constantly on watch to avoid other boats even if it means I have to stay on the outside of the fleet. 400' is a lot to ask and I'd hate to ruin my day or someone else's by squeezing my way through especially with 40-50 boats in one area. Most people give room off the stern but you get the odd one who will cut it some what close causing me to cross my fingers and prey they don't catch my lines. Not sure which party would be at fault.
  4. Hey Gang what is the proper leader length for flies...I forget. Thx for the help.
  5. I have mag 10's. They hold 20lb weights I believe. Picked up 2 x 15lb Sharks at the end of last season due to a severe tangle using 11lb pancakes. Sharks run true with a lot less blowback. Problem free so far.
  6. That's what I thought! I'll find a way to attach the Gopro to the cable...McGiver!!! Sorry to hear the shark loss...damn things are expensive. Went out today and Saturday...nothin but big waves!!!!
  7. Crazy rednecks! Looks like a ball though!!! Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  8. Headed out yesterday to try out the Sharks. The lake was big and rolling huge. Sharks were awesome. Stayed pretty much directly under the boat and I could actually see them on the finder. No fish on anything! Lots of weed 50-100 FOW. Lures snarled most of the day and too rough to be checking them every 10 minutes. Caught the air show as a consultation...thinking about drilling a hole in the shark tail to accommodate a Gopro. Anyone tried that? Will it mess up shark tracking? 9. Port credit boy here...long way to go to save my sorry butt. AAA/CAA on the water...good idea!
  10. One of my biggest fears! Not so much breaking down but having to take time out of someone else's day to lend a helping hand. It will happen to everyone towed/towing if your out there long enough. Big water gets ugly fast and you just can't leave somebody a drift. Almost happen to me last weekend when canon balls got tangled. Thank god cables didn't get caught in the prop and I managed to get undone but for a moment I thought I might have to ruin someone's day! Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  11. Found some sharks at JB tackle. Picked up 2 x 15# chrome extremes. How far back should I run rigs as I believe they work as an attractor? Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  12. Anyone know where I can pick up some torpedoes in the Toronto area. Checked sail and they only have 7 pounders.
  13. Thx boys. I think the mystery has been solved. The pancakes were running perfectly last outing but one did take a tumble off the back deck as I was breaking everything down yesterday (thx to the jerk in the cruiser 40' off my port). I did notice them both tracking slightly toward the shoot today. I will look into replacing with more solid balls. Leadcore rules!!! BTW I thought I caught a juvenile Atlantic today...couldn't be sure. Is that possible? Common? Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  14. Aha makes sense. Bit of a googan here and this is only my third season. I went with pancakes on the recommendation from the boys at my local tackle shop. I like them as I can drill an additional hole in the flat plate to accommodate a Gopro (didn't use it today although that would have been what I needed to see). Should I replace with new pancakes (maybe heavier) or is there another style ball someone can recommend??? Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  15. Ok here the scenario: Launched out of port credit early this morning. Lowered the gear, 2 leadcores, 2 cannon mag 10's with 4' arms fully extended and an 8' foot beam...11lb pancakes with agitators 1' off the ball...spoons back 10-20'. 250 FOW. Port ball down 58' starboard down 79'. Trolled for an hour. Caught a shaker off the starboard rigger. When I raised the starboard ball the clutch on the rigger started to engage. I finally got it to the surface with a wtf look on my face and noticed the port rigger cable was hooked on the starboard rigger swivel...confused yet? Sudden noise, confusion and shaking before I realized that the port cable was tangled and was now rapidly sinking. Killed the motor! Port ball sank and cable went across the back of the merc before coming to a sudden stop! 1/2 hour to float and resolve. Ended up pulling port ball in by hand, cutting 50' of twisted mangled cable, re rigging a new cannon connector to continue. What would have caused this? There was no erratic turn. Trolling straight ahead! Are currents that strong at times to move an 11bl pancake 16' to cause a tangle? Nessie???? Anybody got an idea??? BTW fishing has been awesome out there the last 3 weekends in a row!!! Leadcore out fished everything else 10-1!!!!! Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  16. Hey LOU gang, I was thinking of hauling the boat up to Adolphus reach in the bay of Quinte next fall. Just doing a little research to put it all together. Anybody have some suggestions as to where the best place to stay and launch might be? I was hoping to find something where I could stay on the water and dock the boat for a few days. 17. I just figured that the balls would spook fish so keep hardware back away from it. I will tighten everything up around 2-3' and see what happens. I guess they really don't care. Just finished mounting my GoPro camera on the pancake balls and plan on lowering it down tomorrow. May shed some light as to what is really going on. Keep you posted as to my findings... 18. I'm having a ball (no pun intended) using the riggers. Less hassle then the dipsies. Glad to hear cannon stands behind their product. I guess I will experiment with distance from the ball tomorrow. Try 1 in close and 1 a little further back. I tie all my flies 18-21" as per advise from LOU nation. I have checked the bases and all is good so far. I did kink a cable yesterday so now I will have to re-rig the swivel end after I cut some back. Not looking forward to that...looks like a pain and I'm afraid I won't do it properly and send a pancake to the bottom. Sent from my iPad using Lake Ontario United
  19. Did you loose the rigger or the base just cracked? I have mine on 4" extension stands so I don't have to hunch over all day. They are new this year. How old are yours? Sent from my iPad using Lake Ontario United
  20. Oh I'll be out there! I refuse to give up. I'm totally into it. I'm a newbie to salmon on lake O and ran dipsies last year with only a handful of shakers to show for it. Installed Cannon Mag 10's this year and poked a teen within the first hour of trolling with the riggers...thought it was going to easy from then on. I have put a ton of hours in off Port Credit with very little to show for it. Still have lots to learn and I guess everyone is feeling that the bite is slow this year! Should have had more bites by now. I'll be out again Sunday. Sent from my iPad using Lake Ontario United
  21. New to riggers...wondering how far back from the ball to put spin docs/flies Flashers/spoons? I have been letting out about 25' and then grabbing the line where I can (maybe a 10' rod length) and then putting it in the release...so the hardware is probably 15' behind the ball. Haven't had much luck. 1 king 17 lbs and one twice as long as my spoon. Any suggestions? Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  22. Super! Looks like I picked the perfect year to back off on the Bass/Walleyes and launch close to home in the big O. Spent millions on rods/reels/ tackle/down riggers and now this? I can't buy a decent fish! Sounds like a great time to be the newbie learning every time out. Not giving up! Bound and determined to land a good one! Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  23. I have a big box for musky lures. Have had it for twenty years. Holds a lot of big baits...not as many as yours (BTW...you have a problem-musky rehab??). Anyway no cuddy or ceiling here. Open to all the elements. Keep flies on something you might wrap worm harnesses on only bigger. I'll look for the box to hold spin docs and flashers. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  24. Anyone have any tips for a newbie to store tackle neatly? I have a plastic tackle box I picked up from sail last year for spoons and another bigger box for dodgers/flashers/dipsies/flies etc. Everything gets tangled and it's hard to do an inventory. What a pain. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  25. Wow! Beauty! I'd kill for anything bigger then a shaker or high teens. NICE! Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
