Get over it and move on .
Probably was Gators fault anyway.
We all know what kind of a devious trouble maker he can be 🤣🤣

It's all part of the fun !!

We got out crack of dawn
Stayed close .
Went 1 for 3 on kings and then picked up and boogied in to beat the rain .
2 flasher Gary D rigs and a copper back NKMag which has been great .

I will say this , and I have been doing this a long time .
Sometimes you get pushed to do be places you don't want to be . One boat will be headed one way and the other another and all of a sudden you are in a precarious place with nowhere to go. Especially with an inexperienced driver on any of the boats . You really have to look ahead and anticipate what other boats are doing .And even that will sometimes get you in trouble . More than once I have had to push it up to 6 MPH to get out of trouble because another boat cut in front of would not give space .

New ones are junk IMO .
Much better options that might cost more , but maybe cheaper in the long run .
Older ones were better
A freind broke off second trip . That's not user error .
It's kind of insulting to say that

I have been using mine for years . Never have they slipped down the line and mine slides on a 50 ft section of 30# big game .
it can only be 2 things . Either the wrong tubing the arm pinches down on or the arm is bent and not putting enough pressure and pinching the line enough.

I have no idea what you guys are doing to lose probes..... I have been running cannon downriggers for 20+ years and never lost a probe. I am anal about checking for kinks, and frays. If you have a kink or fray in the cable and you continue to run your probe on that rigger you can't blame Cannon or their equipment.
So there you have it , user error . Must be you guys don't know how to properly use downriggers .
You trying to tell me when they tested these units they were not aware how abruptly they stop and what could happen ? Why not supply a snubber ? Big money in downrigger weights and new probes .

Herbie the heavy weight
I used them for years

My neighbor told me he likes his depth raider . It was half the price . So I bought one .
So far , I love it . And the 500$ I saved.
Glaciers move faster the the old Proos I have on my boat . And I love them for it .

Did the Brown thing this morning after waiting out the rain and a western omelette . Rods were going right away . Landed about 12 to 15 , we lost track . Lost sone more . Had one king on the ripped out a bunch of line and flew out of the water . Glo frog again among others . Even got 2 on my slide diver with an Andy Reeker.

Add another lost probe to cannon downriggers . This has become chronic .
CDS, Cannon Downrigger Syndrome. .
I personally know guys that have lost 7 probes to them . That's 7 probes at 400$ + , 7 weights at 40$ + and 7 releases at 10+ . And snaps and crimps . Add it up .
-
Are you using newer Cannon riggers?

We started in close ,75 ft . Good pic lots of bait . 2 hits in there on the same Glo Frog 85 down
Got some Intel from west and decided to work out way out
160 ft, dipsy at 240 goes , Glo Frog on that . 15 # king
Decided to put all Glo Frog stuff down . Had a 5 F Evil eye I doctored up to look like a Glo Frog . Let it out on my #5 Chinook diver. Wasn't out there 10 min . 17# king .
Let it back out 10 minutes later it goes again . Another nature but gets into the rigger and broke off . Good
Luck finding another one of those spoons .
Then we had to leave . 2 for 5 hits .

The Smallmouth fishing is better east of the Genny and best from let's say Pulttneyville and Sodus east because of all the structure / bottom there . The Browns orient to the same things. And they stock more that area also .
Why is it that it's always the stream guys who are the scapegoats for why the fishing may be bad a particular year ? I see pics of coolers and boards full of browns from lake guys all the time on here. When I fish the tribs I rarely see guys keeping fish . Almost all are C& R. Granted there are outlaws .
So put it to bed already .

I also use 30# big game . It seems to work OK . When I first started using heavy line I used 40 # Mason mono. Cheap snagging line . It worked great . Probably because it was a larger diameter than good line of the same # test . $2.49 did 4 reels . Then at the end of the season I put I back on the spool and used it the next season . When the fleas showed up I put it back on. Never had a problem with it. Spend the money if you want , but you don't have to .

Sun morning got out first light to East wind . Did well yesterday in 80 to 90. So if it ain't broke don't fix it and started in 70 and worked out . Hooked up pretty much immediately.
Nice brown and teens king . Rods fired steady till we pulled at 745 as it got sporty .
Did 6 browns
3 good kings
1 laker
Dropped a few more .
No shakers today
Everything worked . Riggers and dipeys . I had some copper color NK mags that they hit . Glow frog again also.

We had a great morning
My son and I fished for browns
Fished 80 to 110
Did about 20 hits landed I think 14
Riggers mostly . My neighbor Charlie Chick gave me a Downrigger rod his Dad made. So I had to use it . Parked it at 85 ft . We landed 10 of the 14 fish we caught on it . Some good vibes there . Glow frog was best .
3 good browns
5 or 6 2 year old kings
I laker
.the rest shakers.
Last and biggest fish hit my diver and ripped out to 450 . My son was bringing the fish in and the reel locked up . I didn't know what to do so I hand lined it in from 250 while my son wrapped the line around the rod holder. What a fiasco. 18# king .

A standard drill bit should be fine . If they are tap thread instead of machine with nut / washer it is important to use the right size bit .Too small and the screw might snap . Too big it won't bite . Nut and washer you can go a hair bigger .
Buy a set of bits at the big box so you make sure you have the right one.
Drill straight . And if the mount has 4 holes make sure the drilled holes are centered on the Ram base . Easier said than done .

Appreciate the help but I couldn’t catch my ass with 3 hands today. 3 for 6 and nothing over 8 lbs. Wouldn’t bother me but I had a guy and his two teenage sons with him. Sucks
Highlight of the trip was towing in a pontoon boat that had broke down. Amazed at the folks that drove right by him. Good karma and I will always stop to help a fellow boater. I’ve been on the receiving end myself.
We all have days like today .More than I would like to admit. Mine wasnt much better . Some days they just don't want to hit. And you can't make them .

4 good kings and a coho plus a few more rips . No particular bait was the one . Spoons and Gary D rigs all took shots . Divers and riggers .
I have a copper back doctored 42 second Mag that has catches fish each trip. .
