  1. Anything on the water is priced astronomical . Houses being sold for 2 to 6 million $ . They level them and put a 3 to 12 million $ house on a postage stamp size lot on  a canal that attaches to Naples bay with access to the ocean  . I saw boats , lots of them that dwarf anything in LO.a lot of big center console. One that had  2 600 hp outboards  . I saw houses on Naples bay up to 50 million . My nephew sells real estate so he kind of knows . If I did not see it with my own eyes I would not believe it .

I saw boats from the Keys up washed up on rocks .  Naples  did not get it as bad as Ft Myers .

  2. Just got home from a 9 day ride to Key west and back . Down the east coast of FLA and bak up the west with stops in between. Saw a lot  . Those pics are my nephews boat he made from scratch from carbon fiber.  Its 30 ft with 2 jacked up 300 hp mercs . It tops at about 110 mph . Weighs in at about 1600 lbs

The other is a new one he is working on and he has orders for 17 more . He also is making custom racing parts for merc motors . I was impressed .

Took a boat ride around Naples bay . A lot of dead fish floating from the Red Tide. It made us cough. Saw a 42 ft center console with 4 400 hp outboards . The money down there is absolutely insane .

And the best thing , I never wet a line

  3. The question was trolling with or into the wind . Wind causes waves and current . So I feel the better question is with or into the waves . If there is breeze with a small chop , you can troll any way you want and direction relative to wind and current is probably most important . But if it gets a little snotty or gets to the point of you are ready to pull lines and head in , having a stable fishing platform able to get a stable speed is probably most important . So with or into are my best options . Trolling sideways to waves pretty much sucks . And you are going have to fish into it at least sometime , so master it and make the best of it .

Also IMO , fish , especially lake fish , kings and steelhead in particular , use current to there advantage probably more than we know . They have no problem maintaining and holding position in water of there choosing that has  nutrients and baitfish plentifully . This is historically proven.  .

Most springs , most kings are west . Summers they are midlake , and fall

( at least after they stopped raising kings at Calidonia) most are east . If they just got pushed around by the prevailing west to east current , the best king fishing would be on the east end and we know that's not the case.

A lot of guys ask what spoon or flasher or dipseys or whatever . But presentation as stated above is the most important thing . And that comes a mostly from boat control .

  4. There is a difference between a light breeze and a 3 ft chop . I see it as either going with the waves or against  . Trolling sideways to the waves is uncomfortable and unsafe .

I speed up on turns to get back in line.

If there is a west wind and I hookup and turn around to get back to my waypoint , it can take what's seems forever . Then I get past my spot and turn around and fly back past it  in half or less the time it took to get back. while maintaining my down speed . You can be a mile or more  past the waypoint by the time you land the fish

To be good at this salmon trolling thing  , you need to be able to catch fish going into the wind .

On a good chop , I drive  . You sometimes have to kick the speed up to maintain a heading and keep your lines straight . Mt dipseys seem to shine on those days . When I drive I turn around and watch to make sure they are behind the boat .

  5. I use to catch most of my fish trolling with the wind . Untill. I learned how to fish into the waves .  A lot of days I catch more going into the waves . Down speed is a big help for this . And a limited spread is also important .

But the most important thing is a good driver , which is pretty much everything .And out of frustration  , it's usually me . The boat can't be wagging back and forth . Your lines have to be tight to get the right speed at your baits , especially your dipseys. And I would guess your coppers ,etc.

On days there is a heavy current your SOG could be 5 mph . If you trolled with it all morning you could start at Sandy and wind up in Rochester . So you have to troll into it more than half the time . So learn how to do it .

  6. I ran the numbers as best I could and I figured Bruce was breaking even or it was costing him money to run the place when he had it .

I don't know how many of you run your own businesses , but the cost of doing business has skyrocketed the last few years .

  7. Should be no problem getting in and out as far as depth is concerned .

Probably needs an afternoons work with a pole saw to clear out the overhanging limbs which really aren't to bad .

He has done a fair amount of work over there on and off the last few months .

The bigger area has been cleared of all the old falling down docks . He has a barge in there to work off of .

Still a lot of work to be done but it's a good start .

  8. I think an elevation would also be good info for the those that are new .

Kind of like a set of blueprints

To see how the depths that each rig covers in relation to what is running next to it to minimize tangles and get the best water coverage .

What saddens me in this case is that we do not seem to learn of our previous mistakes.

First we dumped PCBs by the thousands of tons into our lakes and streams and made fish inedible and gave a lot of the polluters a free ride to make bigger profits by not having to clean up after themselves and now we find out that the same was done with these forever chemicals. As long as big money has big political power we will just keep on having our precious resources polluted so more profit can be made.

We all want and use all this modern stuff that makes our lives better and gives us higher standards of living cheaper .And everybody, everybody, wants cheaper.  Our clothes, homes , vehicles , boats . Even the plastic lures and the paints on them . Everything is plastic or some sort of composite . The production process of these materials are extremely invasive . These " profit mongers "are giving us exactly what we want .

  10. I to use know a guy that use to eat a ton of LO fish of all kinds . Sadly he died mysteriously one day . Quite possibly from what was described . He was 97 years old.

As far as food allergies etc in children. After getting in my eat healthy kick a few years back I started to read the ingredients on the labels  at the advice of a nutritionalist. It amazes me the amount of crap we are feeding ourselves and our children we call food .

And we are worried about some fresh fish ?

  11. I agree with Whaler

Downriggers are the center of any small boat trolling system , especially for newbies IMO  . I love mine on my 16 ft . Easy to deploy and are precise with depth , no guessing like with dipsys .

If you were to get dipsys , make one a

    Braid slide driver IMO .

If you are fishing spring , planer boards are nice .

Some sort of down  speed and temp is a great investment .
