  1. Iv’e used altas mikes alewife , herring with good success. Last 2 seasons I used the water based procure in alewife that Rob suggested, after catching fish this especially this year mag spoons were buried in the salmon and often left blood on spoon so i rinse spoon and spritz once with scent and put back out . I did find you need to wash and dry spoons after using atlas mikes or it goes rancid in tackle box due to oil content I guess but I find scent certainly does not hurt we caught kings to 18 derby week out front of Wilson .Just my honest opinion.
  2. Lots of great observations and points .I’m an out of stater that remembers mexico launch dropping in about 50 boats an hour , had some time away from lake but been back 5 years now on west end . I used to see many boats on drive to NY now none ! Even at lodging only half of the guys are even in the derby and I hate to say it but its all old guys like me (64) not sure what landscape will look like 10 yrs down the road .I like Brians approach go after each specie in derby and hope I live long enough in retirement to try that. Old prizes f150 2- boats equipped and cash bash to pay taxes was a hell of a prize package .Old days are just that but in age of information I think they could do some advertising and get some more interest it’s a hell of a fishery and maybe someday monster 30 plus will be back but I was up spring derby week and never had so many doubles and triples.
  3. Good news thanks I didn’t know , hoping the lake is a little calmer next week .
  4. Thanks for the new format report ,I watched yesterday and appreciate the info I only get to the lake twice a year and try to soak up any imput I can from you guys fortunate to live on such great fishery . Is there any possibility matures will follow soon ? It seems like bigger browns come a few weeks after the season starts . Or maybe more people out a few weeks later. Also read matures are first to show up , it is concerning no 20 lb king caught yet in Canadian Tourney , hoping just long cold winter .Loc derby will tell storey I guess .After reading bait survey info one would think theres enough food for robust growth . Thx Rich
  5. Thank you , I have an array of releases scotty, lauverick and others. I see amish on a lot of charters so figured they weeded through most manufacturers and found them reliable so I converted . I did find a older dirty goose video explaining how they use them with lines of different lb. Test and coppers that was very infomative . Thx Gil
  6. Hi guys, I am converting to these as big board releases this year and have a few questions 1-when pulling 3-400’ copper do I use rubber band (if so what size band?) or clip braid backer directly into release ? 2-are rubber bands strickly for mono lines ? Thx in advance
  7. Well done ! Thx for the detailed report , there is hope.
  8. Yes thats the beauty of it , bearings are greased . Castle nut has cotter pin in with slight bend and bearing buddy has some grease in it but not pumped up. As mcf mentioned a cable locked through spare rim and around trailer tongue will keep it from spinning and and deter someone from unbolting it . Today though if someone wants anything bad enough they will get it .Having parts for roadside issue is my mission . My jack box now includes wheel chocks and everything else I had to unpack truck to get to which will now be last thing in tailgate .
  9. Yes ,agreed Thieves suck ! but I can put a cable lock on it to keep the honest guy honest but what I loved about this set up is I couldn’t forget to bring hub on the trip . So much to pack for Ontario trips as it is I always forget something .
  10. I spent some time on the side of road in Rochester this year and it led me to be more prepared for trailing issues . In looking for a just in case spare hub and bearings to keep in the truck to cover that if it ever happens I spoke with Carnai trailers in Wa. were my trailer came from and they told years ago they made carrier w/ spare carrier with hub attached on spindle w/ castle nut cotter pin and bearing buddy on it . I sent a be picture of my axle to confirm size / bearings / lug pattern and they made for one for me . On trailer and I might not ever need but when you get time to trailer to go fishing the side of the road is bad place to be .325.00 shipped . Great people and nice product just thought I would mention to guys who travel far to fish .
  11. Good to hear a positive report thanx for detailed report . Nice work!
  12. Thanks Matt I like the squid teaser idea , I don’t always have extra twinkies on hand . Appreciate the info on meat I’m still struggling with it .
  13. As an out of stater I just wanted to say thank you to all of people involved the pen project set ups , feedings and those who communicate with state agencies to make the lake fishing what it is today .Life is busy and you all manage to find the time to make the fishing better for everyone ,and hats off to the Lotsa team . Thank you

  17. 🤣Thanks !! Another Saltist will have to wait until next winter ! I got to the Niagara show for first time and got the Reel in which I had to use the $25 dollar fish usa coupon for the wire rod plus feed my spoon fedish !! Being close to needing knee replacement I can’t beg anymore .As far as backing on 40 saltist it has 120’ more capacity of 40 lb braid than Tekota 600 so I am going to put on 110’ of 17lb triline on tight and put 1000’ wire and it should fill it maybe even trim some .Thank you for the advice I apreciate it .Good to see ice melting on satelite images . Counting the days to loc derby.
  18. Thank you , I only have one right now that works awesome when have 2 of the same ! Can i give you my wifes number?
  19. Hi Guys sorry to be so needy but I picked up a Diawa Saltist 40 and have bloodrun 65 lb braid for backing but I’m not sure how much to put on to properly fill reel and only want to do it once . I am putting 1000’ of Torpedo 7 strand over braid . Thank you for help.
  20. Thanks guys l have not gotten to roller rod level yet but maybe some day , also I’m not quick enough to snatch up an older Tekota 700 missed a couple in last 4 months ! I think I’m going to pick up Saltist 40 seriesLC at show if one is available . Really appreciate your input from you guys who do it daily . Thank you
  21. Big thanks from a small boat guy! Last year I was sweating bullets running a 3rd wire diver (fearing expensive tangle )after no issuses using 1 and 3 settings on 124mm divers on calm waters, the results some days makes me want a 4th . Also a perfect excuse to sample a Saltist if she asks 🤣
  22. Thank you for the confirmation on capacity Richard , apprieciate you all for taking the time to respond .
  23. Thank you guys for reponses , I have okuma 303s and 2 tekotas , and lots of older reels I need one more reel for WD and heard lots of good things about Saltists wasn’t sure if they were used on wire divers .I am far from having matched gear so thought trying a Saltist couldn’t hurt anything. Appreciate the help.
  24. Good morning , I have a shimano tekota 600lc which holds 1000’ of wire and wanted to try a Diawa saltist, does their 30 series fit 1000 feet of wire or do I need to go to size 40 ? Also are their any vendors at Niagara show with reel specials ? Thank you for any input
