Nice morning at Sodus, set first lines at 6:40, back at dock at noon. Intense bite for two one hour periods, so first hour you couldnt keep lines set, pretty much a fish on for an hour straight, chaos in the boat! Then dead for two hours and they went off again for another hour. Really crazy when it was going! Good luck

Fair Haven salmon
Salty Nut replied to ski-dooz's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
For me so far this King season its been tough matching up the spoon with what they will hit, they seem to be very selective. The one consistent thing has been chrome backed spoons, no whites ot golds. So last year 42nd spoon, gold back, was a killer, this year, no interest. But a similar ladderback with chrome on the back was the only spoon hit in the last two trips. I think its an Oscar. I have a green/chrome board thats been consistant too. They seem to be very fussy and my go to conbos from the last several years just arent getti g the fish! Just a little tidbit to maybe try -
Trolling without a Fish Hawk?
Salty Nut replied to FowlMood's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
Lots of good info above If you were going to fish alot at Lake O at various ports and different times of the year i think you would really appreciate a Fishhawk. For several years i thought it was more useful thN my graph! In early August, you really dont need it, as suggested, you will see the depth range of the "regulars". So after selling my boat with the Fishhawk and knowing i was cutting back on fishing days, i bought the Fishhawk TD. Really good 200 buck investment that works great. My only other comment would be... Watch the charter guys with cheap binocs but stay away from them. Good luck Im sure i will be fishing, and i dont mind sharing intel -
Pretty much the same as last two weeks Stable temp break, very nice water. Started in 130, good bait, some fish. Hooked 8# king, in 136. Kept moving out, good bait 170 to 180, went to 225 nothing. So back in/out 180 to 130. 4 hits, three hooked, two landed. All 4 down 82 to 88. Lost a good one, not a giant. Biggest landed was about 12#. Im thinking this is going to be typical day for 2025. Good luck

Salty Nut replied to ski-dooz's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
I fished towards Fair Haven today out of Sodus. Water temps were the same as above, lots of bait in that 130 to 140, but the mature kings were in 170 to 180 down 82 to 92 -

Nice morning, water seemed great. Cold water up as high as 40' down . Started seeing fish and bait 110ish, put some lines in headed out. Hooked a small King at 175, kept going, nothing. Looped back hooked a pretty good one right in the 175ish depth. Worked a bait ball there and hooked a nice one. All three were on a Brads Super Plug. No bites on any flys or spoons. Fished about 4 hours but actually likely half becausr of the fleas and debris. Never stopped pulling and cleaning lines, Brutal

A great day to be fishing! Calm, light breeze, Easy to fish and stay in the boat! Fished about 4 hours, set up in 130 and moved out, there were fish inside and bait too but water was warm top to just off bottom. Got to 175, scumline with pretty good current, hooked a small king. Out to 225, no marks no bait. Back in around that 190 to 170, hooked three more fish, one nice one. Didnt find 50ish degree water until below about 110 down. Caught fish just under that. Did not hit the motherload but a good day to be fishing, Easy to work at it! I wanted to go offshore, but i watched several boats go out and then head right back in. Good luck

Thats when a "Safety Check" becomes getting tazed! It would be unsafely like to reach for your phone and get stuck, double pronged!
-
Interesting So in the next month or so when they set up a roadblock checkpoint to look at inspections, registrations and seat belts i can just go through it because im not doing anything to give them a reason to stop me? Get some meat behind this thing or make it optional
-
I agree, but i think if we are going to create more laws, they should have a purpose. Maybe something like " To purchase, operate, or register a boat in NYS" you must posess a valid Boater Safety certicate
-
So the boater safety course law has been widely discussed for a while now. This past week it was on local TV and radio about xtra patrols and the new laws etc. I have been on the water, Seneca, for the entire 4 or 5 days of the busiest boating week i have ever seen here. I saw sheriff patrols, and two jet ski officers too but i did not see anybody get checked or stopped. Did anybody get asked for there card, or know of anybody who did? Tons of neighbors down here that are just blowing it off. Just curious

Looking for Bimini for 2011 Hurricane 188 Sundeck, outboard. Can be just frame or whole deal. Contacted dealer and Hurricane, cant get specific info for a "drop in" replacement. Somewhere at a boat yard or marina i saw a pile of frames, just cant remember where. know its a long shot but just checking
-
So my first trip King hunting this am, finally got what looked like a fishable day but without any good reports, cant wait forever. Water was wierd, very cold on top and not much colder down temps either. Passed by the lakers and started in 130ish and fished out to 300ish Everything i saw was at 50 down or 125 down. Hooked 3, landed 2. 6 to 8 pound fish, Fished lots of different combos There were dead bait fish, but not to th ed degree that i expected from other reports. I never really had the sense that the fish were there as normal for this time of year. Sign at Tidesides/Arneys no launching from July 3 through July 8. I asked, about it, to busy that weekend Fyi

Thank you for posting the Sodus report! Its appreciated! -
Thanks for the various comment I just tried a couple things Took off the coated cable, and tested with wire cable to be sure it was grounding correctly. Took the switch out tried it in another downrigger, it was fine. So it came down to the circuit board working when IT wanted to. About half the time. Spoke with Mike at Fish307, bought the new version switch and am wiri g to motor direct, dont need the board just lose auto stop. So alls well that ends well Fish307, high end customer service!
