  1. Got out a bit late..Thermocline back down where it belongs....one rigger at 56 feet the other at 61 with sliders...the 61 foot slider pops and before I could grab the rod the aerial show begins about 8 or 10 feet off the stearn!!! Nice Bow on the slider and back in the drink!!! A bit later the 56 footer pops and air borne again but this time it was a salmon...hmmmm.... perfect size for my brand new grill I have yet to light!!! Quit while I was ahead. The wind and the projects at home made that decision easy.
  2. Seneca 7/23/2013 As soon as the rain almost stopped Kinger and I was at the launch.........set up right out of the shoot and trolled north.....lots of weeds and fleas.........after a country mile had a release and nothing....... then a bit father north 50' rigger rod come up some I move to it and it relaeses reel like heck and got it............then it makes a good run and comes off....... another country mile or so and same deal om 41' rigger rod up noone home............then a half a country mile and 50'er goes again......hook-up and land a 19" landlock........ wind starts out of northwest so I turn and head back.................never moved a rod after that...............BUT Andy called and he and his boy were................I'll let him tell YA !!!!!! 7/25... Hit it again today with Hoot...... landed a landlock right off in the 1st 10 minutes or so the nothing for over 5 miles and 20 spoon changes..............then a 30 minute HOT spot landed 2 landlocks and a bow box those three...........bigger landlock was 61' down , bow 51' and smaller landlock at 41'........ dw ss spoons ........... that ne wind was crazy out there...............down temp at 51' on east side 58* to 59*................ west side north of Long point 52* to 54*........ just south of Long Point..... 45* !!!!!!!! 7/26/2013 Seneca Back out today with Hoot kinger stayed with Carol..............went 6 bows , 1 brown , 1 laker and 3 misses............ 51' , 61' best with 71' and 91' pulling a fish ....... Bob F FLT rocked today the UV sliver alwief was best !!!!!!........... 7/27/2013 Carol got out today 1st time fishing last time out we pulled her brother in with his whole family on the boat........................well it was a tad lumpy so I set-up just off the point to stay close if it got too bad for her........Kinger already didn't like it....... 61' rigger goes with Bob Fullers UV alwife net a 23" laker for Carol making her very happy......mess around in there for bit and it lays down some so we head north...... about a hour later 61'er goes again stick and hand the rod to her and I net a 18.5" 4# + brown for her and we call it after about 1 hour and 45 minutes........
  3. Seneca 7/22/2013 Got down to the launch around 6:15 or so and messed around getting boat off trailer for 10 minute or so…..DUH…..tow line got tangled on trailer tongue……Off we go ( Kinger and I)……plan on checking a good spot for browns that has not been worth a crap since 2005 hey day………… set up out deep and stayed there for over hour and a half…… got first rigger in at 25’ second at 50’ and got line ready to hook in release on third and 50’er is throbbing……….. jumped on it and got a bow to the side of the boat about 19†shook him off and set up again………….dropped third rigger to 61’ and moved 25’er down to 41’…………..50’ goes again with a good laker 27†6+# in the box………. Middle rigger goes while I putting 50’er back in good fish another bow or landlock…….reeling 50’er rod in with one hand and holding other and loose fish…..later 41’er goes again with a bow about 17†shook it off at the side of the boat………….50’er acting funky popped it and landed a 8†bow …… then things slowed down worked into area I had planned……….61’ rigger goes but loose it after a bit felt and acted like a laker……… getting hot and Kingerboy is giving me the evil eye so I told him I’d pull up and head back to east side and work that for a hour or so………….got my bright sun stuff out and put them down out a tad deep………….bam!!! 50’ rigger goes with my bestest( Pete now your spoon hammers a big laker )bow spoon……… afte a bit land a 27.75†laker just a tad over 9#’s………box him……… after bleeding all over the boat…………..put that rod away……..and spoons I had out…….61’ rigger goes……………..18†laker put him back…………..41’ rigger is released ….reel like crazy still in the rod holded……no one home called it a day………………. Ran two 30# FF rods with out any problems......... I had a rod loaded up wit mean green Mccoy line..... fleas slid right down to my barrel swivel so I put it on tne beanch and got the 30# Ande out......was a tad better than the Mccoy but the FF was great........ hope too hear more about the blood run....... set up like my riggs.......main line , barrel swivel , 30' to 40' leader , ........ if I'm just running flasher fly I could get away with Mean Green or Ande BUT not with the barrel swivel 30' from the spoon.............. Pic of Kingerboy for Pat…..as you can see he don’t like getting up early……….. Met 1dogshy at the launch when I came back in Kingerboy was happy with all the petting he got.....LOL......
  4. Went out of the Chamber launch at 5:45AM with Rod Hog (Scott), started in 115', set up 2 rigs, 2 leadcores (6-8 colors) and 2 wire dipsys. Had a hammering hit on a dipsy but it got off, then a couple on leadcores, then a 11# laker on the other dipsy. Continued to mix it up with Lakers, bows & landlocks till 10:30, had a good laker break the bottom leader off a rig on it's third run - oh well - thats why I go fishing. Bob
  5. Splash down a bit later about 6:00am...as soon as I got the second rigger down the first one popped. Salmon in the net. Trolled for a half hour or so...same rod fired...missed him.....an hour or so later I was putting an inline board on when...wham the same rod fired...by the time I found a place to throw the board and rod the nice long fish was airborne and spit the hook. Fished a little more and another miss...ran back up the lake out a bit deeper and landed a 3lb bow...called it a day. Thermocline is back down where it should be. Fleas are coming on strong and weed mats the size of boats are headin south. DWSS green gater and Stinger ice frog did the damage today. Fished 55 and 45 down over 160 to 300 with sliders. 6 color core did nothing.
  6. Splash down about 5:15am...found temperature 20 feet above where it was 2 days ago.(south wind has been a blowin) About 45 minutes later the 30' rigger pops,,,,,nice 4lb bow in the net. Put that back down and for some crazy reason I decide to put sliders on 30 and 40 foot riggers!! Well a little while later my 40' rigger pops and the rod slams right down close to the water. Holy crap this has gotta be a nice one...begin to see the fish....wait a minute did I just see another one...what the....... a landlock double!!! Continue fishing and miss something on a slider...rod was shakin... thought it was sea weed sliding down but it ended up being a fish and my blacks release was a bit to tight for slider action I guess. Fish a bit more and bam....another nice Landlock on a slider!!! Off the water by 8am. I have gotten a triple on the Seth Greene before but this was allot more fun. Bow was taken 30/160 on dwss green gater.....double was 36 and 18/160 on nk 28 monkey puke and stinger ice frog. Slider fish was 20/200...finger lakes tackle herganater. Seneca has been very good lately at first light!
  7. With all the stories of the slow bite, weeds and fleas I almost didn't hit the water. I had repositioned my riggers the night before so I told myself I would go out for a few minutes just to see how I liked the new setup. Splash down bout 5 am. As soon as the second rigger was set the first one popped....fish on aerial style...nice 3.75 pound landlock. Put that rigger back down and cruised for a bit more when boom...that same rigger fired with a nice 4lb brown. With the weeds being a bit of a pain I left my lead core at the cottage and figured I would try a wire dipsy for some lakers. Twenty minutes later the wire dipsy rod started hammering....laker on...6 pounder. It is now that I realize if I fish all day maybe..... just maybe........ I could hit my first grand slam. I get my notes out from a few of you L.O.U. ers(you know who you are) and head for a spot where I have caught some bows before. Lower the probe rigger to exactly 55 degrees then put the other rigger 10 ft. above that one then Crank up the Honda 8 a bit(more speed)and headed right for my bow target. 20 minutes or so later....bam...whats the chances of this being a bow I ask myself...all the sudden I see my line head toward the surface and splash the aerial show began...up down left right....sure is acting like a bow.....get the net....6lb bow.. .BOOOOOLLLLLAAAAAAYYYYYYAAAAHHHHH BABY!!!!!!. First slam!!! (by 8am I might add) Had a sip of coffee fished another half hour and picked up 2 more landlocks. Off the water by 8:30 am.... Wire dipsy was out 245' on a 2.5 with a white/green dot spinny and a Seneca ghost fly. Bow was hit 55 ft down(55 degrees) over 225 with a stinger ice frog. Salmon hit a dwss green gater down 46 over 160. Brown hit the stinger ice frog 46 over 280. The other two salmon hit the dwss green gator. Fleas are present but not a pain yet. Thanks for the help guys!!!
  8. Went out for a couple hours after lunch. Started out in shallow marking a ton of bait and fish in 45 fow. One pass through showed me those fish had lockjaw or didn't like my spread. I slid out to 90 fow and picked lakers off the bottom with a showtime blue spinny and green fly on the 80' rigger. Green dolphin parked at 40' took a couple salmon. 5/6 (lost a salmon trying to lift in the boat without the net).
  9. Waiting for the granddaughter to get in gear son and my daughter are ready.........
  10. Went to the east side and splashed down about 5:15 am...2 misses right off the bat.... the weeds were the worst I have ever seen. Pulled everything up unloaded a crazy amount of junk and headed for the west side. Attempted to find bait out deep...found a bit in 220' but nothin hittin. Headed to my trusty old honey hole and bang...35' rigger ...fish on...nice brown...back in the drink. Trolled a bit more then decided it was time to transform into tube-ing mode for the kids. Started in toward the lakehouse when the 35' rigger fired again...was reeling in something that felt familiar in February not June...I saw orange fins coming... perch...that one is heading for the freezer!!! I think there IS something about lousy first light fishing after those bright moonlit nights. What do you guys think? Should I have gone out a bit later....say 10:30 or so?
  11. It seems as though the fish are heading a bit deeper now. The shallow program was adjusted by 10 feet or more and includes mostly eating size fish.( 40 ft over 50 is still active but not with lunkers). It seems to me the big boys and girls have headed out toward their summer resorts. I guess its time to wash the dust off the dipsys and spin doctors and have some fun before the fleas attack. Good luck all!
  12. Hi, Read a little on the forum in the past days, since my son and I will be camping at Sampson state park from Sunday till Wednesday. So i thought would be good to join the forum instead of just lurking the info. We'll bring our Lund Rebel 16’ and will be jigging (maybe little trolling with DD) for trout in the morning and then switch to some bass fishing. Thinking of focussing on the north part of the lake, but suggestions are very welcome! If you see two Dutchmen in a (brand new) red Lund Rebel XL 1625, it's us.... Ton and Bas.
  13. Had a small time bracket to troll...had to mow the lawn and be at 6th grade graduation by 830. Splash down at 5:00 am...A brown was taken right off the bat with the 15' rigger... 3 salmon were taken...2 on the 15' rigger and one on the 35. Inline core did nothing. DWSS NBK #1709 and Iron Dukes recomended Chicken feed by fingerlakes tackle were both hot. Lawn mowed and on my way by 8:00 am.....whew.....
  14. Seneca 6/19/2013 Boats uncovered coffee is made still have to do a prep-job up in boat then Kingerboy and I will be heading down to lake....... loaded up with custom painted FLT ( Bob Fullers) spoons........... lake looks flat right now ..... will be interesting....
  15. Anybody planning on fishing out of Sampson next weekend? I am thinking about spending the weekend and was just wondering who else would be around. I would also love to hear from anybody that is fishing this week. I have heard that the fishing has been pretty slow and hope that things turn around a bit.
  16. Set up on the east side about 5:30 am...wind is allready kicken!! Throw out a 3 color core inline board. Send down a 19 ft probe rigger(by the way Fish hawk is a class act...I have been having problems with my X4...they sent a new one instantly... no questions asked...Trevor Sumption is a good man) anywho...back to the business at hand...sent down a 31 ft rigger. The dust settles and I notice the sea of cotton and weeds perfectly centered before my boat....ugh....tons of it everywhere...while thinking between the crazy rollers and all the trash in the lake this is never gonna work out...then POW... the 31 footer fires! Get her in the boat after a nice fight on the new light rod and reel. 4.5lb Brown! Get that 31 back in the water when the inline core starts zingin!! 2lb smallie...I'll take it. Put the inline core back in the drink then the 31 footer POPS again...this time a 3.5lb smallie was boated. Wind is still building...figure I would quit while I am ahead...wet and wild ride back to the lakehouse. Both smallies tossed back and the brown goes to a well deserving father!
  17. Got up to camp early Friday night so the girfriend and I decided to head out for some fishing and sun..... We ran north out of Watkins about 3 miles and setup shop on a south troll.... We ran spoon dipsys, riggers, 5 color core and 200 copper... Slow at the start and weeds and cotton woods were herendous but managed to get a few browns to the boat but the best thing was watching the girlfreind beat me to the riggers, I think she is getting the hang of this whole fishing thing..... Finger Lakes Tackle Co did all the damage and especially Chicken Feed, If you dont have this spoon its a must have.. (thank me later) Happy Fathers day to all the Fathers out there but a BIG special Fathers Day to my Father for everything he has done to help me thru life this far and teach me all about the Finger Lakes and this trolling fishing addiction we both have .. Thanks Dad !!!! Mike
  18. Decided to help the kids get off to school so I missed the first light bite. Splashed down about 9 am...First miss right away...then trolled in the usual brown holes for a half hour or so then picked up a 2 or 3 pounder(20' rigger)...back in the water she went then kept at it for awhile longer with 1 or 2 misses again. Then the 3 color core inline board was heading north while I was heading south!!! landlock.... back in the water. 1 more miss on the 30' rigger. Blown off the lake about 11:00. Quick question...I am running 70 to 80 ft behind the ball...is this a bit to long and could be the cause of some of these misses or are the fish just toying with the spoon for some particular reason? Thanks, Andy
  19. Seneca 6/12/2013 Up at 5:30 but just could not get in gear this morning had three rods in the water at 6:30 am . First fish to hit just wiggled the rod tip nothing home just thinking about changing lures out and the 27’ rigger acts like a limb or plastic bag is hung up on the cable then the rod pops ???? Just heavy so now I think it was on the line , then it’s fin breaks the surface sees the boat and now I’m along for the ride reels screaming OH-BOY !!!!!! I eyeball Kingerboy and he’s looking the other way…….. Finally get him in the net hooked bad bleeding like a stuck laker…….. 24.5†brown 8.5 or better on the bogo grip……..get squared away and run back thru nothing but on the return trip same rigger 16†or so laker I lose at the boat….. start putting back down and the 21’ rigger goes off with a 18†brown…….. getting ready to run back thru and check the 27’ rigger and DUH it was at 17’ ………wonder how that happen…Kingerboy is giving me that Mutly laugh….. anywho ….. lost a salmon on the 21’ rigger…… pulled a Dave M. (sodbuster) on the dead middle rigger was only picking fish up on the north troll so I dropped it down on the south troll and popped it free when I went over a baitpod jigging reeling it back to the boat….bam 19†brown…………. Picked a 17†bow up later got it back in the water after a quick tape check pretty skinny…….. It was a fun time out there I had taped up 4 spoons and three of them took fish one hooked up three time….. big brown was on a store bought spoon ….can’t have it all I guess LOL/././………………….
  20. On the water late after getting some family stuff done. 9:00 am Ran one rigger at 30 ft one at 35 ft and a 3 color core on a inline board. Didnt take long for the 30 foot rigger to fire with a miss. Turned around went back up through and it fired again...fish on this time a 3 or 4 lb brown in the boat...now I realize I have forgot my net...hmmm...well maybe they will all be small....ha....same rigger popped again this time I knew I had somethin good. After a long slow retrieve in realizing this fish needs to be plumb tuckered out if I have any chance of getting her in the boat without a net. Noticing she had a hitchhiker I grabbed her snipped her rider then weighed her....9lbs 12oz....and a very unhappy lamprey. proceeded to work the same water when the inline board started zinging backwards and the reel started screeming....nice landlock in the boat. Decided I should wrap it up when the same 30 ft rigger fired this time with a nice healthy 5lb 8oz bow!! All fish lived happily ever after except for that tasty salmon!! 30'over 60' 2.4 mph gps...fishhawk out of commision for now....I dont know about you guys but judging by the marine life off our dock and the bait out deeper I think Seneca is coming back.
  21. Overcast, warm, calm and fish that were eager! Three color lead core on a board and 26' rigger working 30 to 60 f.o.w. did its job today. Slob of the day was a nice chunky 8 lb Brown!
  22. Trolled at first light putting down 3 Suttons. One on the tx22 board with 3 colors of core. Other two on a 20 ft rigger and a 10 ft rigger over 40 to 80 f.o.w.(zig zagging) The first hour was uneventfull then the Browns turned on...boated two nice ones within 10 minutes or less. Trolled for a half hour or so more then while checking my 20 ft rigger I caught out of the corner of my eye the 10 footer firing, I had an aerial show of a very large assuming Landlock(possibly a bow) by the time I grabbed the rod and set the hook she was long gone. All three fish were on the 10 ft rigger. Quick question... I have been running three colors of core behind a tx22 for quite a few miles . I am using about 75 feet of 10lb fluro leader...a #2 snapswivel and clipping the board about 75 ft or so on the big game mono behind the three colors. The only fish I have caught was a pike...am I doing something wrong? Thanks, Andy
  23. 5-24-13 Big Fish Friday Well thought I had a good plan together for Friday but the 25 mph winds dampered it a bit.. With the wind blowing had my dad Tow us to Lodi and decided I would ride back to Watkins with the waves and hope for the best ... We got launched headed out the shoot and started setting up rods got about three rods down and turned around to look at the Lowrance and noticed my rookie crew was prretty green ..... Being the nice guy I am decided I wasnt gonna make them suffer it out...... Picked up and ran back to Watkins and called it a day... The waves on Seneca where building unbelieveably big saw some 5's and possibly a few 6's mixed in here and there ... So about four oclock left for Sampson to donate my $20 bucks Congrats to Nick (Lakebound88) on the win and little did he know he was about to have a great weekend.... Great to see some of the guys that said they were in show up and pay there dues and chat a bit .... Always a good time... Glad to see eveybody and catch up and tell some fish stories... LOL... 5-25-13 First Tournament Day Crazy wind again so went with the same plan but fished with my friend Matt out of Lodi again with the same plan we ran four dipsy's and 2 riggers, waves still up in the 4's and 5's and not very much fun at all... We were able to put some Lakers in the boat but nothing on the larger side.... Fished til 1 and we were done due to wind... 5-26-13 Day 2 They were calling for big wind again so no plans of going but got a phone call from a couple buds fishing the tournament that couldnt get out do to smaller boat and waves so I told them to meet me at the dock... We ran out of Watkins to Glenora and came back on a south troll managed to get in to fish but just nothing in the quality department.... Few smaller lakers and salmon..... 5-27-13 Day 3 Launched bright and early with the family and Matt , we ran just south of Peach Orchard and went North , put a full spread of cores coppers riggers and dipsy's out and wasnt long before we were putting the smack down on Lakers and Browns but again we just couldnt find the size we were looking for, but everybody on board had a great morning reeling them in the (pics below).... Overall the tourney was a good time but wish we could have had a lot less winds but thats how it goes, cant control Mother Nature... Want to Give a huge thumbs up to Lakebound88 on a second place Laker and he was a trooper fishing every second in the weather we had and thats how you get it done!!! Congrats to all who fished and Placed..... Mike
  24. So get a couple nice lakers in the boat over 8# just went to weigh in at Geneva only to find they have no power and the scales are down! Why would they rely on a solar and wind power setup for this. Really seems like they were lost on how to solve the problem. So back out fishing we go with a couple decent fish that havnt been weighed in. This whole tournment could use some help.
  25. My son who was working with me on the charter took this picture as we were headed in 7-7-12 - took him awhile to send it to me - left side of pic was funnel cloud that roped out on right side of pic - when it hit the river opening the winds were over 80 miles an hr. This storm was moving at 65 miles an from the north to the south - I saw 2 kayakers sink in the channel, a pontoon boat had it's canvas top removed completely - poles an all and a 40 foot fly bridge boat get pushed down the river side ways.
