  1. Just a reminder................. Anyone underway in a boat less than 21 feet in length anytime between November 1 and May 1 must wear a securely fastened life jacket. This includes canoes, kayaks, rowboats and motorboats Commercial vessels are exempt. NYS Nav. Law Section 40.1(e).

  5. Hi Stan. Make that 4 Arimas out on Sat. Fished up the lake aways. Struggled to get something going. Went 6 for 7. Best set was 260 on the dipsy with dodger & fly
  6. 8" Dodgers w/flies are vary effective as well as spinnies. Try running one of each until a pattern sets up.
  7. What ever is causing the water to green up doesn't seem to be bothering the fish bite.
  8. Mono and dipsy's don't mix . To much stretch so anything past 50' out you will start to have trouble triping the dipsy. At the depths we are fishing now the dipsy won't trip.
  9. Interesting thread. Thought I'd add my $.02. I'm thinking it's a rainbow. Caught these rainbows in Cayuga Lake in different years. A lot of similarities even thought the angles don't prove anything. Other than the big difference in the color of the pectoral fins these fish are close. The lighting and angles in all pics are different so features will come off differently. The intensity of color does vary from fish to fish also. It will be interesting to hear what DEC has to say.
  10. .....for some reason I can't get to open the pic . It opens if you download it Duh.bmp
  11. I know this doesn't answer your question but I had same problem with my main after 4 years of trolling with it. Had Snake Creek change the throttle cable and added a kicker to eliminate that issue in the future.
  12. Were you able to check out any of the deeper areas? There has been good action the last couple weeks over deeper water. Plenty of lakers with a few salmon & rainbows mixed in.
  13. Great idea. If you intend to post your service put in your location. It will save a lot of asking "were are you located?"
  14. Fishing has definitely improved up the lake from what it's been and should get better . Fish are now staggered from surface to 100' but scattered. Still not seeing much bait out over the deeper water. Work at it and you'll be rewarded.
  15. ...wasn't that the bass you caught last August???
  16. Not much happened for me farther up the lake on Saturday. Aurora north past Levanna and across to the west side along the trench and silos was pretty barren. Never moved a rod . Marked a few fish and only one small bait ball on the bottom at 125'. Not much more to say other than " I guess that's fishing" . That night I sat in the recliner and watched Wicked Tuna wondering if I'll ever get one of those 300 lb Cayuga Lake Lake Trout. I figured that some of those boats would go a week without a hit so I'll be patient and hang in there. Then my wife woke me up and said go to bed. Hope I have a better story (report) next trip.....
  17. I think you should check the gas first.. ...before you fire that engine. It's easy enough to do, why take a chance at doing a carb or injector rebuild? Drain out about a 1/2 gallon or so in a clear container and let it settle out. See what settles to the bottom. Water and any jell from the ethanol should be on the bottom. If so siphon out more till you get all that stuff out. Be sure your siphon hose is all the way on the bottom of the tank. I made up a siphon hose a couple years ago for just that purpose. Went to Lowes and bought a latex hose and a brass fitting (to give the end of the hose some weight) . The latex hose is plenty flexible enough to get into the tank and you'll hear the brass fitting bouncing on the bottom of the tank to be sure your pulling gas at the bottom. It's so easy with this setup I do it every spring when I pull my boat out of storage just to know for sure what is in the tank. tubing: http://www.lowes.com/pd_443104-104-SLGE10_0__?productId=4566542&Ntt=latex+tubing&pl=1&currentURL=%3FNtt%3Dlatex%2Btubing&facetInfo= brass fitting: http://www.lowes.com/pd_314689-61002-APXC121210PK_0__?productId=3697974&Ntt=brass+fittings&pl=1&currentURL=%3FNtt%3Dbrass%2Bfittings&facetInfo= Just get the same size tubing & fitting. Good luck.
  18. As the others have mentioned the Blacks or Chamberlain releases are good. I'll add one more that is similar to the Blacks and that is the Du-Bro release. I've used all three and have been mostly using the Chamberlains the last several years. What I like about the Chamberlains is that you can adjust the rod tension separate from the lure tension so if you are fishing deep and want to really hunker down on the rod you aren't adding release tension on the lure. Works the same if your running dodgers/spinney's. You can't go wrong with any of those three. I've stopped using the pincher style many years ago.
  19. Go to the Big Jon web site> https://www.bigjon.com/about-big-jon.php and hit the SERVICE drop down box. Scroll down to OWNERS MANUAL and click. A .pdf will come up of all their equipment installations including the HALF WEIGHT KEEL. Page 14 is what you want.
  20. That is so cool. Thanks for posting the link. That would make a great link to a screen saver.
  21. I stopped using 20lb years ago because of break-offs. I have been using the 19 strand 40lb since it came out and never had a break-off . Before that I was using 7 strand McMaster-Carr 40lb also without any break-offs. Knot strength in 40lb is about 30+ lbs . What do you think the knot strength in 20lb is? As rollmops can attest , you won't find much difference between the two as far as depth goes. After you loose a couple setups ( 30.00+ ) with 20lb you'll rethink using it.
  22. Do think that Punxsutawney Phil may want to amend his prediction for spring?
  23. I take some of the colors that I don't use much and paint them to what is working. I usually paint a few all white and/or all black and tape them as needed. The cup is usually white or I leave it as it came out of the package. That goes with any spoon blank that I like to run. Black & purple is easy to repaint.
