  1. Musky Bob,

Heard you on the radio and we began to talk but then were over run by what I call radio hogs. Sorry we didn't get a chance to talk. Nice report and glad the guys got to boat some fish. We were deep too on Saturday and had many monstous marks.

Hope to talk or meet again some time. I think you are doing the Fair Haven Challenge, right? Maybe we can connect there.

  2. Just a quick report from Team Lucky Enuff as Capt. Keyser has no intenet access at his current location. AND being old the memory isn't all that good either. He will probably give a better report later on.

Got a later than normal start. Went looking - saw the pack. Alot of radio chatter about good pictures but nothing was turning on. They stayed on these fish for a long time with limited success.

We on the other hand continued to look - trolloing our merry way to a 6-9 day. I won't count the swing and a miss as I call it on the wire. The wire had a short peel of the drag but by the time the rod was out of the holder nothing was there. But officially Capt. Keyseer wants to call it 6- 10.

We had a steady slow pick until we pulled them around 2 p.m. Things that worked were green e-chip green fly, blue spin DR. (can't remember the fly), chrome dodger and T.G. Fly, white e-chip with white fly. I am sure we did a fish on something else but can't remember it.

We caught our first 2 fisih out deep 450 500fow with 156foc out on the riggers. Even got out to 610 at one point and when we turned to come in shallower, BAM the rigger fired. At one other point I was headed to a way point and got involved talking on the radio and Capt. Keyser asked me if I was going in circles and realized I had done a "crazy Ivan" turn and BAM the rigger fired. I told him not to question my driving techniques and we all had a good laugh over that one.

Had a lot of fun with Tim and Trevor (12) who boated their first ever kings this 4 day trip.

  3. We use older Cannon's. Very reliable no problems since I've owned them - 10 years and they were on the boat when I bought it. They do have a smaller footprint for mounting if space is an issue. Scotty's are belt driven and the ball freefalls when putting your setups down. I know some guys have troubles with the belts but know SPoonfed maintains his equipment in top notch order and has no issues as most do I guess. I remember issues with the belt if it gets wet. Maybe Spoonfed can add some ionsight to this issue.

Honestly, if I was in the financial position to replace all 4 of my riggers I would seriously consider replacing my old Cannons with Scotty downriggers.

Personally I don't like the Walker or Big Jon just because they have a 3 position/down switch with the middle position being "OFF". IMO the Big Jon are slightly better than the Walker because they have a "paddle" type switch which isn't as likely to get bumped as the Walker's "toggle" type switch which can be accidentally bumped and start spooling the rigger cable up or down. The down side to the Big Jon switch is you can more easily pass through the middle off position due to the paddle style that the Walker toggle. The Walker has goos area to grip to be sure you are in the middle position.

  4. I hear of everyone going through batteries like water (pardon the expression) with the fishhawk. I don't know what we are doing right but our battery lasts us quite a while. Mind you it won't last a whole season but we don't need to replace it during our long day trips and probably only after several trips. We do disconnect the battery every time we end our fishing day and maybe that is why we don't use a lot of batteries. :?:

  5. Tank,

Our speed was waya off. We were reading 2.75 on the Moore and our GPS SOG was like 3.7 and the temperature was bouncing around. By the time we figured out what was causing the problem it was too late to do anything about getting fishi in the boat for the LSRC. We were flying across the lake. We did get 4 very aggressive fish to take our lures but managed only 1 in the boat. I told the captain our stuff down below must have looked like pinwheels in a hurricane!!

  6. Off Track,

What type of hooks are you using?

A couple years ago we went to some EWG (extra wide gap hooks) by Gamakatsu and they weren't heavy enough. No they weren't @X or 3X strong and we were experiencing the same thing. Some were straightening while others were crushed (2 of the 3 trebles were bent way in towards the shank). Since we went to @x and 3X strong hooks and haven't had another problem.

Our thinking that the finer wire hook would penetrate quicker and deeper....NOT!!! :$:$
