  1. Guys,

I e-mailed Dave Chilson @ LOC and asked him if he would clarufy Rule # 27 for everyone. IMHO, the out is "unless exempted by law". If the state lifts the license requirement for that weekend then it is "By Law" isn't it?? So as long as they were registered for th eLOC I would think it would be legal.

Hopefully Dave will clarify the issue for all of us.

  2. Ray,

I don't know if it will get you any more satisfaction but.........

Capt. Tony Buffa always states at his FF/GPS seminars that if you are having trouble with Lowrance and not getting satisfaction from them ...he is a Lowrance Rep and he will go to bat for you.

    e-mail: [email protected]

Make sure you put something about FF dissatisfaction in the subject line

    or

    Phone: (315) 633-2694

Good Luck if you pursue this.

  4. Longline, Erbyjoe,

Thanks for all the tips and info. After much deliberation, discussion and rereading of the installation instructions it's finally done.

Should have posted "Mathematics for Dummies" :$:$

Maeasured the transom angle at 22 degrees and put the supplied shim on in the right direction. Prior to actually screwing it down did the recomended measurements and found that the bow of the sensor was lower than the stern - not recommended. Almost got to the point of trimming the plastic shim.  Well lo and behold it was 90 degrees minus 78 for 12 degree transom angle NOT 100 minus 78 for 22 degrees. (Took our third team member to point this out - it was one of those can't see the forest for the trees issues. So now the stern is slightly lower than the bow of the snsor so it is correctly mounted.

We did cut the plate as Tom recommended in his diagram but left the 20 degree bevel on the bottom edge of the mounting plate and mounted it flush with the bottom edge of the boat hoping the 20 degree bevel would prevent any turbulence, instead of mounting it 1/2" up from the bottom of the boat as recommended.

We think it came out great and having the plastic plate to mount other xducers or replacement is going to be a big benefit. Now to get it into the water and prov it works correcetly.

    Thanks again for your assistance.

p.s. - This entire project took a long time, with a lot of research and questions to you guys and many other board members. It was a slow deliberate project which got done right the first time and exactly the way we wanted.

So to all who provided guideance and suggestions - Thank You

  5. RM,

As you said you were going to the BAR to fish there is a Gander Mountain inNorth Tonawanda just off the main Interstate going to Niagara Fall/Youngstown. I am sure you can get your licenses there at that time of the evening and if your not fishing out of Wilson or Olcott it's right on your way.

You can go to Gander Mtn. on line and even get their store phone number and call to see if there will be someone there at that time to issue licenses.

  6. We are ready to install our xducer for our Furuno FCV 582L. We plan on mounting the new xducer on a plastic xducer plate picked up through Cabelas.

From what I have seen on location (angle) of these plates they have all been on bigger boats with what I call a flat bottom. Thus the mounting plate is parallel to the bottom of the boat (amd maybe even with it) and to the water's surface.

On my aluminum if I mount the plate even with the bottom edge of the boat it will be at an angle lower towards the center of the boat and higheer towards the outside of the boat.

Now the question........do I mount the plate parallel to the surface of the water or paarallel (even) with the bottom edge of the boat at an angle??

Also if I bevel the bottom edge of the plate that is even with the bottom of the boat is this a bad idea resulting in more turbulunce or is it going to be better that it is bevelled??

    Thanks guys,

  7. Uglyokuma,

I'd recommend the Icom Brand radio. I recently saw the Icom 409 on sale at West Marine. What's more imp[ortant though than the radio is a GOOD QUALITY antenna. You can have the best radio in the world and if you have a poor quality antenna you can't talk to the boat next to you (just exaggerating a bit there) but the antenna is what counts most for both transmission and reception. I would also make sure it has hi and low power transmit.

  8. Dremarquis,

We run the Scotty releases also. We run both sizes depending on what pound test we are running on the rods. The larger ones will hold a tighter "load" in the rod especially at the depths you mentioned but they will not allow you to load the rigger rod as heavy as if you are using the blacks releases (which we previously ran and occasionally still do).

  9. Chris,

I just removed an extension cable from my Lowrance X70A and I am thinking it must be about 12' long. I don't know if this will work fro you as the Lowrance site says the X85 uses an XT-bk cable and the X70A uses and XT cable.

I have one if you are interested and can use it.

  10. I think what everyone is referring to is the Aqua View 210 in an aerosol can. Bought a can of this from the local auto upholsterer who also does boast canvass and windows here in Cortland. The company that he gets it from is Manart Hirsch. Just Google Aqua View 210 and that should help. Got this info from Spponfed 1 whoi also used it on some very foggy vinyl and they look like new.
