  1. Start your search with your boat in 7-10 fow then slide out till you find them. If you are using big planer boards, or inline planer boards your baits should get out to each side respectively. The shallow side run your smaller lipped baits so not to get hung up, and your deeper side run some of each to cover different depths and leads back. This accompanied by 2 flatlined stickbaits, or spoons should cover the basis depending on how many rods you can run comfortably off your boat.
  2. I am looking to upgrade my powerplant on the Lund. Its an 87 V4 Johnson thats nickel and diming me a bit and want to get myself ready if there is anything available out there now. I would be interested in a newer outboard 2 or 4 stroke in the 90-150 hp range it can take up to a 200 hp if available. I found a few on craigslist but nothing worth jumping all over. If any of you know of a sign up for sale in a garage or tackle shop snap a pic and drop the info to me. The main thing is reliable, and affordable. Thanks in advance guys
  3. It was a great day on the water. Here are a couple of the better shots from the day. A face only a fisherman could love Fish were feeding big time, with the lake all chopped up and overcast. A few fish coughed up big half digested gobies. Delicious! Getting some work done on the boat but should be out again next weekend. Good luck to you if you get out.
  4. Nice report tim! Definatly a nice way to kick off the season.
  5. Nice report guys! I hope the brownies stick around for awhile our way unlike last season. I live for this time of year!
  6. Do you have any better pictures? That one did not work.
  7. Thanks guys it was great to get back on the water. Got to get the boat up to speed for a run, then gave the kicker motor a work out as well. Everything seems to be working good except the trailer lights are F-ed up. I have to get the trailer inspected anyways. Next time out I will deploy the Aqua Vu camera! "Brownies on the bite"footage to come Rob-yes it is definitely nice to get out fishin before work, if your free during the week let me know I try and get out once during the week sometimes twice throughout the season. Tank-will probably see you out there I didnt get to fish the "good water" last time so I will probably be out over the weekend. The docks arent in yet if you are shooting for sandy bring some hip boots for loading the trailer. Longer ropes also if the wind is wipping down the creek to hold the back end straight while loading.
  8. I definitely recommend the hammerhead cowbells if you are looking for lakers. They work great and are less expensive than mentioned above. Give Jimmy a call and he will take care of you http://www.hammerheadchartersandtackle.com 585-315-7222
  9. These are a great buy, they are brand new otter boards with minor cosmetic blemishes. Just call to make sure they have some in stock. Mine work 100% just a little faded paint on one and a few sanding marks on the other..... http://www.bigjon.com/pics/pics.asp
  10. It is important to check the temperature before frying. Even if it was preheated oil, fry them in small batches and let that oil come back up to temperature in between batches. Clean oil is a must also. dry on a rack over a tray to let air move around the food. All good tips to keep crispy anything when deep frying.
  11. I was out today and it wasn't impossible, but definitely took more work than normal. I have a 21 ft Lund and it went in fine, the retrieve was the pain. Bring your hip boots!
  12. First trip of the year in my boat. Got in the water around 730 everything ran fine, set lines and fished till 1030. Found good colored water east and west of the creek, but due to time contraints couldnt go as far east today as I would have liked. Ended up 3 for 3 with 1 brownie being a hawg at 10 and change. All fish took bright colored stickbaits stretched far back behind inlines planerboards Water temperature was around 37 degrees in the lake with dips up to 40 in front of the mouth of Sandy and the edge of that plume to the east. Gorgeous weather, calm seas was a great morning shakedown cruise. Now its off to work
  13. My father showed me seth green rigging or bleach bottle rigging, on hemlock a few years ago and it was interesting, we used a small boat bumper with the eyes built in to each end, ran our dropper weight down with 5 spoons off of it down the shoot took a few fish but was kind of cumbersome to deal with at the boat. You end up hand lining the fish once you get the bottle in and get to the leaders of different lengths. It was very effective but I couldnt imagine fishing it on larger sized fish.
  14. Hey thanks guys! I didnt even notice this post, its much appreciated. With the weather getting warmer, its gona be nice to splash the boat monday hopefully. Thanks again for the birthday wishes!
  15. They use em for creel census by the DEC in alaska and other rivers, but mostly used by native americans for harvesting fish out of small wingdams and rivers. Pretty neat if you ever get a chance to see one in person.
  16. Thought this was pretty cool to see working, I have seen them before but never catching fish. Want to hook one up at the genny, see what turns up at the end of the day...
  17. Nice looking boat shane! I had Jim take care of my canvas needs at Canvas Concepts--585-703-3942 good luck
  18. Heres the crazy yankee with the first brownie of 2009 open water season, It was so good to be on the water even if the fish werent cooperative. Still a bit of slush ice and debris coming out of the creeks. The best part was watching the shoreline ice bust off into large 8 ft chunks making loud splashes into the lake, it was kinda like alaska but instead of blue glaciers it was dirty white icebergs. Let this be a lesson to all of you getting your boats out of storage in the next month or 2 GET your trailers registered and inspected because they are on the look out.
  19. I use my Subtroll Downspeed, the most accurate tell of what your lures are doing is your subtroll or probe reading. Your Speed over Ground --SOG speed reading off your gps will change depending on which way you troll to get your lures running your target speed. All this assuming you are fishing over deep water with undercurrents or larger surface waves, into a stiff wind etc...when trolling shallows with fairly calm conditions using stickbaits I will put a lure next to the boat and see how it is running with my boat speed and adjust according to what the fish want.
  20. Rainbows and Browns? Those are landlocked salmon and Lake trout?
  21. Im talking Cooooooold 20-25 degrees outside and below, dodging slush etc. I think with the warmer water you will have no problems. Its a good product but as far as comparing it to seaguar or a true floro carbon, put it in the water side by side and check it out how it sizes up. I have never done it but it would make my decision if your going to be using it for leaders/cheaters etc. I would stick with the seaguar or a 100% floro. Just my 2 cents
  22. Pretty happy with it in the 8 pound test size for steelhead and brownies in the tribs, but once the water gets cold its horrible. Never ran it for anything else.
  23. Nice job to Tim and the rest of the LOTSA memebers for putting on such a great event. I have been looking forward to it for the last couple weeks. Great to hear Dan Keatings seminar along with the other charter captains that gave there time and experience and took the time to answer alot of questions by the audience. Great event, scored some cool new toys to organize into the arsenal, just a couple more weeks. I as well left with a significantly smaller amount in my wallet than when I walked in. Thanks again to all that helped in putting on the event. COme oHNNN SPrRIiiing
