  1. I was told that your memory is the second thing to go.. can't remember what the first is! Ray.. I pictured you as being much older! Happy Birthday young fella! Good Fishing, Sluggo (Chris)
  2. Walt.. So you're going over to the "dark" side? My deepest sympathies, Sluggo (Chris)
  3. Vince.. Is your son military or working for a contractor? Mine will be at Camp Victory and hopefully not leaving there. Ray.. I will thank him for you! By the way.. we had some other names for you marines when I was serving! (hate to show my age, but I served in the 60's). Good Fishing, Sluggo (Chris)
  4. I was really looking forward to hooking up with you all this weekend.. as well as winning that trophy.. but.. it doesn't look good. My son got home last week after ten years in the NAVY and informed us that he's taken a job as a government contractor and leaves for Iraq this coming week! We don't know all the details yet, but neither my wife or I are very happy with this idea! Anyway.. I probably should stick around home this weekend. Maybe next time. Good Fishing, Sluggo (Chris).. "SCULPIN"
  5. John.. Is there a site where the tourney results are posted? Made it up Sat. to check the board, but not Sunday. Just curious as to how some of my buddies made out! Good Fishing, Sluggo (Chris)
  6. Just got back from five days of walleye fishing the eastern shores of Erie. We had planned on fishing the Amera-Can that Times Two referred to in his report, but with the forecast for real bumpy water.. didn't feel we could really compete in our 19 ft. Lund. We were able to get out and fish every day, but a few of them were more work than pleasure. We launched out of Barcelona and fished mostly from the PA line back..about a 10 mile run. Times Two covered the programs quite nicely, so I won't bother.. although we actually did quite well off the downriggers. While he was getting Kings.. we were getting Browns. One was just over 12#. We did pretty well on the eyes.. no limits for three guys, but 8 to 12 good fish each day. Most were in the "eater" range, but had a few Hogs in the 8 to 10 range. Overall had a great time out there as usual.. great area and even better fishing! We'll be headed back for another round in the near future! Good Fishing, Sluggo (Chris)
  7. Ray.. A bit late, but I was out there a few weeks ago and the bigger walleye were in fairly shallow.. 40-50 ft. We did best pulling silver or copper spoons behind boards running about 30 ft. down. They may have moved out over deeper water by now.. and they may prefer stickbaits or crawler harnesses.. so I'd tell your friend to be ready to experiment! I'll be out there next Wed. and will start with a full assortment till they tell us what they want. Lots of help..huh Good Fishing, Sluggo (Chris)
  8. Welcome aboard! I'm right across the river from you in Endwell. I hit Cayuga once in a while and plan on hitting Ontario for salmon soon, but my real passion is walleye fishing on Erie. Heading out this coming Wed. for a six-day weekend! Stick around.. lots of good people as well as info and knowledge on this board! Good Fishing, Sluggo (Chris)
  9. Posted this once.. but it got zapped. Gotta love that copy/paste Fished the NY end of Erie for walleye this past Sun. thru Tues. Launched out of Barcelona all three days and trolled mainly the 55 to 65 foot depths. Although the weather wasn't the best.. one day blowin'.. the next day flat.. we did manage to pick up fifteen decent fish. The largest was just under ten, but most were in the four to six range. We nomally do best on stickbaits and worm harnesses, but spoons seem to be the ticket right now. Most of these fish are probably "resident" fish. The big herds from the western end should be arriving soon though. After figuring the cost for fuel, lodging, meals and beer... the fillets in my freezer only ran me about $30 / pound... not bad huh? Good thing you can't put a price tag on fun! Good Fishing, Sluggo (Chris) ps.. I remembered the camera.. shoulda checked the batteries though!
  10. Thanks for the report! I'll be giving a try this weekend a bit below you.. out of Barcelona Harbor. I'll post a report when I get back. Good Fishing, Sluggo (Chris)
  11. Rich.. Nice job and thanks for the great report! I'm hoping to finally get up there this coming weekend. Probably be fishing north of you since we'll be staying on Mud Bay. I haven't been out since walleye closed in March! Between birthdays, weddings and weekend coverage at work.. it just hasn't worked out! If you hear me chattering on 68.. give me a shout! I'd give you my cell #, but I know it doesn't get a signal up there. Good Fishing, Sluggo (Chris)
  12. Abit late to help with your trip, but I see that the winners of the MWC tourney at Henderson caught their fish off the tip of Grenadier Island (just outside of Mud Bay). They were pulling stickbaits in the deeper water.. not sure how deep they were running them. I'll hopefully be at Mud Bay next weekend. I'll post my results. Good Fishing, Sluggo (Chris) ps.. Size of tourney fish were impressive, but numbers were a bit disappointing. Lots of 0's on the board!
  13. I don't actually target musky, but I've caught several over 50" out of the Susky while walleye fishing in cold water. You might get away with lighter line then.. but if you're going for them in warm water, I'd say a minimum of 50# would do. Personally, I like PowerPro. Good Fishing, Sluggo (Chris)
  14. Splitshot.. What a great looking trophy! But... I was hoping it would be a bit shorter than it appears to be as I plan on using it for a hood ornament on my truck! I may have trouble seeing over that one! Great job.. thanks! Good Fishing, Sluggo (Chris)
  15. I was going to bite my tongue on this one.. but the Heck with it. I used to do the night fishing routine for Oswego eyes, but apparently I don't have the right temperment for it. The river wasn't too bad as long as everyone minded their manners.. and left their boards at home! But the last time I hit it at night was my Last time. We had to fish the breakwalls because the river was muddy and moving. Between the drift boats without lights that you couldn't see until you were on top of them.. and the couple of pompous "charter" captains (I know many good ones) who "own" the waters there.. and the overzealous Coast Guard crew that ran over my line (big fish on at the time) and boarded us at 2AM to do a safety inspection (took 3 guys an hour).. that's enough for me! Don't get me wrong...I have the greatest respect for our men in uniform. I'm a vet and my son's on his 10th year in the Navy.. but.. they could do their training exercise at the dock rather than harass the poor fisherman who gets a few hours every few weeks to fish. Anyway.. I'll stick to the wide-open waters, thank you! May catch less and smaller fish, but I'll come home smilin'. Good Fishing, Sluggo (Chris)
  16. Bob.. Thanks for the info. I hope that your source is more reliable than mine! Good Fishing, Sluggo (Chris)
  17. Bob.. I haven't found a website that has info on this tourney, but if I do.. I'll let you know. Good Fishing, Sluggo (Chris)
  18. LS.. I don't know of any local tournaments, but the one's run by the K.A.W.A. on Kinzua Res. are top notch. They ran one on Erie a couple of years ago that we fished, but running one there. There's one on Erie out of Dunkirk in June called the Amera-Can that we're fishing. Entry fee's not bad.. two day tourney.. cheap beer! Not sure of the dates, but I think it's the 16th/17th. Good Fishing, Sluggo (Chris)
  19. Hell.. I'm going to the bar in just a few minutes! I'm hoping to get the boat wet somewhere this weekend though Good Fishing, Sluggo (Chris)
  20. Never been involved in an on-line chat session, but I may give it a shot. My problem is my typing skills (or lack of) may keep me a few topics behind everyone else Good Fishing, Sluggo (Chris)
  21. Ed.. This may sound like a dumb question, but which lake is Lodi Point on... Seneca or Cayuga? I've been through Lodi.. as I recall, it's between the two lakes. Good Fishing, Sluggo (Chris)
  22. Depending on what size boat you have.. I'd be hesitant about choosing Sandy Pond. It's a great area and ideal for a quick run to fish, but getting in and out of the pond can be a nightmare. My buddy has a cottage there and hasn't been able to put his 27' Amberjack in for two seasons because he doesn't want to churn through sand to get in and out. He also has a smaller Whaler that gets him by. There's been talk for years of putting in a breakwall and they've even purchased a machine to try to keep the channel open, but nothing's worked yet. Good Fishing, Sluggo (Chris)
  23. Roadrash.. That's a good question! I really don't know the answer, but maybe the fact that there are very few trout or salmon in the northeast end has something to do with it? Maybe the lack of competition for food? Just a guess. Good Fishing, Sluggo (Chris) ps.. just to contradict myself.. my biggest walleye came from just outside Oswego Harbor.
  24. I guess I'll be the oddball... I've run a plate on my last three boats and have never had a problem. I did bend a plate years ago by taking off with it down, but no damage done. The plate I run now is spring hinged in the center so it flips up as you throttle up, letting you run in a "lope" with the plate still down. Handling has never been a problem.. even with auto-pilot! Here's a link to the one I run. If you do decide on bags.. Amish Outfitters are the best I've seen. http://www.ironwoodpacific.com/products ... roller.htm Good Fishing, Sluggo (Chris)
  25. Wow.. love to see a piture of it! I'm not really surprised at a new record walleye coming out of Ontario. I fish both Erie and Ontario for walleye and although Erie's considered the "walleye captial", the one's out of Ontario seem to run bigger on the average. I got one in Mud Bay last summer that taped at 34", but was a slender 13# fish. Spawning weight would have been 3 or 4 pounds more! Good Fishing, Sluggo (Chris)
