  1. Throbbin Rod - Oak Orchard report ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s): 07-21 Time on Water: 5:15PM – 6:30 PM) Temp/Weather: 70 overcast, intermittent drizzle Wind Speed/Direction: NE 5MPH Waves: 1 Footers, Calm Surface Temp: 68°F Location: Straight out from port and a tad west LAT/LONG: 24 - 25N =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 3 Total Boated: 2 Species Breakdown: 2 Kings Hot Lure: Gator Spin Doctor and Atomik Crinkle Green Tournament Fly Trolling Speed: 2.75 Down Speed: 2.4 Boat Depth: 100 - 220 Lure Depth: 50- 60 ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ==================== Got out for a short bit with Stacey and his friend tonight for about an hour. Heard there were fish in 90-100 so set up in there. Did not get any thing to go in there so worked out to 220. Took fish at 190 and 210 FOW. Both came on the wire out 150 on a 2 setting. Had to get Emily back to Rochester by 8 so that was it. Very few fleas and 47 down 50.... much better than 90- 100 we had Sunday. Pretty good storms to the south and east, torrential rain on the ride home.....
  2. As far as fishing the lakers off Russel..... cowbell on bottom and run meat rigs behind large flashers higher up for salmon as they are tolerant of lower speeds required for the bells.
  3. Good choice for a laker charter. The other guys in Rochester can put you on them pretty well too. It is not too difficult a program. Later in the season you can get some dandy ones suspended out deeper and grab some nice steel and kings at the same time with a spoon, dodger or flasher fly program. We find bigger fish off the stacks on the bottom this time of year and Bradocks can be a pretty good mixed bag spot as summer progresses.
  4. Throbbin Rod : Sunday Oak Orchard Fishing Report ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s): (July 19,2009) Time on Water: (6:00 AM – 11:30) Temp/Weather: (warm/partly cloudy) Wind Speed/Direction: (SW 5-10 switching to W 10?) Waves: (1-2 Footers building as morning progerssed) Surface Temp: (?°F) Location: (140-260 just east of port) LAT/LONG: (did not note) =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: (12) Total Boated: (10) Species Breakdown: (3 steelhead, 7 kings) Hot Lure: (NK28 Glow Frog -3 , GetterDun - 2, Stinger Gator - 3, Gator Spin Doc/ Atomik Tournament Green Crinkle -2 Trolling Speed: (variedmph) Down Speed: (2.25- 2.75 mph) Boat Depth: 140 - 260 ft) Lure Depth: (70- 100 ft) ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ==================== Fished with Patty today. Tried to get out last night with Stacey and a couple friends but a bit too bumpy for dinner and fishing. Left port at 5:45 this mornings and set up in 140 just a little east. Did best in the 170 foot range - all fish within 1/2 mile radius - nothing outside that area. A very active morning. Missed two - one shot on the wire and one on the rigger. Wire was out 190 - 210. Could not get the "c-****" to fire with spin doctor or e-chip flashers in various colors.... perhaps next time. Last fish was a skip we must have dragged a while. Biggest was 20.06 on DEC scale three hours after caught. Not sure it lost much. Only one lamprey mark on one of the salmon. The steelies were 4,7 and 9 pounds -god i love catching them! Thanks to Joe Toomey for some tips on fishing the Oak as we are newbies up there aside from an occasional visit. We are really enjoying it! Nice to put a face to CBish as well.
  5. Bruce Bolger ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s): (7-17-2009) Time on Water: (7-8-30PM) Temp/Weather: (cloudy with intermittent showers) Wind Speed/Direction: (south 5mph) Waves: (foot or less) Surface Temp: (68°F) Location: (80-160) LAT/LONG: (straight out) =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: (3) Total Boated: (3) Species Breakdown: (3 Kings) Hot Lure: (NBK and Geter'dun) Trolling Speed: (3.1mph) Down Speed: (2.5-2.75 mph) Boat Depth: (80-160ft) Lure Depth: (90-100ft) ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ==================== Fished with Patty for a short trip Friday night. Nice night on the lake. Three small kings. Riggers parked at 80-100. Spoon bite only, no wire action. 46 degrees down 100. The good news was very few fleas on the riggers and minimal on the wire. Hope to get out Sunday morning.
  6. The light does work. You can Jig live bait or have had success with some of the plastic white shad baits....
  7. Ditto on EzSteer... Great unit that works well but god they must make a good dollar per unit!
  8. Check out the "Jerk" on page 27 of Great Lakes Angler.... Bruce aka "Throbbin' Rod"
  9. Maybe that is the size and numbers in that size they get when they are not targeted day in day out year after year and boxed out!
  10. That is great!!! You are a die hard!!! Your favorite fisheys too! Construction slow or what.... lots of trips lately!
  11. No way! This was far tastier and I got to spend the morning with my kid and ran in to an old friend as well.....
  12. not alot over 7" (9) and only away from the channel....
  13. Dang brother... looks like we chose the wrong day and wrong place!!! Thanks for the report. Love catching and releasing those steelies! Don't forget I have phone....
  14. Fished from 7:30 to noon from in front of the river piers and on out to 180'. Marked fish in front but not too many out deeper. Managed to pull a two year old king out 120 on the wire on white dodger and crinkle fly. Had one other rap but no one home.
  15. Thanks for the report.... hope to get out this weekend. Stacey wants to take a kid from school out. Think we may look a bit deeper? Glad to see you back. T. Suter says you work too hard!!!
  16. Took a few new to LO folks out today. Fished in front of the river, a bit east, a bit west in 20-85 FOW. Only had one landed fish down 50ish on a fixed cheater "Geter Dun". Had a rip on the wire that actually pulled the rod and holder of the rail on the starboard side. Well I thought that was an expensive morning when one of the people I had on board said "that starboard rigger pole looks funny". Sure enough the rod was caught on the rigger cable but lacking everything south of the diver. Hooked it up again and just east of the bay that rod doubled over toward the back of the boat and just as quick went limp with a break off. Nice to get his daughter on at least one good salmon! She likes big strong fish and won't go bassin with her dad. Seems she has been spoiled by salt water trips.....sounds interested in another trip out despite a very slow day.
  17. I know it may be hard with a blank screen but you might try adjusting the contrast.... happened to me once. If I recall with the unit on briefly press the power button, on the arrow pad scroll down once and adjust using l/r buttons. Good luck...
  18. Congratulations to all that placed in the derby! I see a number of names from this board... that is awesome! Thanks to all that shared info during the derby. You guys know where it's at! I know a whole bunch of folks may not have placed in the derby but enjoyed a great time on the lake with family an or friends. We want to thank those folks that helped put us on fish throughout the season. Bruce and Stacey
  19. Set up at 2:30 in 90 FOW off Durand. Trolled toward the river. Did two kings. One 60 out on the wire over 40 feet and a skipper down 12 or so over 50 feet. Meat on the wire and "getter' done" on the riggger. Still a lot of cold water in there. Heard chatter about loaded screens in 70 FOW. I think loaded can be a somewhat variable term from what we saw! I personally have not seen a loaded screen in a few weeks. We did mark the biggest pod of bait all summer in 60 FOW. Good luck to all this weekend. I am sure there are a few fish sniffin' around the river but not a lot yet..... but as we all know all it takes is a day! Temp was 47 down 35.
  20. Took Momay's report and set up this morning in 110 FOW off Durand. Took two small Kings and one skipper. Familiar Bite out 110 on a 2.5 setting and Glow Frog parked at 40 on the rigger. Trolled into 40 feet in front of and just west of the river. Marked more bait and fish in there but could not get anything going so trolled back out to where we started and took a steelie on a free sliding Habenero on a 52 foot rigger. Dang is there cold water in front of Rochester!Pulled rods at 11:45 as we needed to get Todd back and we needed to do a little maint. on the boat.
  21. It is his go to Laker spoon....or was that Licker spoon?
  22. Due to NE wind the last two days and cold water inside we decided to motor out deep this morning. I love helping keep ExxonMobil in business! We fished from 7:30 until 11:45. Started in 460 FOW and worked out to 560 and back in to 430. Temp was 71 down 70 and 61 down 80 and 51ish down 90, 47 with rigger out 120. Did 5 kings, 2 steelhead and lost one unknown. Fish came on NK glow froggie parked at 120, DW Getter Done as a free slider on 90 rigger, and the steelhead on a trashcan glow dodger and ATOMIK Pro Am Tournament fly 12 feet off a 50 foot center rigger. Nothing huge but decent and spunky. Speed 2-2.25 at the ball. Pulled at just before and took Stacey for a 10 mile waterski.....back to the bay.
