  1. Moultrie D65IR. They are new to me this season. Performance seems ok but the videos seem a bit grainy. Not finger lakes. Western NY.
  2. Saw my first scrape of the year today while I was out checking cameras. My camera is on the tree in the back ground but its pointed a different direction. One of the half dozen small bucks on have on video is the culprit of this master piece. Sent from my C771 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  3. I check 3 cameras today... Lots of activity but no shooters. 4. Happy Birthday Hank
  5. For 10 seasons or so I have kept hunting journals to document as much info as possible during deer season. For example:time of hunt, location, wind, cloud cover, temp, precip, etc (thanks to National Weather Service) and of course I also include the deer i saw while on stand. I also try to include other observations in the journal such as crops, harvest, rut activity, scrapes, rubs, acorn drops, etc. It has helped me determine patterns that i would of never realized. Realizing that you have a good stand location because of the number deer you are seeing makes it easy but realizing why they are there may be harder to figure out and writing things down helps us keep track of this stuff. Obviously it is all about timing. Right place at the right time. The biggest thing journals will teach you is timing. Documented timing. As reoccurring events happen, the more information you learn. Your knowledge may start out as simple as " i have a great spot" but it may develop into " I have a great spot during early October, on an acorn bumper crop year, with a south wind". I use a simple weekly planner as my journal. Something that every office store and Walmart carry. To make it convenient, i just keep in the truck or near the computer and spend a quick 5 minutes putting my info in it. So today I started making notes of what crops are planted and where. I also printed out sunrise/sunset charts that i can tape somewhere inside the journal.
  6. You got it. 4-6" of material. I will warn you though it is addicting.
  7. Paul is right on with his post. I have a couple of spots that are historical community scape sights and they seem to be open all year. Year after year in the same spot also.
  8. We are running 12' dipsey leads and this is exactly what we do on the boat. It has its tricky moments some times but the extra length has proven to be worth it.
  9. I just saw this and thought I would share it
  10. Lots and lots of shooting! Sent from my C771 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  11. Welcome to the site!
  12. I found one at the town of Hamlin recreation department. It is now full.
  13. Yes. It is considered baiting. I would suggest putting the camera where the acorns are. Deer should be on them at least until the end of the month. (or until they are all gone)
  14. Some good reading and lots of information... Field and Stream- Rut Reporters
  15. Check out these also... 2012 Game Cam Pictures
  16. Heres some more from 2013...
  17. yes! and yes!
  18. Ive always had game cameras but a few years ago I really started utilizing them for scouting (and also entertainment). For the past 3 seasons i have had 5-7 cameras in the woods from mid august through start of gun season. During gun season I only have about 3 cameras in the woods (only because im in fear of theft). Cameras have proven to be a great scouting tool for me but they are truly addicting. Heres some big bucks that I have on film from 2013... This past year, I figured it was time for some new game cameras, so in the off season I purchased 6 Moultrie D65IR. I starting putting them in the woods in late August, and as of last weekend, all six are now in the woods. Im excited to get some great video footage this year. Heres a couple of small bucks from a card I pulled from one of the new cameras about a week ago... http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t68/boneyfish/th_PICT0056_zps0d77aea0.mp4 http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t68/boneyfish/th_PICT0064_zpsa769f0e7.mp4
  19. Well the grind of fishing season is coming close to the end which means the hunting season is creeping up on us. In just a few weeks time the boat will be put away for the season and some of us will be enjoying our time in the archery woods. My hope for this upcoming season is to post an ongoing hunting report (on this thread) throughout the entire season. Basically a play by play of the my entire seasonal progression and a ride on the emotional roller coaster in the deer woods. My intentions are to fill these pages with instant updates from the woods, game cam pictures, videos, rut reports, and whatever else that i can come up with. Let the season begin!
