  1. 20 series will work fine for early season loaded up with 10-15# test. No backing needed and no matter what you choice for mainline I would suggest using 10-15# Fluorocarbon leaders also. The problem later in the season is that the 20 series reel wont have the capacity to hold 20-30# test and you will need something in the 30 series. Any choice of downrigger rod will give you the versatility to fish it with planer boards.

  6. The Berkley works good but always looking for the next best thing.
  7. Im looking for the best clip-on line counter. Any suggestions? I currently have a Berkley http://www.berkley-fishing.com/products/tools-and-equipment/classics/line-counter
  8. What your doing will certainly work. The only suggestion i would have is to run your wire diver on a .5-1 setting. My dipsey sets i run are all the same. Matching equipment and always 30# wire and matching divers. My belief is everything is the same, i am able to judge their performance and pin point their location in the water better because they should react the same in the water.
  9. Im curious to know what spoons you are running? Stickbaits are very speed tolerant and the trick is to find a spoon that runs well at your "succesful" or your desired trolling speed. Dreamweaver Super Slims are a big producer for me in the shallows. I have no issue with running 2-4 riggers and all with spoons while shallow water fishing in Spring and have them all take fish. My leads are rarely anything more then 50'. Typically varying lengths of 20-50', only to get separation between baits. I also tend to fish them in the lower half of the water column to keep tangles to a minimum while fighting fish behind the boat. This is my starting point, and of course there are days were my leads need to be lengthened.

  11. They are a great choice for short coppers. After using other reels, you will notice how loud the clicker are on all Okumas. A great copper rod is an Okuma Classic Pro GLT copper/leadcore trolling rod (CP-CL-862M) and no you dont need a special tip.

  14. Yes, Okuma 30s are comparable in size to Daiwa 47s Yes, a 1000' spool will fill those reels I ordered a bunch of these myself for the boat this year. At first it was to replace the Convectors I was using for divers and now I also have some coming for rigger rods too. I plan on fishing them next to the Convectors for comparison and If they work out then maybe ill upgrade all of them.
  15. You will find that flasher color is more important then fly color. My combos may not match perfectly but the color always seem to go together
  16. Yes only enough to cover the knot not too much to impeed the swivel
