Nice Buck Ray

Yankee, Tim summarized it really well. Your boat will be fine right now as there isn't much ice, if any at this point. The river generally is not rough, except for Devils Hole which I would advise against in a Bass Boat. Your trolling motor will work just fine for the rest of the river. There aren't any shoals / reefs etc that you need to avoid. The river is deep and consistent, meaning the farther from shore, the deeper it gets. This time of year, there will be fish throughout the river, so you just have to hunt them down.

Nice fish Doug. What was the water clarity like? Its been over a month since I've been on the river

Another thumbs way up for a Vex They are definately worth the investment.

I didn't confuse nuisance tags with the party tags. My point was, why do i get denied a tag, if the farmer down the road is gonna get 25 nuisance tags, that isn't right, considering the trend of the population decrease that I have seen over the past 10 years. Like mrhappy said about over in catt county where the farmer depleated his entire herd, thats bad news. I hope that is not happening near my camp, as there are a number of cattle farms.
-
Where are all these nuisance permits being issued, and to whom? In my area, which is 9P in Alleghany county, only 2 out of the 6 of us at my camp got doe tags this year. The other 4 were denied. Mrhappy, you make some very good points about killing does, but thats only part of the situation.

Hey Rich, good idea on the videos, that would be a good way to hear the calls too, plus one more thing to buy Thanks for the other ideas guys, especially that "Bark at the moon" site, that'll kill some time and help the learning curve.

Guys, it seems that the coyote population is getting rather large at my deer camp in the southern tier of western NY. You can hear them howl both day and night, and it seems as though the deer population is beginning to shrink. As such, we are going to start hunting them, but need to do some homework on tactics first. Any suggestions on how to or good sources for info?
-
Oh yes, there are a bunch of coyotes by my deer camp in west almond. Every time the neighbor's dog barks, the coyotes go nuts. The deer population also seems to be affected by it, as I am seeing less deer each year, and I cover a lot of ground. I was just down at my camp for 10 days the week of the gun opener, and only saw 4 deer, and that is hunting a number of different spots on both provate and state lands. We are gonna start hunting them as soon as deer season is over as their populations seems to be getting out of control

Very simple, more time on the water And maybe a copper set up.

Another option is to use Marine Tex which is basically an epoxy type of WATERPROOF sealant / adhesive that hardens. You work with it basically the same way you would work with bondo, but this stuff is made specifically for marine applications. It comes in both white and gray, available at West Marine, Boat US etc.

Tim, the mojo was my main concern with all the work and change that was done, sure am GLAD she still has her mojo You did a good job driving in those snotty conditions while I tended rods, trying not to fall out of the boat. The pics just don't do those waves any justice  -
Fished North of Olcott from 100 to 250 FOW before I asked Tim to turn and head back south as the offshore forecast was actually right, there were 3 - 5s and the oddball rogue wave out there. Took a few small salmon on spoons before the turn, then trolled back South to 100 FOW just out in front of Olcott and made a turn to the east and picked away at them with mostly green spin docs / green attomiks and green glow Js. Nice way to end the season. The fish were all very healthy looking and released except for one Coho that got too deeply hooked. Biggest fish was around 14 pounds.

Make sure to GET A SURVEY before buying any used boat. I have a 1989 Penn Yan 245 Contender and love it, the layout, how it handles, how it fishes etc..........

You want AS MUCH BACKING AS YOU CAN FIT on your cores / copper rigs. I was on Tim's boat this summer and his 10 Color rig took a hit from a freight train, that ran out just about all 300 yards of backing and was still going strong when the leader snapped. You just never know when a trophy will hit and you don't want to get spooled.

Tim, Thinking about trying for Sunday. Probably run out of Olcott as there is hardly any water at the launch at the Fort. I'll be in touch. -

Good report Tim, I see those old school lures still work. Nice to see a silver King, instead of all the brown ones running this time of year. You wouldn't have been alone out there if I could have rounded up a crew. After a summer off, my normal crew seems to have found other stuff to do on weekends besides fishing :? :? -

Hey Richard, Happy with the boat and how it turned out. No fishing this weekend though, just a cruise to make sure everything works. Dave, Excel Marine on Grand Island did the motor install / mechanical work and Riverside Marine in West Seneca did the glass work. Both shops did very good work, very good attention to detail. -

245 Contender No before & after pics, you wouldn't be able to tell just by looking at the boat, all new wood & glass inside the bilge and painted to match. Its definately much stronger and solid than the original design was. -
Finally, at the end of the season, my boat has returned after receiving a new transom, stringers, bulkhead and coupler after the coupler blew on Memorial Day. Now, where are the fish from the Bar to Olcott???? Want to head out one more time this year before winterizing it for the winter.

Thanks for the ideas guys. How did this turn into a "marriage thing" aka peanuts?????????
