  1. Depends on what you are waxing. On my aluminum river boat, I use plain old car wax. On my fiberglass Penn Yan, I use 3M premium marine wax which produces a much better, longer lasting shine. I guess when it comes to waxing fiberglass, the phrase "you get what you pay for" really applies. The 3M products are really impressive as far as end results and what they claim they can do. On the other hand, I would think that car wax would not hurt any boat, it just might not produce the best results.
  2. What a great way to learn other methods and how others catch fish
  3. Yes, I was out there, launched my boat out of Fort Niagara. Next time I'm in Wilson, if I see the boat, I'll stop by. Maybe see your crew at the Pro Am, I would assume you will be fishing it out of Wilson? I'll be on another boat out of Olcott for the ProAm.
  4. I saw you on Saturday a few times. On Sunday, I only saw the same 2 or 3 boats all day, much less traffic. If I see you again, I'll give ya a shout.
  5. Fished the Niagara Bar both Sat & Sun. Sat had a TON of boats on the Bar, nice weather, very mixed up fishing. Took fish on all different colors of spoons and flashers/flies, no pattern at all. Sunday was a little slower, little bit worse weather. Fish came on mixed veggie stinger, closet thing to a hawg wild i had, and chrome spin doctors/TG flies. Great weekend to be on the lake and burning dead dinosaur
  6. Hey Rich, I'll be around. What dates are you gonna be here? Chad, old school NK Mags and Pirates in silver/green and silver/yellow were firing.
  7. Rick, was that what you were weighing in this morning in Youngstown when I passed by and waved? Congrats!!
  8. Fished the Niagara Bar today in the rough for the first time this season. Hit a mix of Lakers, Steelies and Kings on Mag Spoons and Spin Doctors / Flies. Water temps ranged from 44 - 46 degrees from 15 - 40 feet down. Got the GF's cousin into his very first King, he was impressed with how hard they fight compared to bass Great to be back at it
  9. Heard on the radio this morning that they are going to start pulling it today.
  10. Anyone have a canoe they want to sell?? Looking for an aluminum one, but fiberglass would be ok. Thanks.
  11. There was a bunch of busted up ice chunks in the Upper Niagara River this morning. Probably came over the ice boom from Erie. It shouldn't be long now
  12. Fished the Niagara River this morning, tons of boats out. Water was 32 degrees, with no ice. Took a few steelies on kwikfish as the winds and current were working properly to drift them. Charters were hitting fish mostly on eggs from what I could see.
  13. The reason you are supposed to use 25W-40 Mercruiser oil in an I/O is that an I/O runs hard, its not like a car with a transmission where it shifts and the load is reduced through a gear reduction. The heavy oil keeps the motor properly lubed under stressful loads, such as when on plane. If you were to run 10W-30 in an I/O, you would experience a lot of lifter noise at higher RPM, at that point, the motor is at a higher stress rate and the oil just won't stand up to the pressure. When I had my boat in the shop this summer, my mechanic asked me what type of oil I ran, I said 25W-40 Mercruiser oil, his reply was great, don't run anything less. I guess it all comes down to spending a little more $$ now on maintenance, or a lot later.
  14. In my little boat, I run Mobil 1 10W-30 full synthetic. That is in a 40HP Mercury Four Stroke. I would think that your owner's manual would have some insight as to your oil weight requirements.
  15. I have fished on a friend's 24' Thompson many times, those high gunnels are very nice for both rigging and fighting fish. Haven't really been in rough water while on it, but the ride of that boat really impresses me. Make sure to get a survey, and if it passes, then grab that boat, you WILL NOT be disappointed with it.
  16. Fished the Niagara River this morning, water was 30 degrees, with no ice bergs, just a little skim ice here and there. Steelies wanted pink kwikfish, couldn't get any on egg sacs.
  17. That $50 limit is a pain, it basically defeats the purpose of having a "pay at the pump" when I need more than 15 gallons to fill my truck. This whole gas thing is just the "man" sticking it to ya.........
  18. Do you have your excess cable coiled up? If so, the interferance could be coming from the coil as the signal would be traveling in a circle fashion. Back some time, I was told to never coil excess transducer cable, but rather run it forward and back along itself so that the excess is running parellel to itself, and not in a circle. I hope that makes sense.
  19. I use Meguire's past wax, seems to do a pretty good job and produces a nice shine.
