  1. Very simple, more time on the water And maybe a copper set up.
  2. Another option is to use Marine Tex which is basically an epoxy type of WATERPROOF sealant / adhesive that hardens. You work with it basically the same way you would work with bondo, but this stuff is made specifically for marine applications. It comes in both white and gray, available at West Marine, Boat US etc.
  3. Tim, the mojo was my main concern with all the work and change that was done, sure am GLAD she still has her mojo You did a good job driving in those snotty conditions while I tended rods, trying not to fall out of the boat. The pics just don't do those waves any justice
  4. Fished North of Olcott from 100 to 250 FOW before I asked Tim to turn and head back south as the offshore forecast was actually right, there were 3 - 5s and the oddball rogue wave out there. Took a few small salmon on spoons before the turn, then trolled back South to 100 FOW just out in front of Olcott and made a turn to the east and picked away at them with mostly green spin docs / green attomiks and green glow Js. Nice way to end the season. The fish were all very healthy looking and released except for one Coho that got too deeply hooked. Biggest fish was around 14 pounds.
  5. Make sure to GET A SURVEY before buying any used boat. I have a 1989 Penn Yan 245 Contender and love it, the layout, how it handles, how it fishes etc..........
  6. You want AS MUCH BACKING AS YOU CAN FIT on your cores / copper rigs. I was on Tim's boat this summer and his 10 Color rig took a hit from a freight train, that ran out just about all 300 yards of backing and was still going strong when the leader snapped. You just never know when a trophy will hit and you don't want to get spooled.
  7. Hey Tim, how far out are the 27 - 29 lines in miles roughly?
  8. Tim, Thinking about trying for Sunday. Probably run out of Olcott as there is hardly any water at the launch at the Fort. I'll be in touch.
  9. Thanks Tim. It was a long summer waiting for this project to finish up.
  10. Good report Tim, I see those old school lures still work. Nice to see a silver King, instead of all the brown ones running this time of year. You wouldn't have been alone out there if I could have rounded up a crew. After a summer off, my normal crew seems to have found other stuff to do on weekends besides fishing :? :?
  11. Hey Richard, Happy with the boat and how it turned out. No fishing this weekend though, just a cruise to make sure everything works. Dave, Excel Marine on Grand Island did the motor install / mechanical work and Riverside Marine in West Seneca did the glass work. Both shops did very good work, very good attention to detail.
  12. 245 Contender No before & after pics, you wouldn't be able to tell just by looking at the boat, all new wood & glass inside the bilge and painted to match. Its definately much stronger and solid than the original design was.
  13. Finally, at the end of the season, my boat has returned after receiving a new transom, stringers, bulkhead and coupler after the coupler blew on Memorial Day. Now, where are the fish from the Bar to Olcott???? Want to head out one more time this year before winterizing it for the winter.
  14. Thanks for the ideas guys. How did this turn into a "marriage thing" aka peanuts?????????
  15. The counter is for repeatability only. If they say the fish are coming 70 down, that means they are reading that their equipment is running at 70 down, 70 of cable out. Fish your equipment in your zone so that you know where you are presenting your baits. Its generally better to fish too high as fish see upwards. I would rather be too high up in the water column than beneath the fish as the fish wouldn't see me baits that are below them.
  16. Another thing to remember is that it is better to have a full tank of gas with stabilizer added to it when going into storage. This is to avoid a bulk of air in the tank that would welcome and produce moisture from temp changes, and the inherent problems of water in gas.
  17. Thanks for the link Any tips on how to rig these things, how far behind the cowbells? Thanks
  18. After looking at the LOC leaderboards in the Laker category  it looks like cowbells / peanuts or cowbells / spin-n-glows seem to take a bunch of fish. The only Lakers I have caught while trolling have been taken off spoons, while fishing for Kings. Where does one get these cowbells, peanuts, spin-n-glows, and what is the proper way to rig them? Any thoughts or ideas would be appreciated.
  19. They will last about 10 trips  I know that as I used them before I spent the money on the better quality trolling bags that are built to withstand the constant pressure from trolling.
  20. "Our best rig was the familiar bite whole alewife on a familair bite chartreuse daisy chain" Hmmmmm, this seems a lot like cut bait
  21. Might want to put a post over on "the hull truth" as those guys are big fans of outboards. They should be able to answer those questions regarding specific model years and their issues, if any.
  22. I thought you only had to cut down the fin on the early production e chips that had the chip just glued on. The current e chips have the correct size fin on them, and the chip is in a holder, not just glued on. Thats what I have been told, or read somewhere.
  23. Sweet pics Rich, those memories will last a lifetime. Way to go on getting our furture fishermen going
