  1. Earliest I've ever been in.... I thought about going in last week. Glad I didn't... Hate shoveling snow out of the boat... Good luck this season!
  2. Not a bad shakedown. Browns... Check out the YouTube link for the report on what took fish today.
  3. Genesee River Pen rearing project update: Volunteers will be gathering Friday April 5th to get the pens in order and in the water...if you would like to help, the pens will be at the usual location at Shumway Marina at the far docks.. we will be meeting that day at roughly 3pm. There will be 138k young Chinook Salmon delivered to these pens on April 9.... Any additional information will be updated....
  4. These are the newer models ( Blue) . They have Torpedo wire on them for running divers... I've only used these reels a few times and I've decided to go the Diawa route. Disclaimer .. the clicker went on one of these reels after using it half a season. I sent both the reels in, with a batch of older reels to get repaired. Brian at Rochester Reel Repair squared both reels away and they are in perfect working condition... The price is firm $400.00 for both. Buyer pays shipping.... Can be picked up in Rochester...
  5. Bill .... Having those Fisher around is not necessarily a good thing... Especially for Turkey population. Those buggers eat a lot of young turkeys. I hunt in PA. The property owner said the Fisher population increased one year . Same year he saw zero turkeys ( normally saw large flocks). I agree they are cool animals, just killing machines....
  6. Here comes a confession..... I went on a bird watching forum on Facebook... Used my name, but I would watch the reports of the birdwatchers about all the sea ducks they would see miles offshore with their spotting scopes.... Once the species that I wanted to hunt started showing up in their surveys, I'd head out offshore, drift a line of Scoter blocks and have a great day ... The people finally figured out what was happening and they stopped posting waterfowl sightings... Was it illegal? ... Nope... Not at all..... Was I a d!Ck for using their information? Maybe.... But sometimes it pays off to be resourceful. Now these guys using the Internet to poach... That's no bueno... And that fine they got is laughable...
  7. Could have entered the Kentucky Derby with that sucker .. nice job Bill
  8. For a dozen block set ups.... I'd set six on one end of the boat and six on the other .. pocket in middle could work .. I anchor my decoys with window weights... Couple of big ones on one end if it's rolly.. I also use a couple car rotors on one end if I run my supermag battleship decoys.. as far as anchoring the boat,. Depends how big the boat is... I used a Danforth anchor used on a 30 ft boat .. ..
  9. Thanks Bill..... I have done both.... Drifted out in 200 feet of water and anchored. If you want true decoying birds, then I would anchor .... If your running a dog, you should anchor both ends of your long line and run 2-2.5 ft droppers from your blocks. No dog, anchor one end .. positioning the boat can be tricky .. if it's dead flat, the birds might be a little squirrel, but as a general rule they are pretty dumb when It comes to the boat. I usually anchor parallel to the long lines... I usually anchor from the stern ( if it's calm) and do the shooting from the bow.... The trick to coming off anchor.... Let out enough anchor rode until your where you want... Tie a loop in your anchor line and put it around the cleat... On or near the end of the anchor line, attach a fender...once you shoot a bird, take the loop off the cleat, toss it overboard with the fender attached .. once you get the bird, come back, hook the fender, and then put the loop back on the cleat... Should be in the same position if your anchor is holding .. Shooting sea ducks is fun .. just wish I found a way to cook em... Best of luck to you...
  10. I have Chinook rudders on my 31 Baha .. fantastic! Boat's trolling and On plane performance is night and day from the stock rudders. Another guy in my Marina has them on a 31 Tiara... I know he loves them as well
  11. Just want to put a post up regarding some Muskie Trolling baits I just picked up. Holy cow! Cullen over at Muskie Candies customs makes some unbelievable baits. I've caught fish on the nightstalker bait, but decided to drop the hammer on a few more. Outstanding paint jobs, great action, and proven fish takers. If your serious about chasing the giants, look up Muskie Candies Customs.
  12. Run north until you see bait.... some days it's in 450... other days it's in 600+. Don't fish temperature. . Fish the marks ..
  13. Whenever I have trips, I keep a sharp eye on the forecasts. The only site that had it remotely right was windfinder. Left port at 0'dark 30 and it was nice and calm so offshore we go. About 3/4 the way out to the Salmon superhighway, the wind ripped up out of the NE. I knew we were in for a rough day. I set up and trolled south west ( with them ) and started a pick on 2 year olds. Not fast and furious, but a decent chew. Magnum Carbon 14... Magnum Silver Carbon... Magnum raspberry carbon ,( comment theme here). My riggers were more productive than my junk lines. Like I said, it wasn't a massacre by any means, but we got our bites. The fish I cleaned were loaded with medium and larger alewifes...
  14. Haven't posted many reports as of lately. Burning the candle at both ends is killing me. The past three days I've spent my time offshore. I absolutely despise fishing inside for stagers and will only do it when I have to. I ran north until I started marking bait... Dropped the rigs down to the bait ( temp doesn't mean a whole lot). Magnum Carbon 14 silver ladder back on my deep rigger, standard silver carbon on the mid rigger, standard Shelly snack on the high rigger. Divers had mag bad toad and custom Die hard. All moonshines. 400 copper with mag geezer. Friday night was very good chew. . Went back Saturday to same lat and long lines only to be greeted with negative fish. Ground out a box but it was a pick at best Sunday was a different story.Stopped a click or two south of my waypoints and settled in. Pretty good chew... Same spoons were producing. Everyone preaches Meat meat meat... Not necessary in my opinion. Yes it does work, but I'm a spoon guy and I go with what I have confidence in. Don't be afraid to bump up the speed and run smaller spoons . The bait isn't necessarily all big out there. Stomach contents confirmed my suspicion Good luck to all fisherman ( stream, pier and lake).
  15. 100%solid information from Scott and Rick. There are only a handful of full time guys on the lake. It's a tough thing burning the candle at both ends. The more hours you put on your rig the more maintenance it needs. I'll pm you my number . Feel free to reach out anytime..
  16. I completely understand.... I tell my wife I want a viking funeral and she's to use my rig...lol....
  17. It was in the lake outside of Chaumont....not up there now... Thanks
