Ok.....My go to Steelie spoons are the Honey Bees (red/whites). Old school spoons still produce for me....Ive started to really like the DWSS Acid Rain. Been very good in recent years. As far as Lakers......If Im running to target just lakers...cowbells and spin and glows ( very rare I do). If I think there might be some Kings laying around on the bottom, I will run a white echip with a mirage fly. Lakers chow those set ups wicked! I have caught way more kings on paddle flies than bells and spin glows. Spring browns and steel ? I run Stick baits and smaller spoons.....Depending on the water color, is what colors I run.....If I'm out on a big temp break, or a mudline, there might be some cohos around. I will put out a couple small red spin docs with coho flies.....I don't really like running too much hardware in skinny water....more of a stealth presentation....I'm sure you will get some more great suggestions. There are a lot of good fisherman on this site. ......Tight lines

I have to say that the powder mills hatchery would be an excellent choice.....I'm sure that if this were to happen, the donation of money and volunteers would increase big time.........if the fishermen self funded a say ....5 year trial...I would be behind that 100%

Yesterday we attempted to do some boat hunting....black ice, snow storms, blown hydraulic lines....sweet start....we ended up at our little honey hole by noon and hunted till dark....nice mix I thought today would be much of the same, but the only birds that would finish were red heads ( I am not complaining one bit). We were selective and only shot one drake out of each flock....very low key.... All in all, I am pleased with the season. We shot some great table fare birds as well as some true trophies. Hard work, hard hardheadedness, and maybe a little stupidity definitely came into play....guys be safe out there tomorrow and choot em in the lips!......Matt Sent from my VS920 4G using Lake Ontario United mobile app

Today was kind of a hail Mary....we went to an unscouted area and in fact I've never been on this lake before. The morning flight was non existent, but we stuck it out and from 1130 to 1330 was decent...Blue Bills, Gadwalls, Mallards, a black, and a couple of Geese....Blue bird day with no wind hurt. All in all we had a lot of laughs, shot a few, missed a few....

Sent from my VS920 4G using Lake Ontario United mobile app

Its that time of the year for sure. The trophies are out there for sure. I'm heading to a new to me spot today....I have no expectations other than to have some laughs with good friends. If we shoot a bird or two.....Bonus.....thanks for all the kind words guys. Most people see ducks as just that...ducks. But true water fowlers can appreciate the beauty and the hard work it takes to hunt them....

Sent from my VS920 4G using Lake Ontario United mobile app

Kevin....it was a nut buster of a day....I had an iceberg sneak up on me while I was messing with the decoys. Freaking thing swept me off my feet and darn near deep sixed me. The old Tried Barta saying "do the work" comes to mind. Lol....Sometimes being stupid and stubborn pays off.Lol....

Sent from my VS920 4G using Lake Ontario United mobile app

Hunted some extreme conditions with iced up decoys, frozen equipment and borderline frostbite. Talk about a mixed bag! Redheads, Blue Bills, Mallards, a Golden Eye, a Buffle head, Sky Carp ( Canada Goose) and a bonus Banded Black duck. I will be thawing out my gear for days after this hunt. Be safe out there die hards!

Sent from my VS920 4G using Lake Ontario United mobile app

Today we battled big wind, ice, and nasty waves...if it was balmy and 60 degrees it wouldn't be Western NY duck hunting. Along with bills, cans, and a Red Head, we took a few popcorn ducks. Would have been one of those days, but we got iced out. On to plan B after this Deep freeze....careful out there guys!

Sent from my VS920 4G using Lake Ontario United mobile app

Salt water soak till blood is out. Cut off all the fat..cut em into fingers...I marinate em in soy or teriyaki ...bread in panko and then cook em in a little oil.....not all divers can be done this way....Cans, redheads are the best. Bills are pretty good too.....whistlers, buffies, and sea ducks get ground up for sausage or saved for dog training......

Sent from my VS920 4G using Lake Ontario United mobile app
