Scott and the boys....Great time last year, and the fishing was smoking. Already making plans for this year.....Anyone who is on the fence about fishing this event your really look hard at it.....No theatrics or chest pounding that can happen in the bigger tourneys. Glad that you guys are getting the word out so early, and I hope that you guys keep it a Sandy Creek only tournament. I certainly don't mind running the rig down for the weekend........Keep us posted on developments

Chowder.....I do like the heavy metal rounds....3 inchers are plenty for honkers...As far as Kents, Ive been using them for a long time...I really like the 3 1/2 inch 2 for divers and BB for sky carp. As afr as chokes, I would seriously look at the pattermaster However you cant shoot BC out of it....Its is a little more money, but man does it keep the shot nice and tight. I tried the carlson as well. Not really impressed..... I did alot of shooting different shot and chokes before my Alaska trip. The PM with Heavy metal was the best out of my gun.

Depends on the situation for me....Kinds of birds, and what time of the season...... In the earlier part of the season for Mallards over decoys I use the I/C tube....For late season divers over decoys I tend to get a little tighter...say a Mod.... This past December/January I tested the pattermaster long range...Holy cow does that thing hold a pattern. I was hunting King Eiders, Scoters, and other sea ducks. I wanted a tighter pattern to make sure I had fewer cripples and when I did have to crack a cripple on the water, there was no question he was down. I am going to try the patternmaster a little more next year out on the big lake for Scoters and Squaws....By the way, that Hevi Metal is real nasty on birds......

Bruce...be glad I didn't take your case...Continental/United destroyed the one I brought....idiots......If I saw one bird, I saw 5 thousand...it was unbelievable.....Scoter mania... OldSquaws were a dime a dozen...There were a pile of nice Drake kings around. Our problem was the severe snow storms with 60 mph winds..... St. Paul Harbor was just about completely frozen....Tons of Sea Lions , Seals, and even a pod of killer whales.....Arctic Fox are like stray cats ......The Natives were very friendly and some of the most hard core people I've ever met..... That place is absolutely an extreme hunt......Anyone who is serious about going, please contact me....I have a ton of useful advice to make your trip as smooth as possible....

Thanks guys ....what an adventure....to hunt the Bearing sea...seemed surreal to me..heck I still don't believe it...there is something about that place that keeps calling my name....I will return someday to feel the chill of the wind and the salt water in my face.....

This past week or so I've had the privilege to hunt with Captains Moe Neale and Jeff Wasley of Alaskan Eider Outfitters...I am practically speechless as to the experience I had...The hunting was excellent, the lodging was warm and comfortable, and the food was second to none. They say that going to St. Paul is a "religious" experience...I know now what they mean...Since Ive stepped foot off the plane in Rochester on Thursday evening, the Bearing Sea and the King Eider have been calling me.....I will be back! thank you captains Moe, Jeff, Guide Dustin and Michele...I will never forget this trip

Matt..........If I go after Scoters, I usually anchor long lines with very long droppers to heavy weights......doubled up window sash weights or big coffee cans with cement.....then anchor off the boat upwind 20 yards......should be good enough...the divers are real spooky and will not decoy very good to a boat, unless you use a open water layout ......good luck

Sounds to me like you guys will have to break out the swamp hunting gear...I haven't heard of any outstanding reports. In fact just the opposite. I am out of town for just about the entire western split......I am duck hunting though . I will post up a detailed report when I get back...........

Hunted Niagara county today and it sucked.....A few Bufflehead and that was it. The other day we put a hurting on the White wings and Squaws.....the offshore hunts have been relatively consistent this year....

I had some issues last year with Winchester 209 primers. I shoot a Savage ML2 and I use IMR stick rifle powder....I noticed that the gun did not like Winchester primers. I went to Federals and I have never had any misfires since.... I notice when I shot the primer only, a load of sparks shot out of the barrel. With winchesters it did not. Federals seem to burn hoter. not sure if that helped....good luck with smoke pole season.

But being as this is the .44 magnum....uuuuhhh......460 magnum the most powerful handgun in the world, and would blow your head clean off, you've got to ask yourself one question.....do I feel lucky? Well do you pu........doe? lol the hand cannon will be my next venture .....I already fell in love with my savage ml2 muzzleloader....nice donkey Steve....

Grifter...the key is watching the flight line....one you located the line they like then the work starts. I anchor two lines of scoters and one line of squaws. I have found that squaws are pretty species specific. I usually put the scoters on one side and squaws on the other. I like to try to anchor the boat 30 yrds from farthest decoy. You know Lund, we don't shoot over thirty yards just because of that reason.....those freakin scoters can hold their breaths for 75 yrds.....last week we chased a cripple for half hour and 8 shots later we got him. The thing that sucks is , you have to make every reasonable effort to retrieve a cripple, but the DEC won't let you motor up on one and dispatch him quickly. I'm pretty strict that all guns are unloaded and we will only shoot when the boat stops it's forward motion and the motor is off. By they those birds are usually under and swimming for Canada... On a side note....Capt. Lucas was out with the new lake shore fire rescue vessel.....Boston whaler looked sweet....thanks for stopping by guys.....

Took out my buddies to the inside 40 ft area. Set up my usual spread, Squaws and Scoter....What a difference a few days are.....There was very little flying except the massive waves of migrating red Breasted Mergansers....If we were shooting Lawn darts , it would have been a slaughter. Saw very few Oldsquaws and only a few flocks of Scoters. We dumped a whole flock of 4 and two got away utilizing their Michael Phelps impression.....Great day on the lake.......Cold weather any day now! Shoot em in the fatch!

That's what I'm talking about! Good job on the drakes...... I was just commenting to a buddy of mine about how tough some of those sea ducks really are......I swear they have on flack jackets. Great job man, and those are some beauty drakes..... Headed out this am.....hope the birds cooperate

SS.....that is a hen can.....I admit I shot a hen, we normally hold off for the bulls, but it was the last day of the first season. Two of my buddies are Lawn Dart shooting fools.....hence the pile of commons mergs. The drakes are neat though...... Sweet Golden bro....your exactly right about them being overlooked. They have great temperments too. Congrats on the new hunting partner...

After deer season...take a road kill and stake it down in an area you can watch from...go out a half hour before sunset and stay about two hours after that.....Time to start eradicating some of those vermin...... I absolutely HATE coyotes..... Lots of fun when the #4 buck smashes them......Good luck and glad you found the rack.......
