  1. I ran 65 lb. PP yesterday and the fleas werent too bad at all. I had flea ficker on another and that was even better. Almost none on that. Couple days ago I had mono on a downrigger line and couldnt even reel it all the way in they were so thick.
  2. 100% catch, photo and release for me for everything including trophies. I can do a graphite reproduction if wanted.
  3. Today I had a frustrating experience with 2 scotty rod holders. Everytime I put a dipsey rod in 1 after a short while the rod holder popped out of the holder.Must of done it 10 times on 2 different ones. OK so what does work for rod holders if scottys dont. I was lucky I didnt lose any rods. Has anyone else had this problem? Lucky I caught 2 nice kings to over shadow it just a bit at Sandy. What works for dipsey rods.?????Thanks BP
  4. Should a wire dipsey rod be a "meatstick" or have some play in it? I ordered a 8' 6" trolling rod (TXS) telescoping from cabelas that was rated 10-30 lb line in the catolog but when I got it it was 10-20 lb rated. Has some flex to it. It was rated as a trolling/planer rod. Does this sound like it will work for wire? Im planning on putting a twili tip on it, 30 lb malin camo wire. ?????? Oh so many questions...... BP
  5. I just bought a couple R & R spoons and I notice they dont use a split ring to the main line. Do you guys add a split ring or do they work without one? Im used to always having a split ring on my spoons. What do ya think? BP
  6. Thanks for the help guys. I will give it a try. Just ordered a new wire rig from Cabelas.
  7. Are you saying you got 200 tigers out of those adirondak lakes? or 200 tigers anywhere for that matter would be pretty tough to do. nice going if you have. BP
  8. One of these days Im gonna figure this out. On another post I read :using wire and dipseys , the dipsey would dive 1' for every 3' of line let out on #2 setting. I am assuming this is using a #1 Dipsey? I cant seem to get a straight answer on this. With or without the ring?????? Doing the math 100' out gets you 33' of depth.(#2 setting) Ok till I looked at the chart Luhr Jensen gives you. According to that 102 feet out with the ring gets you 45' with 20 lb mono(#2 setting). Why would it go deeper with mono than wire? Something is not adding up. Is it true every 3' out with wire gets you 1' of depth with #2 setting? with ring or without? and #1 dipsey? Help. You guys are the best. ??????????????????Thanks in advance BP
  9. I didnt know there were tigers in those lakes. Even if there were, there cant be many. Most studies by the DEC have showed the stockings of Tigers to be a failure statewide (and nationally) with the exception of a few lakes like Conesus, Canadarago, etc. You need real muskies to produce those naturally and there are no natural muskies there that Im aware of. Most likely Pike and a few Tigers hammering the salmon. Wish the Tigers took hold better but for some reason they dont survive very well. BP
  10. Are the dipseys mentioned here the #1 (4 1/8" diameter) size ? Can anyone tell me how deep a diver would go with the same 240' out but on the #3 setting? Thanks BP
  11. Thats highly doubtful there are any muskies in those adirondak lakes. Any predators would be most likely Pike. BP
  12. Legacy did the flea flicker line actually do its job? any fleas at all and what lb test.? Thanks BP
  13. Does 1 color wire -coffee or silver work better than another? Im looking at the Malin but it comes in both colors. Im leaning towards coffee. Thanks BP
  14. My problem is nobody makes a reel big enough even without the counter for Leftys. size 30 is as big as there is (Penn, Cabelas, Okuma). for left handed. Any tackle manufacturers listening?
  15. What is your favorite dipsy color for trout/salmon? Do the conditions determine what color you use? Is size 0 (smaller) or #1 (4 1/8" diameter) preferred? Thanks BP
  16. c star, whats the difference between copper and ss wire? Im working on putting together a wire rig. Nobody makes a left hand line counter big enough for 10 colors and 250 yards of backing so a lead core might be out. Thanks BP
  17. So basically you need an ocean size reel to hold 10 colors and 250 yards of backing. My Penn 321 is no where near big enough. Some of the reels mentioned in previous posts are gigantic. Thats a tough pill to swallow for a ultra light specialist like myself. I may ditch the whole lead core idea. Thanks for your replys. BP
  18. Gambler or anyone else who uses leadcore, What reel are you getting 10 colors on with 40 lb powerpro backing? I just tried to get 300 feet of 65 lb powerpro( 16 lb diameter I use for muskies ) and I could only get 4 colors on. Back to the drawing board. Im trying to put it on a Penn321. This is starting to tick me off, I cant seem to get it right. How much backing is necessary with 10 colors? Am I out of whack thinking I need 300 feet of backing? That would be 600 feet total. Thanks BP
  19. What is a good length rod for using wire? Is it ok to just change the tip to a twilli or is a roller rod better? Thanks BP
  20. How long a leader (flourocarbon I assume?) are you running off the wire? Also how long off lead core too? Thanks BP
  21. Are trout/Salmon affected by cold fronts as much as Bass/walleye/musky, and other warm water species? Its well documented how bass, etc are negatively affected. Im wondering what affect it has on trout/salmon that are down 70 feet deep or deeper. ??????? Thanks BP
  22. You are right about the deeper water in a little closer at the oak than Sandy. I experienced both in the last week and 100 feet was definitely closer at the oak than Sandy.
  23. Was at Gander last night and the only brand wire line they had was Optitackle in brown camo color. Anyone here use this stuff? They dont sell the Malin. Also what is the difference between wire line and copper line? Thanks guys for your help on this. BP
  24. The only problem I have is I need a left handed line counter and Okuma and Cabelas are the only game in town. Daiwa or Shimano does not make them.
  25. Does a reel for wire have to have a metal spool or will a graphite spool be ok??????. Im planning on using a left handed line counter by Okuma but it has a graphite spool. I wish the tekota was left handed. Only 2 lefty line counters to choose from. shoot. BP (The Okuma convector is very nice though) Anyone here used a Okuma Magna? (in general not just wire?) Thanks BP
