  1. Yeah I sort of figured that out but it doesnt make sense why a fish wouldnt hit it if its down 40 feet. There is a 8 foot leader or so and it cant spook them anymore than various flashers, etc. would but the proofs in the pudding for me. Have any of you guys ever caught anything on one or does anyone even use them?
  2. Yes but they only make it in 30 lb anchor rope.
  3. I wouldnt doubt that. St Lawrence goes to the ocean and they have been know to be in freshwater from time to time. I hear shark rumors in the lake every 5-10 years it seems. More likely though is a huge musky bit that salmon in half. It happens all the time when guys are bringing in bass and walleye. 10 lbs isnt squat for a big musky to hit.
  4. Does Cortland or anyone else make flea ficker line anymore? I heard it was not made anymore but it always worked very well for me. Any other recommendations appreciated as well for Lake O. I dont want anything over 20 lb. test either. Thanks much. BP
  5. Maybe it's me but every time I use a jet diver (to 40 feet) for trout and salmon, they never work. Does anyone here have any luck with these things? I have tried different depth models and different colors but they just never work. Anyone?.
  6. Big Jon calls for a buss bar but makes no mention of fuses as there is a built in circuit breaker on the sportsman model, I got the blue water 2701 buss bar (100 amp and up to 48 volt) on ebay for 10 bucks. 2 rows of 5 screws each. Hope that will work. Thanks guys.
  7. I am trying to rig 2 big jon electric downriggers on my boat. They recommend a buss bar between battery and riggers, Is a buss bar a fuse also or do I need a fuse in addition to it.? They never said I needed both, What is the purpose of a buss bar or is it just for convenience? Im just wondering if there is any type of fuse built in it. The other thing is nobody local has them. Ive tried every autoparts store, gander, and marina and nobody carries them. I guess I will have to order online. Thanks.

    I Bay Perch

Went there on Friday. It was dismal compared to years past. Got maybe a dozen. The fish just didnt seem to be around. The guy at the bait shop said the ice season was the worst ever for perch. Im wondering if it is too early or water too cold 43 or what the heck happened. Maybe it was me. Has anyone done anything with perch this spring? (there was 2 whole boats fishing for them on Friday, that tells me something). Maybe its too early.?? Any good reports from I bay?
  9. Was wondering if the launch is open and if there is enough open water to perch fish? Or is it still half covered with ice? Thanks BP
  10. What year is it? Can u send me a pic? Sent from my GT-P5113 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  11. Went to the Niagara today, gorgeous November day, full moon, falling barometer, nice temps, thought all the stars were aligned except I was worried about the water clarity. I was right vis was 6", 9" at best. No surprise after all the small craft advisories lately. Looked like chocolate milk, literally. Needless to say no hits today or rarely ever with the vis that bad. Now the question I have. Why do muskies hit at night but not when its mud? If they are relying on vibration at night then it shouldnt matter in the mud....right? wrong. It leads me to believe that maybe it is actually their night vision that makes them hit at night like a walleye and not so much the vibration. Then again just when you think you have everything figured out its back to square one. Thats fishin. Has anyone here ever done well in the mud with less than 1 foot vis?
  12. Great story with your Dad. Treasure the moment. Also good job releasing the fish. I bet that fish was 15-20 yrs old. Congrats!

    Seneca perch

My 2 cents. Been fishing avidly over 50 years and about 30 years on Seneca mostly in spring. I have told others that Seneca Perch fishing is the toughest fishing I do all year and that includes Musky fishing into December. Those Perch are a breed of their own, so wary and so spooky. I dont know of any other fish anywhere as spooky. Ive had my 100+ fish days and also got skunked many times. It really is hit or miss no matter who you are. I dont use anything over 2 lb test now since the water is so clear, long anchor ropes help too. Ultra quiet is a must and yes I have had other boats ruin my spots several times coming closer than a cast. It makes fishing Ibay like fishing in a swimming pool. Totally different breed, much easier. It kills me to hear of guys abusing the fishery by filling coolers up. The DEC is trying to ban the market fishing concept but was getting resistance from the North Country poachers so they caved. No surprise there. I go as far as releasing the little ones and dont keep anything under 10 inches or so. Long live Seneca.
  14. Dude, It's a no brainer. Larry is the man on the river or harbor. No one person has helped more musky fisherman in this area and he knows his stuff. Go for it. BP
  15. Just trying to get a feel if the smallmouth are bouncing back any? Anybody getting any at all in the lake near Wautoma, Sandy or Braddocks? Any signs of hope or is the collapse total? I have tried a few times without much luck this year. I used to pound them but its like fishing in a bath tub now. Im not buying into the gobie theory as St lawrence, Erie, St Clair all have them and the fishing is great there. Unless there are small ones present, the future looks bleak in this area of the lake.
  16. Looks like a pure Pickerel to me too. Nice one though. Panfisher if you got a 32" pickerel it would weigh 7-9 lbs unless that was a typo, BTW Most 5-6 lb pickerel are 26-28" or so and they are excellent fighters and very under rated by many. I like them alot on light tackle.
  17. Nice work Joe. St Lawrence muskies are the nicest looking muskies on the planet. Muskies are cool looking everywhere but that strain just seems spectacular with the stripes, dots, tigerish appearance. The biggest are there too. Well done.
  18. I heard that the DEC was at least doing something like oiling the eggs but Canada was not allowing anything on their end towards Cormorants. Not positive on that but thats what I heard and read 2 yrs ago. If I remember most of the nesting sites were in Canadian water too.
  19. I think Cormorants have alot to do with it on Lake O. The Lake Erie- Lake O goby connection is not adding up, not affecting at Erie but affecting Lake O. Not sure what is to blame then. Hmmmm???
  20. "A lure " has a good point. Erie has the Gobies too and they still have excellent Bass. Maybe the cormorants have something to do with it plus there was a huge die off several years back. I remember at Sodus there were dead bass everywhere but that was from an upwelling of cold water or possibly VHS. It sucks though. I miss my smallys. I remember a few times about 7-8 yrs ago I went to Sodus by myself and got over 100 in a day but the ones now are definitely bigger. Hope it turns around quick but with so many gobies and invasive s who knows if those days will ever return.
  21. Any other Smallmouth reports from Sandy to Wautoma?
  22. The closest thing I can come up with is a Reaper. This looks like a cross between that and a Twister.
  23. You do what you want. Your $29 bucks entitles you to kill what you have to (if you say so). I will do what I want (release the big girls so you have Walleye to catch a few years from now.) The Canadians do have the right idea with their conservation license which allows you to fish for them and keep only a limited amount. Whatever pal.
  24. I have been fishing 51 years avidly. I have seen the trends go from catch and keep (that was the norm in the 60s, 70s and most of the 80s to catch and release in the 90s and 2000s, now I think the trend is going backwards towards catch and kill. The exceptions are for Muskies. In the North country of NY, it is all catch and kill like the dark ages. I see it all the time. Is there anyone out there who just enjoys the fight, the sport, a light tackle challenge, personal bests, catch, photo, and release, graphite reproductions??? Or is it all selfish catch and kill and dont care about the fishery and future generations? I just heard about a small lake North of Watertown where the DEC caught some guys red handed at night with gill nets. So selfish.........
